Ok...Here's an attempt to answer these questions. #1. Statue of Liberty.
#2. Andre Rieu, although it may not be correct, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea who sat here. My brother said "Andre"? I thought, that's certainly a possibility, other than Andre I just wouldn't know. #3. Empire State Building.
    #4. Ellis Island??

Not having actually been to NYC, I hesitated to answer anything, but I agree with most of what Marlene says except I thought maybe a famous president sat on the bench.I've seen that building over Rockefeller Center many times(in pictures) but was never quite sure which building it was. Sally, i enjoyed your "words from the webmaster" too.You did a great tour of NY.

The buildings are difficult for me too Shirley. New Yorkers seem to know which building is which but to me...they all look 500 stories tall and about the same. Only a few stand out.

Now that I have seen them 'live' if you will, I have a better idea of which is which, but I would be stumped easily by only looking at photos.

Next year, I want to see more of the buildings. Maybe spend a day looking around in them.

Believe me, if I had not been there, I would not know the answers. I thought I knew a few of the answers but going on a tour and talking to people taught me more than all the years of schooling.

I enjoy learning, I love local history. Seeing the grave of a President in a New York City Episcopal Church were people walk by it as if it's nothing..guess they are accustom to it, but for me it was unique. There lied a man who Shaped History. And little Trinity Church. Interesting Story. I'll put that up later.

Hello Everyone. Sally, the NY experience you shared with us was wonderful. I enjoyed reading it very much. I only wished that I could have been there, but then, with the stories we have heard, such as yours, it's almost as if we HAD been there! Thanks for such details! Just hearing that Andre did some solos, was worth everything to me.

I've seen this spot...it's in my memory files somewhere...the file is somewhere back there... well...Sally...I'm just going to have to wait for that answer.

    Hello everyone!

I am an Andre Rieu fan for the past 4 years. I wanted to know if it is possible to purchase a DVD from his concerts in Japan? I do not speak Japanese but would like this. And it should have the subtitles in English so I can read them. Also any plans for Andre to perform in China? And if he did is this available on DVD? He is coming to my city in May! I hope I can buy a ticket but it is expensive for me. The Maastricht Homecoming concert was spectacular and very touching! Maestro Rieu really adores his hometown and they him! I wish I can learn to speak some Dutch.

    Regards,

Hello everyone! I too love history, and I love movies or songs or books where the stories are maybe, fiction, but based on history. Makes the story so much more interesting. I know some about my local history, not enough, and the dates and times...well...those are in my memory banks, however, it was a long time ago that I placed them there.
From the age of 8, I was raised in a little town called "Battleground". We live in Vancouver Washington, where Fort Vancouver is, the Lewis and Clark expedition are the ones settled the Fort, and there were Indians and the little town I grew up in is self explanatory as to where it got its name!
Little did I know way back then when I was going to school that I will have have moved 53 times in my life and ended up back in Vancouver, enjoying my life as an Andre Rieu fan and loving his beautiful music. The lives we develop for ourselves are really quite interesting. The paths we take, whether we turn left or right, the decisions we make, truly are experiences that we can love or hate. I choose to love my life and enjoy the many experiences I have had. However, at present, I could use a vacation!

Well marlene, I find that I now love history, sadly, more so than when I was in school. As for how my life has progressed, my experiences, I've found that I have learned more from my mistakes and bad times, maybe lessons in life that make us who we are today. Who was it that said,"how can we know where we're going unless we know where we've been"? And YES! I'm sure you could use a vacation! You are a very hard worker. I hope you do get a vacation soon.

I had a history teacher in college who loved the "Gossip" of history. He was into the elegant snide letters one politician would right another. He was fascinated by who had a wife who flirted, or took bribes to persuade her husband and so on. He made history fun!

I believe that we learn more from our mistakes and bad times, because they usually hurt. I can remember many good things and good times, but as far as learning from them, there's usually not much to learn, expect in that particular good time or thing, we learn that it's a whole lot nicer and better for us than when we made those bad mistakes or had those bad times, and it's a million times more fun too. We can't control all the bad times...the mistakes...maybe...if we allow ourselves instant knowledge that it was a mistake and not do it again.
So many keep making the same mistakes over again, and I guess that's necessary until the lesson is learned.
I've heard that quote you mentioned Shirley, but I can't remember at this time where it came from. It's a good one though. I think it has to do with the lesson of learning from our mistakes??
I believe that one of my mistakes in life is not staying with an incredible job...I had to move (ha) and had I stayed I would have been retired now and writing or doing my art. Oh well.

Hello everyone. I have a little while to relax and enjoy a few things, it doesn't happen often and the first thing that I like to do is to catch up on what I've been missing. This whole "News Page" is wonderful! I loved reading it and enjoyed all the information and the stories. Sally, your stories were very enjoyable and I thought it was amazing about that church and the old tree. - My brothers birthday is 9/11, needless to say it will always be a bittersweet birthday for him, it's very hard adjusting to what happened on that day, for everyone. When we hear stories such as what happened with the tree and the church, then somehow it goes to our hearts and comes out a little better. I also enjoyed the "Homecoming" report again. It's very perfect for our maestro, he is an amazing man. I just hope that the Northwest is on the agenda for those 40 cities next year! Take care everyone, be safe and happy!

          Hi Shirley and Everyone Nice

I love "living history" days if the people are really into it and act their parts. It makes me feel as if I have stepped back in time.

          I have
Colonial Williamsburg on my list of places to go. I've been to Columbia State Park where time stands still, and to Sonoma State Park , as well as most all the other places in and around California.

New York was wonderful to add to my list of places been. Ruth & I had a great time roaming all over the city, taking tours, visiting places of history. It was a fantastic time.
