Sisi,an interesting lady.A little trivia I found about her, "She loved horses and was no doubt the best horsewoman of her time. She would take up riding a month after she gave birth and her aunt, Archduchess Sophie critized her at every fault. She wore black gowns a lot, especially after the death of her son. Black gowns were considered more elegant towards the end of the century. Her hair took three hours a day and if her hairdresser was sick, she would not come out of her chambers. She was a slave to her beauty and had a twenty-inch waist. Her hairdresser knew that the empress would have a fit if one strand of hair fell out so the hairdresser would stick the hair under the hem of her apron. She was once considered the most beautiful woman in the world. She was five foot seven and a half inches. She was taller than the emperor but the portraits made him look taller". Kati, I would be interested to know what you know about her.

Interesting stuff there Shirley.  I am so glad we did not live in that era.  They would have poisoned me for certain.  I would never let anyone take over my kids and would not give a flying hoot who thought I should or shouldn't do as I pleased.

I think women have a difficult lot in life, but sometimes we constrain ourselves more than any laws or prejudices.

And what is this with the having to look shorter?  sheesh!  LOL  Vanity is thy name, but I'm think that had to do with needing to look all powerful as Emperor too.

anyway, another bit of Sisi trivia:" Sisi is one of the most popular fruit flavoured beverages in the Netherlands. It was first produced in 1945.

It's advertising slogan, one of the most successful campaigns in the Netherlands, is "Take it easy, take a Sisi." cute, huh?

Hi Lorraine: I so wish I could travel and learn about all of the places I only dream of today. The history. And, to see the places with someone who has a passion for it. Ah, as if stepping back in history. I would love it.
I used to work with a woman who traveled with her husband for his business. They went to Austria, Germany & France on one trip. I had to tell her the places to see because she had no idea!! She was not interested in history, only going to shop. I sternly said to her "Honey there is a mall in every town, there is a Salzburg with Mozart's birthplace in only one city. Put the Credit Card down and step away from your wallet".
I have the old movie Almost Angels. It is a Disney film about the Vienna Boys Choir. (I miss Walt)(Family movies are missing Walt too).

Hi everyone, well, I just read all this wonderful information on Vienna and Schonbrunn and the art and histories and Sisi etc,...and have enjoyed it so much. I love history and wish that when I was in school I would have studied it more...world history, there is so much to know. Thanks to all of you who contributed to this discussion. For people like me, who don't have the time or opportunity to "discover" these places and peoples and all that there is to learn, it was a wonderful experience to find out so much in so short of time. I would love someday to be able to go to these places and actually visit firsthand the beauty and the eateries and arts, it must be quite an experience to do this.

I am so looking forward to the Vienna special coming out. It's great that Andre and the JSO can give us all this beauty and experiences virtually, when most of us can only just dream of being there. I hope that they know how much it's appreciated and enjoyed.

And I hope that all of you know how much it's appreciated and enjoyed when you give us such interesting things to read! Thanks.

Katie loved the buildings, colors and being able to roam around Europe for the summer.  She adds another music "genius" in her words.  Jim Morrison of the Doors.  Ah well, to each their own.

Our youngest daughter played in high school and was named "Player of the Year" her senior year. Now, she has arthritis so bad she couldn't kick a ball if she wanted to. She too has her memories. So important, memories. And . . . ATTITUDE. Right, Shirley! Live and love each day. Have a great weekend, everyone. Barb Henderson in HOT TEXAS
