        Dear Sally,

Please forgive my absence for the last several months. My dad has been suffering from atrial fibrulation since then and I haven't had much spare time to keep up with the board.

I got such a thrill from seeing the picture of Jan. I recognized him immediately. He was one of my favorite orchestra members from early on. He always had the most pleasant smile on his face. You were the person that identified him for me in the first place (last year). I couldn't find out anything about who this young man was. I am looking forward to seeing the additional pictures you referred to on the original post.

Hope this finds everyone well. No matter how Dad is feeling, watching Andre DVD's every night perk him up. I am so thankful to these wonderful musicians that bring so much joy to our lives. They are gifts from God.

        Yours truly,

        Mac

Hi Macky:   I am glad to hear from you, as I was worried.  Wasn't certain if I should send an email or not.   Sorry to hear about your Dad.  I hope he is on Anecdotally or Digoxin or something like that to help straighten out the rhythm.  It is great you are able to help him.

I think Andre & his JSO are one of the best medicines there is...

I will keep plugging away on the Jan page.

            Hi Sally,

Thank you so much for your kind wishes and concern about Dad. He is on Digoxin and Toprol to help control the rhythm until they shock him back into normal rhythm. First we have to get the coumadin levels high enough for four consecutive weeks. This has been going on for two months and we are tired of waiting.

I was proud to see Jan had his own orchestra now. I wish his website was in English though.

Take care and I'll try to drop in more often.

      Hi Ineke,

I agree with you. When we went to the Bar at the Hyatt in Buffalo after the concert, Jan was sitting at the table next to us so I saw him up close. His hair was short and very curly. He was sitting with Cord. We didn't take photos and pretended that we didn't know who they were. Andre was there too.

Not to change the subject from Jan too much, but I have a question pertaining to the Kerkrade concert. Since we are having the Lipizzaner Stallions in town(March 28&29), I would like to know if any of the horses in the Kerkrade concert were Lipizzaners? Gave me goosebumps when the horses came in to the music of Triumphal march of Aida.
We do intend to see the stallions again, their "airs above the ground" is fantastic. did you know there was also a Walt Disney movie,The Miracle of the White Stallions"? I didn't til I was reading about those horses. I will have to see if I can find it.

Thanks for your kind thoughts, I've read a lot about Down Under in a series of historical novels by Wm. Stuart Long. From the 1st colonies at

It's nice to be able to trace one's roots & is lots of fun as long as you remember that forbears are like potatoes, the best part of them is underground. That is one of the things I like about geneology,as you can find out what these people did to stay alive & prosper under rather primitive
circumstances. Should write down all my known info so my kids & grandkids can pass it on. Hope everyone is well

It's very interesting that all of Andre's dvd's have animals in them. Like beautiful music, animals give something to the heart...peace and love and happiness. It makes sense that Andre has animals in his dvd's, because Andre himself, gives something to the heart as well...peace, love and happiness.

Hi Everyone, I'm back!!! I have just spent a whole month in FL getting acquainted with my new grandson, Noah. He is now 6 months old and I say he has 3 speeds; Eat, Sleep and Smile! He is about the happiest baby I have ever seen and I tried real hard to spoil him. It was a great trip, visiting my son and daughter-in-law and my daughter who all live around the Orlando area, along with 3 "grand dogs."
I really missed getting on this blog ( I just spent about 3 hours catching up on all the posts along with my email.) There was so much information on here that I had a hard time really absorbing it all. I loved the Andre Soup movies. Thanks for the translations; it made it so much more interesting. Marianne, I am so happy to hear you had good results on your tests. And Kati, my condolences to you for the loss of your husband. May the Good Lord bless you with the perseverance to get through these difficult times.

I thought I was going to bring some spring back with me, but so far it has been cold here with just a smattering of snow today. At least we don't have the ice we usually get. The plane trip home was a really bumpy ride and the whole plane broke out in applause when we landed!! The trip from the Louisville airport to Lexington took about twice as long as we were in the midst of a horrendous storm so that you could hardly see the road. Thank God we made it home OK. I was a week later coming home because the whole family came down with the stomach flu one at a time. Being a week later coming home has put me a week off in getting my infusion treatments and have broken out in a number of blisters again due to my auto-immune disease. I sure will be glad to get the treatment this next week as these darn blisters itch so bad and hurt when they break open.

Back to the good things. I am so glad to be back in the loop and will try to enter a few posts a little more often. I sure thought about all of you while I was gone. It is so fun to hear about all the concerts coming up. I will have to live vicariously this year as I will not be able to attend any in person this year. Sure glad I have a good supply of DVDs. May Spring be a New Beginning for everyone with the joy of all the beauty it brings with it. Love to all, Carol

Dear Friends. 1st of all welcome back Carol, you have been missed very much.
Hope the fusion treatment gives you a
lot of relief. Had an allergy reaction to taking a calcium supplement & it has taken months to get the itching under control, but it is better, thank
the good Lord!! Once I had the bone
density test that showed my bones being like a 40 year old, even tho I'm
a inch shorter than 15 years ago & that's because spongy tissue between the vertebrae lose moisture & shrink.
Went to a 65th birthday party for my son-in-law's Mom. We really surprised her with all the folks who turned up to wish her well. It was held at the Legion hall & we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. Olivia, the
first great grandchild very nearly stole the show. One very busy almost two, with tweo great, great Grandmom's
in attendance. That little one never stops smiling, but it runs in the family as Andy at 10 years played his

Hi everyone, welcome back Carol - good to hear from you.
You were talking about animals and I wanted to tell you that our outdoor kitty (whom I named Pebbles) got a good home and is now safe and warm with our neighbor's sister. It seems that someone in the neighborhood complained about the kitty and wanted her out of the area so we thought we better find her a home before something dreadful happened to her. We would have taken her in but we have three as you know and our home is not all that large and the lady who took her really was looking for a cat so it ended well but for a few days my husband and I were really missing her. We are to get cold again with maybe snow coming so I am just glad kitty is out of the bad weather.

That hungarian stuffed Chicken I had in Manhattan was the best chicken i ever had in my life...i hope i can duplicate it!

I've been trying to post for awhile but just can't get on.

I'm starting my show season....so getting pretty busy designing now. My first big show is at the end of this month...i'm never excited about starting up again because being lazy is just about the best thing for me...there's nothing i like better than doing nothing...

Hope this post gets in. I was a little "bummed out" this week because of the terrible news of those wonderful boys who crashed in the bus and because of the terrible tornadoes that hit the school and that area in general. People really need prayer right now...not to mention our troops.

She knows all about Andre already. She really likes to watch the DVD's especially the one he did in Vienna last year.
Marlene are you going to this concert and did you get your tickets yet? We are dying to know what row we got. I am waiting for ticketmaster to have some on sale for friends who want to go etc.

I'm waiting for some nice springy weather to get that taste of spring. We have had hit and misses, but nothing substantial yet. I'm waiting for Ticketmaster for the Seattle concert, to see what kind of seats are still available, as I probably won't have a great seat again with PBS, which I have already purchased.

In a surprising move intended to help solve serious financial problems, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has decided to sell the collection of rare "Golden Age" string instruments which it acquired with great fanfare in 2003.

The orchestra's administration and board of directors announced the decision — which reverses a pledge made just eight months ago — yesterday afternoon.

"It was not an easy decision to make," NJSO president and CEO André Gremillet told the New Jersey Star-Ledger, "but it is clear to me and the board that we have to ... be responsible." He added that, since the market for rare string instruments is strong and prices high, he anticipates making a profit on the sale and using the proceeds to beef up the orchestra's modest endowment fund.

The 30-instrument collection includes 12 Stradivari violins as well as violas, cellos and other violins by the likes of Amati and Guarneri del Gesú — the largest concentration of such valuable strings in any orchestra in North America (and perhaps the world). The NJSO and its fans had high hopes that the sound of these prize instruments — along with the arrival of the esteemed conductor Neeme Järvi as music director in 2005 — would boost ticket sales, donations and the profile of an ensemble that is usually overshadowed by its counterparts in New York and Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, within a year of their acquisition, the Golden Age instruments had begun to attract the wrong kind of attention. In 2003, their previous owner, pet care mogul Herbert Axelrod, claimed that the instruments were worth about $50 million in total but proposed, as a charitable gesture, to sell the entire collection to the NJSO for $17 million; the orchestra's administration, excited by the offer and fearful that the opportunity would slip away, purchased the instruments as soon as it could raise the money. When Axelrod was charged with tax fraud in an unrelated matter the following year and fled the United States (attracting heavy press coverage), questions were raised about the NJSO deal, including the provenance and actual value of some of the instruments. A panel re-examined the sale and found that the collection as a whole was worth, at most, the $17 million the orchestra had paid, and that NJSO administrators had known about and concealed doubts about the instruments' value. (The orchestra's president and CEO during the deal, Lawrence Tamburri, had by then decamped for the Pittsburgh Symphony. Axelrod, who was arrested in Berlin and extradited to the U.S., pled guilty to the unrelated tax charges in order to avoid being charged with fraud in the NJSO case; he was sentenced to 18 months in prison and now lives in Switzerland.)
  • Saturday, March 10, 2007 9:48 PM Webmaster Sally wrote:
So the great expectations surrounding the arrival of the Golden Age instruments at the NJSO never materialized: the taint surrounding the acquisition — along with the difficulties the orchestra encountered in recruiting and keeping a CEO (Gremillet did not arrive until the beginning of this year) — have limited (and tarnished) the buzz surrounding the orchestra, and the hoped-for surge in donations hasn't arrived.

"It was a gamble," NJSO vice president of communications Dee Billia told PlaybillArts.

While subscription and ticket sales are now up from 2005 levels, likely due to the Järvi effect, the orchestra has an accumulated deficit of $3.9 million from its turbulent recent past, as well as $12 million in debt remaining from the purchase of the Golden Age collection. In addition, while the NJSO's annual budget is about $15 million, its endowment is currently only $9 million.

In these circumstances, selling the instruments, according to Billia, was clearly the prudent (if painful) choice to make "in order to stabilize the orchestra," and she stressed that the NJSO board, which includes six musicians, approved the decision unanimously.

She also emphasized that the word "bankruptcy," which has appeared in several press reports of the decision to sell the collection, is inapt. "The orchestra is not going away tomorrow," she said. "We're here; we're playing concerts; our educational programs are continuing. The instruments are [for now] still in the musicians' hands." She returned several times to the word "stabilize," underscoring that the sale is to give the orchestra the security to grow and thrive rather than to save it from an imminent demise.

In fact, she allowed as how we should all "come to hear the orchestra soon, while the instruments are still here!"

Very interesting article Sally, thanks for putting it up. I hope that the NJSO is able to keep these instruments, they must really be a beautiful thing to see. Maybe someone will come up with some way they can keep them. I would like to think that beings the NJSO could appreciate these instruments as they did, they should be rewarded with keeping them. Too bad the person who sold these instruments to them, was not such an honest person. He put other people in a tough spot by being so dishonest himself. I wonder what will happen to these instruments if they have to be sold?? I can imagine how proud the NJSO is to have these, if only for a period of time, I just hope they are able to keep them.

violinmaker Carlo Tononi, the other by 19th Century violinmaker
Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, with a combined value of $250K. LASD put out a
    worldwide alert.

On Thursday, an American who lives in Amsterdam walked into a violin
shop in Paris and tried to sell them for $65K. The shop owner called
the gendarmes, and the man was arrested later in the day and both
instruments recovered undamaged. He claims he bought them from someone
he didn't know and was in Europe the entire month of December. Either
way, he's jailed and an extradition decision will be made later.

At the time of the theft, authorities said the violins would turn up

have his instruments back in less than 90 days.

All I really know of Australia is Olivia Newton John and the Bee Gees, although I think they came from England, but lived in Australia. And who could forget Steve, the crocodile guy. I have fallen in love with the Lipizzaners! Since they are to perform here soon I've been interested in learning about them. We finally did watch the Walt Disney movie last night. The performance in the elegant riding hall was outstanding! The history of the Spanish Riding School and the Hofburg Palace is very interesting. For instance(I copied this)
"Although not physically connected to the rest of the complex, the Imperial Stables (Stallburg) of the Hofburg were originally built as a residence for the then crown prince Maximilian II. It is said that Ferdinand I did not wish to house his son under his roof, being that Maximilian had veered towards Protestantism. This structure later accommodated the art collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, the art-inclined brother of Emperor Ferdinand III. This collection forms the core of the later Kunsthistorisches Museum from 1889. Only later were the Imperial Stables used to house the imperial horses, and even today it is still used by the Spanish Riding School (Spanische Hofreitschule)".

I am amazed that such sturdy, muscular looking horses can be so graceful in their movements and the "airs above the ground", outstanding.
After the movie, we watched The Flying Dutchman again, just so I could check out the horses. I had been especially impressed by the Triumphal March from Aida, one of my favorite operas. So next I will watch the Schonbrunn again. (I know there were horses and carriages.)
If I won a big lottery I think I would go to Vienna! My beloved Mozart and the Lipizzanner stallions! that's just for starters! I think Vienna is my city of dreams!

I will see, how long I will last, it is not easy, but the weather is very nice, in a few, we getting cooler rain, maybe snow?? Never know in Colorado, We had snow in May sometimes. Kati

            A funny little bike story...

Many moons ago when my oldest was still at home, I bought new 20 speed bikes.  We took our first ride out to the Valley.  Thinking we would have this leisurely afternoon, we peddled along Pueta Creek, out to Mankus Corner, into Gordon Valley.  We could feel a little burn in our legs, but hey.. that was good for us right?

Slowly riding on Rockville Road, I hear the roar of an engine behind us, as I turn to look I see a small truck with a big construction truck running upon it quickly.  I yell to my daughter to ditch off the side of the road and right as we did.. BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The construction truck smashes into the little pickup.   ..     ..    ..  And then Takes Off!  Yes, a Hit & Run, less than 5 feet from two scared females who pulled off the road so fast they both fell off their bikes.  I jump to my feet asking my daughter if she is ok, and yes she is, then rush to the truck where two 'migrant' workers are inside.  The truck was hit so hard, the doors were jammed.  Finally getting out, the young man tells me in broken English to please call the police.  Turns out he had bought the truck only the day before and like any young person, he was so proud of his first vehicle.

To the rescue come Hispanic Ken, CHP.  Wow.  Really attractive man.  I almost forget what happened next.

Hit & Run taken care of, we choose to ride home a different way, out past the Jr. College.  The sun was shinning, the weather perfect for sunning oneself...or so thought the Western Diamondback...Rattlesnake!!!!! That was lying beside the asphalt getting warm.  EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!! at the top of my lungs I screamed as I rode by with my feet dang near over my shoulders to keep them away from the snake.  How I yelled to my kid in time to raise her legs I will never know.  The snake slumbered away, ignoring the crazy women.

I tried to warn a young man riding towards the college, but he was laughing at me too hard to listen, so I was silent.

We continued our journey home, thinking we had ridden a good 25 miles in all.

That's when we stopped to get off the bikes and it HIT us.  Ummm, we were not so in shape as we thought.  We could not help ourselves and imitated The Duke with our Bowlegged Walk.  I couldn't tell if I had ridden a bike or a horse.

Took me a week to recover.

            Ah, the good old days.

Getting better, the little circle I made for myself, make sure if I have to walk, I am not very far, so , same circle every day, twice now, and last two days I did it twice a day, morning and afternoon, my back is killing me, so, I have to see, where am I going with this, into bed, or in a Hospital? At the bottom of the hill the road separated and between this separation was a nice huge Oak tree. Well, hence our new-found way to stop...by running into the tree! It worked fine.

Kati, how is your bike riding coming along? I have decided to stick with walking, especially since I checked out my old bike and found the tires had dry rotted! It's been awhile since I rode, at least 5 years. When our daughter was learning we all got bikes to ride, then later Dan & I rode a bit but decided we liked walking better. When I got my first 3-speed(probably in my 40's), I had a hard time remembering the brakes were levers underneath the handle bars and then I would forget which brake i should push first. believe me, it does matter! First time I pushed the front brake first, bike stopped, I did not! I went flying over the handlebars, lucky for me I landed on a grassy surface. Nothing hurt but my dignity! Just like when I went roller skating with my daughter. I had been a very proficient skater in my teens, even took dancing lessons, but the floors are now a concrete, where they had been wood in my days. I really did quite well, but I overheard a group of young kids say"Look at that old lady"! Well, i took off my skates and have never been on them since! That was about 30 years ago too. haha....... Dan & I did take ballroom dancing in our early married years, enjoyed that immensely too, but now about all we could manage is a slow fox trot. Ah, too soon we get old, too late we get smart! I think we shall just try to manage to walk a little. I read somewhere that excercise boosts your brain power, so keep on riding. You will get sooo smart!

First i had to watch my balance so close, I forgot about the brakes also, I was going so fast downhill, I had to think, how to slow down, before I will kill myself! ai said, I will end up on my face long before, make my nose bigger, or worse. I told my Brother, i do not know how to ride no more. He said, there is the brake, to the rear, luckily I used both, so I did not fall. Next day, I was smarter, first looked up the break to the rear, and I started. I am doing OK, just have to watch, how I stop, and get off, raising my leg,and slow down enough, so I do not hurt myself, maybe killed by the bike?? I am gthe same way with skates, as You are, I just tried the rollerskates once, I fell down so bad on the concrete, did not feel good, I never wanted to learn anymore. I do have no problem with dancing, at least, that what I think, have not danced since years, my Husband was an exellent dancer, but too sick to move, that was the end of it. So far, so good. I am sticking to my daily biking, waiting on the weather, rain, or cold, so would have an excuse not to go. Shirley you sound just like me and my husband. Took all these dancing lessons, including the waltz, and now we must really brush up on all of this because I really don't think we remember anything except for the fox trot like you. I danced a lot through my life but I was younger and had more energy. But we are going to dance for Andre and I don't care what we look like (that is provided our seats will permit). This will be special! ONLY FOUR WEEKS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooo excited. Hope everyone is having a beautiful day. Today's concert was Cortona. Hugs

As if that wasn't bad enough, the next night our flag was stolen, pole and all. If you remember, flags were in short supply after that date. Then 2 years later he had knee surgery. so, knees and back are not so strong. Sally, thanks for the info on Mirusia.Doesn't she have the loveliest voice? And all you lucky people who are going to the concerts this year will get to see her too! I think she will be a big hit.

Kati, you are so right! If she can do the complicated dances, the waltz would be a piece of cake! 1-2-3 1-2-3.When Dan & I were learning the waltz(or any dance for that matter) he would count out loud! I would say"Dan, stop that, if you have to count, count under your breath"! He's so silly! it took me awhile to convince him.

As You know Shirley, not all dances are 1-2-3, but counting, maybe makes it easier to concentrate on the steps. Shirley, do You also know the English Waltz? Those steps are different, not harder, just the music is different also. Kati

Hi Kati, yes I knew that not all dances are 1-2-3. I just use that as an example when we did the waltz. No I don't know "English waltz", I know there's a Vieannese waltz but it's a faster tempo I think. Dan & I together only learned the simple basics like the two-step, the waltz, the fox trot, and the rhumba. He hadn't learned to dance at all, whereas I had danced in high school and before meeting him.I tried to teach him myself, but as I have a natural rythmn, he did not, so we thought he might do better if we took classes together.I never had to count, I just felt the music & it was especially easy if you have a strong leader. But hey, who needed a leader in the 50's! We did sock hops. The stroll,
mashed potatoes, the pony, stuff like that.jitterbug, swing, all fun dances. Dan & I just wanted the easy stuff!. but then came the twist and disco. we did learn the twist but now I think I would put something out of joint if I tried that! But all in all, we learned enough together to enjoy ourselves. My favorite of all now is the fox trot. You can dance that to about anything.

The Viennase Waltz is all the same, any Waltzes, just maybe the music is faster sometimes, You have seen the Schonnbrunn DVD, they danced it beautifully, maybe just call that Viennase, because, the Waltz is associated withe city and Johann Strauss. But mashed potato, I can make it, not dance it, have no idea what the sock hops are, or the pony, I do have a few more things to learn I guess?? Hi Sally, yes, indeed, I DO remember Shirley! I called her the "lean, mean dancin' machine". I think she's more in the league of Lorraine, more of a professional dancer. I would never be in that catagory. I learned a lot of my 'funky" dancing at school. We used to have school dances once a week. Several of us girls would get together on weekends just to practice the dance moves. My aunt would make fun of some of the dances and we would laugh & say"oh yea, you, who danced such dances as the turkey trot, the charleston, the shimmy & you're laughing at us"??? I learned the polka from some friends, we used to go to a little German community, Freistatt, who have an annual "ernte-fest". We would have bratwurst, sauerkraut,& apple strudel. Of course the guys would always hit the "bier garten".There would be several polka bands. it was much fun. And Kati, the "sock hop" was just what we called our dances because we usually danced on the gym floor and we took off our shoes and danced in our stocking feet.
After I met Dan, his two sisters, who had been class A dancers in the 30's & 40's, taught me a few steps to the Suzie-Q & jitterbug. Dancing is really so much fun, but it does require much energy! I still do dance around the house sometimes, doin' my own thing. Dan says'girl you still got it", I say yeah, but I forgot where I put it"! Oh well, as long as he thinks I still got it, that's all that matters!

dear friends, A note on the Royal lippizaner horses, I do believe that they are the descendants of the heavier horses used by the knights of the middle ages, as their horses had to be very sturdy to carry both the man & all his armour, whether solid plate or chain mail. Curious eh what.
Also the waltz made it's appearrance in the mid l800, & when it was introduced it was a terrible scandal as
up to that time most dances were jig, reels & folk dancing with no real direct contact between the sexes, & all
dancers had to wear white gloves so there would be no oil marks from hands
on the fancy ballgowns. A lot of dancing to-day is very individual which started with the jitterbug of WW2
& followed by the twist. Just a rather wry comment on the signs of the times.

I was really impressed by the young USA couple,Davis & White. Don't know if or where they placed but I will keep my eye on them. such a cute couple, I liked their style of skating close together.I like the ice dancing best.

Yes Kati, the music is really important I think, and how well the skater interprets that music in their skating. I watched the young Japanese girl but can't remember what her music was. One I'll never forget is the 1984 Olympics when Torvill & Dean skated to BOLERO. They won gold that year for an outstanding performance. and yes,a lot of the music reminds me of Andre. I told Dan, last night, if you just close your eyes you would think you were at an Andre concert. I think tomorrow is free style isn't it? I'd like to try to catch that one. Kati, do you remember,oh, maybe not, a skater by the name of Sonja Henie? I saw her in a couple of old movies once, she had been a world championship skater. come to think , you are younger than me so you might not know of her. Anyway, she's the first women ice skater I ever saw in a movie. There are so many young skaters now it's hard to keep up with them all.I remember a young skater, Dorothy Hamill(?), who had a haircut called the "wedge". I remember that because my daughter wanted a wedge cut!

They do make a big issue out of describing the Lady's outfits and whatever they can scoop up. Today, is a Gala, the end of the competition, no more scores, just exibition! This is the funny one, they do not have to worry about the points no more, some of them even have special customes. It does start 3 PM my time, so maybe it is for for You. How is DAN/ Kati

was a lot of fun as we all had to make
the costumes for each child, & then my

practice, figures &free skate. When they get to the final dances etc you need a 2nd pair of skates plud private lesson etc & time to do nothing else but skate. At 13 my daughter wanted to play ball & have time for her pals so the skating fell by the way, It was her choice & she did have fun with it & she still skates for pleasure & she still plays ball & she's just past 40, & still in good physical shape. The pot-luck supper went very well, thoroughly enjoyed to stew & dumplings

I had one outfit made of Aluminum Foil.  Yup. Kid you not.  We did a space age techno dance.  And I had another that was pink with lots of hand sewen bobbles and beads.  Really flashy, and feminine.

We didn't change skates or blade, but changed wheels.  I had practice wheels, dance wheels, speed wheels and freestyle (jump) wheels.  Today I have dance and freestyle plus street wheels.  Now I need someone to skate with!!  Any takers?

Sounds like you guys were "into" the fancy wheels & costumes than I. I made my own gored skating skirts & we just wore a sweater or blouse with them. And I only had the precision dance wheels. This was back in the 50's mostly. My sewing teacher showed me how to cut the gores (they each looked like a bell). I remember the first one I made. When I folded it it looked like one of the gores was longer so I cut it off, each one looked longer, so I would cut them off too. Come to find out, I should have have held it up and looked at it first. I think it ended up about three inches too short, so then she had to show me how to make a bias strip to sew onto the bottom edge. It worked, but I felt like such a dummy! Anyway, I did make many skating skirts, mostly the length was about 14", didn't want them too short. I think they are much shorter now. I was probably about 40 yrs old when I last skated, and that was just because I took my daughter & her friends to the rink. They were more "into" the speed skates.

However, back then Tanja had brown hair, Manoe was as beautiful as she is now, and many of the old timers were up to their old tricks. A wonderful surprise.

Hi All, Just finished a couple of weeks of doctors, etc. and can now get caught up on all the news. Sure enjoyed all the talk about the skating, dancing etc. I was raised in MN and did a lot of ice skating as a kid, but could never get the hang of the roller skates. I think ice skating is a whole lot easier! Of course, I have been in KY for the past 34 years and haven't had on a pair of skates since then. Right now my knees and hips wouldn't allow it anyway. My favorite dancing years ago was the polka. There were a number of halls that specialized in old-time dancing. Now I just fantasize being out there and dancing up a storm.

After coming home from FL and myvisit with my kids, I was at 6 weeks instead of 4 for my infusion treatment and had a real batch of blisters. Also, they were unable to get my 'portacath' to work so had to be hooked up to what they call a pick line for the 3 days.
The following week I spent a couple of hours at my oncologist's office and the nurses worked at getting my port to work again. BTW, I am now a 5 year cancer survivor and am so pleased with that news. and, I have begun loosing some of the weight I had put on due to prednisone and tamoxifen. Oh joy!

Kati, what kind of painting do you do?
I also do oil and acrylic painting. I have what I call my "bubble bath" in my bathroom. About 6 years ago I was looking to painting my bathroom and one night dreamt about bubbles. Sooo, I decided to something about it. I painted the whole bathroom a sky blue and put clouds all around the walls and ceiling. Then I painted bubbles of different sizes and colors going up the walls. I love it and have had so many comments about it. Have never seen another one or anything for the bath with bubbles on it. Guess I have a one-of-a-kind bathroom!!!! I'm glad I did it then 'cuz now I wouldn't be able to get on the ladder.

That reminds me, Sally, did you ever receive the hand painted Christmas ornaments I sent you, or are they floating around somewhere in the Postal underground for lost and found?

Guess I have used up my quota of space for now. Will check in later. Have a great day everyone and I hope you have some of the beautiful spring weather we are having. Lotsa love, Carol

I had Thyroid one, 1981, lucky for me, at that time already was 97% curable, never forget it tho, 8 years later, they said I have it both knees, in my ribs, and my thighs, was not true, a person made a mistake, I was sick to my stomach, and showed up on my Hospital gown, and they said, those are my bones. The bad part was, had to take so many test, for about 2 months, and without any thyroid medication, I thought I will climb the wall, and, yes, gained water, because the low Thyroid, took me awhile, running around the blocks, and had a physical job, before, I got back to normal!!?? If I ever got back to normal? Real painting is , I would love to, but no talent. I do remember, the art teacher, in about 5th grade, He put out a green bottle, and apple next to it, You supposed to see the shine on gthe bottle, and painted in, I did not see it, He came with the ruler, had to hold my right hand fingers, and ouch, that hurt. That was the end of my painting, so He came and finished it for me. Not funny!! Kati

I love to paint and I often think there are so many paint colors and so few rooms I can paint.
Did everyone see the pre-order for Andre's new DVD called "Romance"? I probably have everything on it but I ordered it anyway. I am sure it will be SPECIAL as is everything he does.
Well the tickets for Miami came this morning. I was shaking as I opened the envelope but I was hoping for better seats. We are not on the floor as Channel 2 said we would be but we are on the plaza level 133 which is close to the stage, row 5. Of course we called them and the man we spoke to told us they are pretty good seats but I told him how will I dance? He said there is no dancing possible there which I don't believe. Anything is possible if you are on the floor level. But I know we will have a great time because I will be in the same airspace as Andre and that is all that matters.
Oh I just noticed that Shirley mentioned the Romance DVD also. I didn't see her comment the first time I read it. I usually try to read fast and that is not good because you miss things. Thanks Shirley. Glad you ordered it also. Don't know when it will be available. Hope everyone is having a beautiful day. It is close to 80 here today and that is beautiful to me. Hugs

Good Morning All, I can 't believe I am on this computer so early in the morning, but have a number of things to do today. Yes Kati, it is so sad to hear about Tony Snow and Elizabeth Edwards. Even being a survivor it is never far from the back of your mind about when or if it will strike again. A friend of my daughter's was
diagnosed a few years ago; had the mastectomy and treatments and was doing well when BAM it hit again in her bones and her brain. She lasted about another 6 weeks....and only 48 years old!!! Left 2 teenage boys. It was so sad. I am also praying for them.

Sally, I am so glad to hear that you had received the ornaments I sent. I had sent some to my aunt, my sister and all my kids and grandkids (had started a tradition several years ago for the grandkids and they really look forward to them)Sadly, the ones I sent to my aunt were all broken, so I guess she will receive a few for Easter!! One of the ones I sent my daughter in TX was broken also. I usually send everything UPS but this year went to the post office. Guess I'll go back to UPS.

Being my budget is sort of "on a diet" this year so I won't be able to make any of the Andre concerts this year. He will be in Orlando in April (and I just returned from there) Another that I would love to attend is in St.Paul in October, but I have to make a trip up there in Sept. for a niece's wedding. Guess the Good Lord is telling me it is time to tighten the purse strings a little more.

I do have something to look forward to though. My daughter is turning 40 next month. She is not married and is always doing something for someone, so her siblings decided to have a big blast for her here in KY. It will be during the spring racing mete here so a lot of family and friends are coming.
even aunts, uncles and cousins!! Besides the B-day, my one daughter just moved into a new house, so it will be a house warming and B-day. Besides that, 2 grandkids are graduating this year (one here and one in TX) so we decided to celebrate that, too. And I'll get to see that sweet little new grandson again also!!!

Guess I have rattled on long enough, so will sign off for now. Have a great week. Love ya, Carol

Well, off to work I go.

    Good Morning Everybody,

This month's guestbook started off with identifying a picture of a former JSO member. I would like to "pick everyone's brain" about another person that worked for Andre. I don't have a picture so this will have to be from memory.

There was a young man that often assisted Andre on stage. He was tall with reddish-blonde hair and he wore glasses. In the Dublin DVD, he is the man that carried Carla on to the stage for the "Song of Olympia" that she did as a puppet. He was also in several spots in the lesser known DVD "New Year's Eve Punsch" which was a concert in Hanover in 2003. He was in oriental costume after the geisha number with Carla, Carmen, and Suzan (one of their all-time best). Does anyone know who this gentleman is and if he is still with Andre? Andre is always talking about "the world famous team of John and Mario" who are stage assistants for him in Vienna at Schoenbrunn.

If anyone has information as to who this gentleman is, please post.

    Thanks,

    Macky

Marianne, i know what you mean about all those childhood pains.

Carol, so lovely that you have a big family. I am so lonely for a big family. Mine is very distant. It makes me sad.

Sally great to hear about your skating costumes! Would love to see some photos...have any? You somehow spread sunshine through every word!

Shirley, i dreamt about you last night. You were in town and i was rushing to get ready to meet you for dinner! Ha!

Getting ready to begin another day of design production. I am praying for some new and great ideas....i've done some of my classic designs a bit differently...but i really desire completely new designs for this weekends' show...so i am praying to the Good Lord for help...nothing is coming up on in my own thouhts!

My heart and prayers also go out to Elizabeth Edwards and Tony Snow....and also all the other unknown and unnamed persons who have been touched by this disease. My dad and two cousins lost their lives from it. The deaths of family members have left me a little traumatized. it is very very hard to lose loved ones...my parents death was and is very difficult for me....miss them so very much.

My prayer is that the Lord keep us all safe and healthy and close to Him. What more could we ask for in life...but i think the most important thing is faith in Him...because life does not end here on this planet.

It is my prayer this Easter Season that many people may come to know the Lord and what His Cross offers to those who believe He died for them and believe He is exactly who He said He is. Eternal life what a gift...what a hope. It says that we will have no more sorrows, no more tears, no more sickness and fullness of joy. Yipeee!

Sorry to get so serious...this is me i guess. When cancer is spoken of and loss of life...i don't know where else to go but to Jesus. I hope i don't offend anyone. I know i was so very offended the first time I heard about it.It is important...not one of us know when we will draw our last. Much love, this easter season to you guys, L

I finally was able to order the "Romance" dvd. I just didn't know where to look for the NTSC version, but finally found it. Now cannot wait to get it.
Shirley, I will send good thoughts to you and prayers that you do not have any tornados! I don't wish for anyone to have them, so if they could just go somewhere else, it would be great.
    Our weather is cool/warm rainy/sunny, dry/wet...depending on it's mood. Right now it's warm/overcast/dry.
Take care everyone and have a great day!

Ok dear Kati, you have an excuse right now for not riding but as soon as it gets warmer you get your bike out. I cannot talk too much because I am not walking either. Now it is a little warmer so I have no excuse. I must get my winter bones loose and get some good exercise. It was high 60's today but I understand next Friday it will only be 47 so I am keeping my tropical plants inside until after Easter.
Kati did you order the NTSC version of "Romance"? They usually show you the version you should order according to your country. Hope it comes soon. It should be beautiful.
Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend!
    Hugs

Barely made it home, legs like yello, but 7 more miles in my system. Best, if a person, just do not stop, for a day or two, it is so hard to start again. I think getting too lazy, ?? Kati

Well... here it is, the last day of March. didn't it seem to go by fast, or is it just me? Thank goodness, we didn't get as bad of weather as I thought we might. (this time).I'm kind of like the little girl who was afraid of the dark. One night the girl's mother asked her to go outside and get the broom. Little girl says"mama, I 'm afraid of the dark".mama says,"it's ok,God will protect you".little girl goes to back door, cracks it open a bit, and whispers,"God, if you're out there, will you please hand me the broom"? Says a lot doesn't it? So, I guess tomorrow will be April Fool's Day, huh Kati? not one of my favorites. never know what or who to believe. April is good tho', it will bring Andre back to town. Wish we were going to at least one concert this year but it's just not in the cards. Will have to depend on hearing from all of you who do go. Looks like an exciting tour. Little Mirusia is going to be a huge success I'm sure. On another subject, we did go see the Lipizzaners. There's not enough time or space to tell you how much I love these horses! I heard that the Spanish Riding School will be touring the West Coast next fall. That would be a "must see" for anyone living there, at least if you know anything at all about these beautiful animals.
Well, I'm out of words right now(I know, you didn't think that would ever happen, huh?), so I will leave the rest of the space for someone else. As Jeanine ann would say.."HUGS" to everyone...
