    HI BALTIMORE/DC AREA ANDRE' FANS!
I'll be driving my Mom up to "Charm City" yet again to see her beloved Andre' this coming Monday and was hoping to that some of you loyal Rieu fans might like to meet up for a pre-show feast. We're staying at the Sheraton and the Don Shula Steak House is located right inside the hotel. We'll probably be chowing down around 5:30, or so, so PLEASE feel free to join us! You can email directly at CheapKat3 on AOL (please put Andre in the title as I'm "Queen of Delete" if I don't recognize the sender), or just show up! I'll leave word with the waitstaff- hey... why not make it fun?!-the password shall be ANDRE'! hahaha
Hope some of you can join us- it would make Mom's night all the more special to meet some fellow Andre Fanatics!
    Enjoy the show!!!!

I hope that you can assist me. My fiancée and I recently saw Andre Rieu at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. One of his featured Sopranos (Mirusa) performed a song in the second set in which she wore angel’s wings. My fiancée loved that song so much, she decided to have it played at our wedding. Because we did not purchase a program, we do not know the name of the song. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can get a set list for his current tour? I would be grateful.

Each night When the bird of paradise makes its round I open the door with my love And both we travel far from the world While waiting for the return Of the first rays of the sun and of the shade In the naked room Or all our gestures are an unknown world Each night We exchange collars of promises We exchange gold rings Of the rivers and diamonds of youth And then we leave the port As masts on boats of tenderness For thousand countries Which you give birth to from my hands each night And our eyes do not find the sleep How to fall asleep when the tree is on fire In front of the sun God, that I love you each night That you like me each night That the road is beautiful each night {Instrumental} Each night When the bird of the paradise makes its round I open the door with my love And both we travel far from the world While waiting for the return Of the first rays of the sun and of the shade In the naked room Or all our gestures are an unknown world My love I want to be born never again.

      Concerto pour une voix

      by Dalida

      Chaque nuit

      Chaque nuit

      {Instrumental}

      Chaque nuit

Are you in luck or what? Mirusia is a friend of mine and I am seeing her tomorrow night as she has currently come home to Australia for a few days. She is loving touring in the USA. I will get the name of the song for you and will post it here if you haven't had any other replies. I'm glad you and your Fiancee loved Mirusia as much as we do. Alternatively, you could check out www.myspace.com/mirusia you could ask her yourself.

The Spring tour hear in the East is called The Homecoming Tour. I saw Andre and the Johann Strauss Orchestra twice this weekend. Once in Philadelphia and once in Atlantic City. You go to enough concerts and you never know how the audience is going to be. The audience in Philadelphia took until intermission to get warmed up and the audience in Atlantic City was into the concert the moment they heard the intro music. Two totally different audiences. Also Atlantic City is a much bigger hall. I would say there were around 9,000 people and the weather just awful.

The first time we saw Mirusia was right before intermission when she came out with Gary in Amigos para Siempre (friends for life). She then had two solo numbers; Concerto pour une voix (the angel photo you see on Andre's website) and wishing you were somehow here again (Andrew L. Webber). She has a show stopping voice. She received standing ovations from Philadelphia and Atlantic City. The last time we saw her was during the encores. (we had 6 at both concerts - by that time both crowds were really into it, especially A.C.)

There is a new Soprano from Chile and for the life of me I have forgotten her name. Suzen is back for the spring tour and her solo is in the Sisi character for ''I belong to me.''

    Here is the the program:

    • 1. Seventy six trombones
    • 2. Tritsch-Tratsch Polka
    • 3. Tales from the Vienna Woods
    • 4. Third Man theme
    • 5. Funiculi funicala
    • 6. Torna a Surrienta
    • 7. Eljen a Magyar
    • 8. Song of the Volga
    • 9. Besame Mucho
    • 10. Amigos para Siempre

    Intermission

    • 1. Granada
    • 2. The Girls from the 'Chantant'
    • 3. Emperor's Waltz
    • 4. Concerto pour une voix
    • 5. Wishing you were somehow here again
    • 6. The beautiful blue Danube
    • 7. I belong to me
    • 8. Bolero (another show stopper)
    • 9. Radetzky March

    Encores

I took a lot of pictures. I will try to send them to you. (not one of my strong suits.)

    Sincerely

Just finished reading Joe Fabrizio’s comments on both the Philadelphia and Atlantic City concerts and he certainly said most of what I would report.

Starting in Philly, my husband and I got to the Liacouras Center around 6:15 PM and stood outside for a short while. We did see Franco and two of the Platin tenors outside, Bela and Gary, and also the two buses, one of which dropped a few people off that I didn’t recognize. Maybe they were part of the crew or something.

When the doors opened at 7 people were already lined up in the lobby waiting to go into the hall. Like Joe said, the Liacouras Center is a bit smaller than Boardwalk Hall but, to me, who was sitting in row 2 in the center, it looked like the place was pretty filled. It seems like it always takes the Philadelphia audience longer to warm up than in Atlantic City for some reason. Andre was in rare form as were the orchestra members. The two guys who carry the tables and such even took bows and got a big hand from the audience. The soprano from Chile was a nice surprise. I think her name was Lara or something like that, but I didn’t get her last name. She sang Besame Mucho like I’ve never heard it sung before and got a nice ovation from the audience. The big surprise was seeing Suzan and it was great to see her again.

After the intermission came Mirusia in a white gown with angel wings which was a perfect setting as she really does have an angelic voice as clear as a bell. After she finished singing Sonja, who was sitting behind us, held up a sign welcoming Mirusia and I know that she saw it as a big smile lit up her face. She also got a standing ovation. Then came Suzan in her Sisi gown singing “I Belong to Me” in her lovely voice. The three sopranos also sang with the three tenors. First “Amigos Para Siempre” and then “Libiamo” and they blended well together. Of course, being a woman, I especially loved all the gowns the three sopranos wore.

I will admit that it was fun driving down to Atlantic City in the rain but it wasn’t raining when we got there. Got to Boardwalk Hall around 5 PM and enjoyed another wonderful concert. The Hall looked like it was filled to capacity and the audience was really up for this one. All in all it was an unforgettable weekend for my husband and I and we met some lovely fans, too, which made it even better. It was fun being among them at the concerts, too.

Now I am looking forward to the concert in Reading on May 16th. Hopefully, the weather will be a lot better then.

I hope this filled you in on our weekend concerts as I’m not really good at writing reports and such.

    Take care.

    Joan from Philly

Hi, this is my report for Philly and Baltimore!

At the concert in Philly my seat was on the floor but way in the back by the entrances into the hall. This concert I attended alone and at that time I happened to turn around and saw Andre & orchestra lined up to march in. It was amazing to see him that close and what a demeanor he has. You know he’s Andre and nothing fabricated about him.

The concert was wonderful and for me I felt a romantic/melancholic theme for this concert tour. Although in Philly the evening felt a bit conservative at first and I couldn’t figure out if it was coming from the stage or the audience. Then I realized it was the audience, it took the audience a long time to warm up. It was in the second half as the evening progressed toward the end the audience really got involved I thought. The Baltimore concert I attended with friends and the audience was much more upbeat from the onset yet they both were good audiences.

Mirusia’s voice was wonderful, pure and rich - her interpretations were beautifully sung along with her beautiful presence. She is still young and with her on going training and mastery she’s certain to have her spot in the stars. Thanks to Andre who will help her get there. I admire him helping young artists to grow with lightning speed as we have seen with Suzan Ehrens, Carla and Carmen. Suzan sang her “I Belong to Me” from the stage production of Sisi. She was a wonderful surprise to see, a familiar face and to hear her wonderful familiar voice. Laura (?) also a surprise from Chile sang her “Besame Mucho” with much salsa and her voice was rich and full bodied. The Platin Tenors were simply at their best I thought, exquisite. They sang “Torna a Surriento” with more macho steam than I have ever heard them before and by me being single, they stole my heart and comedians too. The orchestra of course was phenomenal and the trumpets really blew me out, they were great.

All in all it was a wonderful experience to attend these concerts which I have now attended 4 and Andre’s loyal fans also make it happen by being there. You are a magnet to helping the audience to loosen up a little because people may be just too shy to do so like me. Thanks so much!

Thanks for all your efforts and words in making your concert experiences so enjoyable for all of us!

I could be wrong, but I think one of the new sopranos is Laura Engel . Laura first appeared in the Schönbrun DVD as part of the choir. Laura wore a blue gown & stood next to Judith in the Schönbrun choir. Laura was 2nd from the left.

Laura Engel was part of the choir here in Phoenix in December 2006.  Laura is also the one in hair curlers if you've watched the NEW YORK  memories DVD.

Bill, Laura is from Chile, and has Red Curly Hair. I don't think she has been with Andre before.   This lady was not part of the choir, but new to the JSO

Laura Engel is in the choir.  That is the exact name as it appears in the Schonbrunn brochure that came with the DVD.

Laura Engel is the name of the new sporano soloist.  Look on Andre's website under the news link.  Laura is now sporting a new hair style now that she is a soprano soloist.

I could be wrong, but I'm really sure these are one & the same person.  I read these replies AFTER I put up a topic welcoming Laura Engel.

I did attend the concert in Norfolk along with 12 of my friends from Richmond. I have eight of his DVDs, but this was my first concert and it was everything I had hoped for except for the absence of Carmen and Carla. The audience was very old and not very responsive. Only five couples got up to dance and just for a short while. We were in the upper deck, but I did get a few pictures and I will send them to you.

  • May 11, 2007 Bruce Hague wrote:
The two pictures above are from the April concert in Norfolk, Virginia. The large image over the orchestra is of the Shonbrunn Palace. Andre had just invited all to come to Vienna in July and wanted us to see the elegant ballroom.

The concert was held in the Convocation Center at Old Dominion University and the program was identical to that posted above (Phila or Atl. City) by Joe Fabrizio. It was a benefit for the local PBS station WHRO and as a result the tickets were a pricey $125 per person. It was a sellout non-the-less. The average of the audience, however, was pretty old. My group (14 people from Richmond) were all in 60 plus territory and we appeared to be among the younger set. The audience was very slow to respond and this was no doubt disappointing to the orchestra. But, they were just great! They did the usual number of encores and finally got some of the crowd off there seats and dancing. My only disappointment was in not seeing Carmen Monarcha and Carla Maffioletti.
