I presume are asking me what is my favorite song the Andre & the JSO plays.

    That would have to be:
Carmen, singing "O Mia Babino Caro" in Tuscany

This was the song that captured me as an Andre, JSO fan

My favorite song of all is "America the Beautiful", one I hope he includes in a concert one of these days

Bill, too bad you weren't an Andre fan a couple years ago. He played "America the Beautiful" as an encore in Chicago in 2004. Not a dry eye in the venue.

Suzie, was Andre's rendition strictly instrumental, or was there some vocals singing the words.

If so, who was singing the words. If it was 2004, then it could possible include Carmen, Carla & the choir. Help me out.

        My 2nd most favorite is:
        Adieu, mein kleiner Gardeoffizier
which is part of the DVD, "New Years Eve in Vienna, #9 sound track on the DVD. This DVD contains my favorite rendition of "Funiculi Funicula", #7 soundtrack; there are 6 interruptions from the Trumpet section instead of only 4.

My 3rd favorite is on the "Flying Dutchman" DVD, "It's a Child's World"

There were no soloists singing. The choir may have been "ahhhh-ing" along, I don't remember.

in case anyone cares, my favorites are on the musik zum traumen tape, one by mozart and the other, "Serenade", and why? because I like classical music.

My absolute favorite is the Lagune Waltz. The first time I heard it was at the Chicago concert in 2004. I have always loved classical music and when they started playing that piece, I couldn't believe I had never heard it before. I mentioned to my mom, several times while they were playing it, what a beautiful song it was. When we returned home to California, I went on his website looking for it. There it was, on one of the two DVD's called Romantic Paradise. Of course I bought it. Now I could listen to it but what I really wanted was to be able to watch Andre play it again. When Live in Tuscany came out, I was so excited because it was on that DVD. I was disappointed though, because the camera cut away from Andre & the JSO and showed them in a gondola in Venice! But lo and behold, the Sylvester Punsch DVD came out and there it was again! No cutting away from Andre & the JSO this time! Fantastic!

Hi Suzie: Oh Gosh Yes, that is a beautiful song. I love the richness of it as the JSO plays. So happy, and I can see people dancing even if only in my mind. How I'd love to be in a big old dance hall and waltz as Andre and his JSO play the Lagune Waltz. Fancy ball gown and all the gentlemen in tails. Ahhhhh Heavenly.

Ode to Joy, written by Friedrich von Schiller and composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. The music is powerful and the words unite the whole world.

Hello Hermina: Thank you for reminding me to listen to the old Masters again.

Doesn't Ode to Joy make one think of how little the world has changed all these years. Beethoven and von Schiller sought Brotherhood and Peace with music.   Andre Rieu carries on the fine tradition.

       If only everyone listened......

My favorite song? I just heard it in Songs from my Heart. THE TOSELLI SERENADE Why? For its soothing, relaxing, quiet mood. Andre plays it with his eyes closed, and I can hear his violin singing as sweetly as the Nightingale. The orchestra seems to be all strings--beautiful! The violin was my attraction to Andre and the JSO. He plays the Serenade in another DVD when a bird is released from its cage. Which DVD? Cant remember. Help, please, and listen to it again. You'll see why it is my choice. Sally, I think some time back you said that you liked the song with the Nightingale. This one?

      Hello Audrey:

I love the Nightingale on SERENADE.  My birds, Zorro, Annie, Betsy Boy & BabyZ sing with the Nightingale whenever they hear the song.  It is so cute to watch.

I also enjoy the piano on this song. I wish I could play piano like that. (I'm still working on mastering chop-sticks)

My favorite song??? Song, as in the singular, meaning only ONE? Give me a break, WebmasterSally, help me out here, and make things a little easier for me. How about my favorite waltz, polka, AND march. No sense in stopping there, why not my favorite vocal numbers, both straight and novelty?

OK boys and girls, here goes. My absolute, all time favorite song performed by André Rieu and the JSO has to be the Thunder and Lightning polka. Runners-up, in no particular order would have to include the Perpetual Motion Waltz, the Radetzky March, O Mio Babbino Caro sung by Carmen Monarcha, and Carla Maffioletti as the puppet singing Song of Olympia. What is it about these songs that I like so much? It just so happens that with the exception of Perpetual Motion all of the songs mentioned are performed on the Live In Dublin program, which happened to be my first exposure to André and the JSO. First impressions are likely to be the most lasting and most remembered impressions, and so it was for me and the Live In Dublin DVD. I didn’t actually see the program as I was driving at the time and it was playing on my portable DVD player, but I remember that after about 45 minutes of listening I was hooked. Later, when I actually got to watch the DVD, the joy and pleasure was enhanced by seeing André, the JSO, and the audience interacting and apparently having the times of their lives – and so was I.

Had my first exposure to André and the JSO been another DVD or CD in a different circumstance then, who knows what my favorites might be. The important thing, however, is that I was exposed to André and the JSO and my life has been changed for the better because of it. Thank you André

I think I now have another "favorite".Listening to the new cd,"Songs From My Heart,

"My Father's Favorite", (I've seen the movie,Sense& Sensibility,) but never have I heard that piece played with such feeling and beauty.Got to add that to my favorites!

I agree. This piece of music has never been played so good as by André. I have the DVD Songs From My Heart with a more than beautiful clip "My Father's Favorite". I can stop watching this clip. The members of the JSO are in seventeens century dresses, with siver colored wigs. This music composed by Patric Doyle is so sweet, so beautiful, that some listeners could get tears in their eyes.

Well, to name one, and one only favorite song by Andre Rieu?? Not possible. The closest I can come to a favorite song would be the song that...at this moment...really gets to me is "Romance for Clara". There is something about that song that I love so very much. I have to be careful driving while listening to this one, my mind focuses on the song and not my driving skills. But please understand, that there are many many favorites. It's impossible to name just one. The cd's "Romantic Paradise", "Musik Zum Trauman", "Dreaming", "Love Around the World", "La Vie Est Belle", are loaded with favorites, so are the rest of the 47 cd's that I have of Andre Rieu's. So many to listen to, so little time! So many favorites to name, so little space!

yes, Marlene, it is hard to pick just one. Like a Lays potato chip, "nobody can have just one"! sometimes I think it depends on my mood at the time, sometimes I want to smile and dance & other times I just want to relax & dream.

Lays potato chips...yes, well... about moods, I have many moods when it comes to Andre's music. It's almost like every song he plays sets me into a different mood. I think it's the heart and soul in which he plays that determines a particular mood, for me. Wow...those expressions of his...and then, sometimes I just like to listen to a good old fashioned melacholic song that makes me dream of other times, and sometimes makes me cry. Whatever the song, they affect me differently. That's why it's hard to choose just one. But, I still think that "Romance for Clara"...well, you'd have to go far to beat that one. Course, that's my mood at the moment!

I was finally able to check out that link you mentioned Shirley. I have never been a lover of rap by a long shot, however...watching Andre was an experience for me that was absolutely priceless!! Class will win out every single time and it took Andre Rieu to bring "rap" to a Classical level. My goodness how I enjoyed seeing him do that. He is incredible!!! As we all know. Thanks for telling me about it, it was thoroughly enjoyable!

This has been a weekend for me to be introspective. I almost let evil get me to join them. Via good friends and nice people I have overcome the urge to join the fray. What did I listen to? "The Holy City" and "Mary's Boy Child".

Yes, some may call it Christmas music, but I just call it majestic.

Thank you Friends and Thanks to the music. I have let the evil go, and good remains alive.

Wanted to comment on those two songs Sally...they are songs that will certainly drive any evil away. "Mary's Boy Child" is one of the songs that I have burned on a cd and listen to all year. When I hear Andre play this, then I cannot believe that any wrongs could be possible...Imagine...the whole world feeling the same way? I don't call it Christmas music either. It's music for the soul.

My favorite song? Like everyone else, there are many, but my all time favorite is "The second waltz".
I came in contact with Andre and his orchestra in 1995 when I visited Holland, (my birth country). He (Andre) was doing a TV special and this song came up. Absolutely beautiful.
I raced out the next day and bought the CD "Strauss & Co" I think it was his first CD ever. No DVD' in those days. Anyway, I may have been the first person in Australia to own a Andre Rieu CD. Through my work as a radio presenter I got many people HOOKED on the JSO, as I frequently played from this CD. Later my sister who still lives in Holland send me lots of new Andre Rieu CD's, and she also became a great fan of the JSO.
Who cannot love this wonderfull music?
Every one I know is looking forward to next year when the JSO finally comes to Australia. As I live in Melbourne, I would not have to travel too far, but I know of people who will travel up to 1500 km to see the concerts.
    Roll on Nov/Dec. 2008

I am fanatical about all of Andre's music! My mobile phone has a background of "WHITE SUIT AND VIOLIN" a ringtone of the Second Waltz, and message tone of Radetzky Waltz. For a fun song, I love La Ola Walzer with DJ Otzi on the Vienna DVD.
I would dearly love to go to his Adelaide concert here in Australia, and I think he could do an almighty rendition of "Song of Australia" (I hate Waltzing Matilda!)- if I only knew how to let him know about this music! LOL
Love to all Andre fans and to the maestro!
