*This is part of an email from May-Rose. Isn't French a pretty language? Reminds me to take another class in French so I can re-new what I learned long ago. And.. to translate:
The Concert in Lille is on the 19th of March.
How do you pronounce this name: Joëlle Tonnaer
When We will meat Bill, You will hear my pronunciation , I am sure, You will be trilled! Kati
Has Everyone Seen the new page by May-Rose?
May Rose - New Page <~~Click Here
I like the new page very much! Too bad, french was not in my neighborhood. Sounds beautiful, like chinese! Kati
I enjoyed the pictures May-Rose put up for us, very much. But, of course, I cannot speak French. I too, took French in school...long, long ago, but I did not keep up with it and so it is too far back to remember anything. I do love the sound of the French language.
About the pictures, I enjoyed seeing the people and the different buildings and activities.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to spend weeks in Europe and explore all those cities and towns we now only get glimpses of? It's great that people share them with those of us who cannot travel to those wonderful places.
You could not walk enough, to see the sites in any of the europian contries! Lost of History, lots to learn and see. Kati
Bonjour ,je me sert d'un traducteur pour vous lire Marlene, A Maastricht j'ai rencontré Sonja Harper , et j'espére encore en juillet revoir des amies , mais pour moi aussi il y à le barrage de la langue , mais la musique n'a pas de frontière , nous aimons toutes André . A bientôt May-rose
Thank You, I got it. Kati
Merci May Rose. On the sweatshirt I wear it says music is the universal language.
There is another fan from France here also, SOPHIE, who gives her concert experiences in the fan archives. I believe her favorite JSO member is Manoe.
Oui je connaîs Sophie qui habite le Mans , elle est passionnée par Manoe , elle étudie la musique . je vais de temps en temps sur son blog .bonne soirée amitiés may-rose
Yes, Sophie plays Clarinet. (My daughter Katie plays Clarinet too). Isn't it wonderful how Maestro Rieu can bring fans of all ages as well as from all countries together? I like that we share and learn from one another.
Oui André réunit des gens de tous ages , de toutes nationalités , nous voyageons grace à lui , il est un merveilleux Maestro ,dommage que nous ne puissions pas lui serrer la main et le lui dire de vive voix !
After all these readings, I still do not know any French, sorry. Kati
I had a wonderful teacher in the 4th grade, who would only speak French on Wednesdays and Fridays, so most of us kids picked it up. Then in 4th grade I took it in school. I then elected to learn French when I was in 7th grade through high school. (I've seen posts/emails saying I only speak English and wondered why anyone would say things they don't know, unless they've heard me speak English and then they know I have a hard time speaking at all. lol.)
I think I barely speak English. I mostly slaughter it. I try, but grammar at times is difficult. I have lost most of the French I've learn, but now that I have a little free time again, I want to take a re-fresher course. I would also like to learn German.
If I need to translate things, I use:
http://world.altavista.com/
altavista is the way to go!I use it to read many of the Andre guestbook comments.I am not bilingual either, barely master English. just know a few simple words of other languages.
What should a foreigner say about english?? It is a most beautiful Language!! I alway try my best, and repeat if I have to. Kati
Oui les chansons sont toujours plus belles en anglais , pourquoi ? parce que on ne comprends pas ce qu'elles disent ???
Et oui Sally , apprendre l'Allemand pour comprendre ce que nous dit André ! une idée .Bon mardi amitiés may-rose
Hi guys...re alta vista...i must be doing something wrong...i do get a translation...but then i have to guess what the heck it means because it translates literally and not idiomatically...sometimes the meaning is completely obscured. am i doing something wrong? L
Bonjour Lorraine ,.
Claire-voiec, chez nous veut dire cloture , formée de barreaux espacés ; ou escalier en clair-voie, des espaces vides entres les marches !je ne peut malheureusement pas plus vous aider .amitiés may-rose
Hi Mayrose, Thank You! I'm not exactly sure what you said...but I loved hearing from you anyway. I understood your post to Kati and to Sally, but when i put your post to me in Alta Vista, once again i got one of those strange translations which included the word steps and escalator.
Now I know you were not speaking of those things so my deduction is: that you may be telling me to put in the words phrase by phrase (step by step) till it brings me to an understanding. I'm just wondering how you guys are doing this translating.Aiyiyiyiyi (thats aiyiyiyiyiyi in any language, i think).
May Rose, i agree with you! Sometimes music is truly more beautiful when we don't understand the words! Kind of like dating a foreign man...ahhhhh they sound so lovely, til you know what they are saying! Good Tuesday to you May Rose. It is lovely having your presence here. Lorraine
Same thing happens to me Lorraine. The translator is LITERAL, not really as we would speak. I wonder if it makes us say funny things? Still it is better than nothing.
You and May-Rose are correct. There is some music so beautiful, we can tell the meaning of the words, even if we do not know what is being said.
Lorraine, you make me smile when you say -"til you know what they are saying".But really, isn't the French language sooo romantic?even just reading the words. by the way, there is a French web site that is absolutely gorgeous, have you been to Le Violon Magique? Sally has a link. i go there a lot, can't understand much, but it's well worth the stroll!
Yup, a pretty site. I look at the English as well as the French pages.
Oui je connais bien le VIOLON Magique , j'ai eu l'occasion de Rencontrer Martine Foxhal plusieurs fois , un très beau site, j'essaye de faire vivre le site Français des Fans de André , sur MSN , pas facile !! bon mercredi
Les paroles des musiques italiennes aussi sont belles ! il me faudais plusieurs vies pour tout apprendre ! may-rose
you are right shirley. in 1971 when i was 21 i spent several weeks in paris. it was wonderful! i met wonderful parisians, got to go to a french/jewish wedding, a french/jewish passover, and had the time of my life. i was there with a very very meager budget. i would love to go back so that i could actually do some shopping! i did purchase a pair of the most beautiful boots then and i treasured them for years...they were manifique?
sally, we do say silly things when we use the translators....try translating a coupld of paragraphs into a desired language, then cut and paste the translation into the to be translated box...translate it back to english...and you will have an idea of how wierd it is! that's why i don't know how you guys come out with perfect translations...especially the french into english...it is perfect...i must be missing something! love, L
A funny story....when i was fourteen years old, my best friend (who was and still is one of the most beautiful women i've ever seen, a liz taylor look alike) would get together everyday after school and on weekends. we would do our hairstyles and put on a little lipstick and mascara and go shopping. while we were shopping we would speak "make-believe French". we got so good at it that people thought we were really French. we work scarves tied around our necks (we thought this was very french!). it was so much fun. almost forty years later, while i was doing a show, a beautiful woman was purchasing my designs and looking and looking at me. finally, she said "Lorraine?". it was my best friend from years ago IMMEDIATELY we resumed our make believe french conversation. we get together for lunch once a year every year now. and we always speak a little make-believe french.....so much fun! she is still gorgeous. we both ended up having our own business and live within 25 minutes from each other. ahhhh youth!
Oui Lorraine , le sens de la phrase, n'est pas toujours évident avec le traducteur , on me dit souvent " fougéres ventilateurs " qui brasse du vent donc des" Fans", mais je n'y suis habitué au traducteur , il facilite quand même la compréhension de vos messages . amicalement May-rose. dans 11 jours André et concert de LILLE .
May-Rose, that is exactly right...and so funny...now i understand what all the "ventilator" translations signify! aiyiyiyi we need translations for our translations. have a wonderful day! are you from Paris? i know i should probably know this already. forgive me...i'm always a little out of the "loop". now that is a phrase that probably will not translate well.
have a wonderful weekend! Lorraine
Bonjour non Lorraine je ne suis pas Parisienne , j'habite Mouvaux , près de Lille dans le Nord de la France , pas loin de la frontière Belge . Oui pour les traductions , on doit rire un peu !car ça ne veut pas du tout dire la même chose .bon week-end amitiés may-rose
May-Rose, Gillian sent me a link to her photos and her letter had an Andre border done by you. I love it! Very nice.
je recherche les paroles de la chanson"uh uh mariposa".Merci d'avance!
Désolée je n'ai pas les paroles de cette chanson , peut-être Sophie du Mans ?
Chère May-Rose, mon amie! Je suis heureuse de te trouver ici et aussi étonnée. J'ai compris tout que tu as dit ici. Je n'ai jamais oublié mon Français d'école parce que j'aime ta langue. Peut-être tu me répondras. Adieu et à bientôt, j'espère.
Amicalement, Hermina
Oui Hermina j'ai ouvert deux pages sur ce site , comme cela les photos des fans de André voyagent dans le monde entier , nous partageons le même amour de la musique , surtout celle de André et de son violon . Amitiés de France may rose
