Andre Rieu The First Live Global Steaming Concert

A Mother's Day Special ~ From Andre Rieu

International Artist Reaches Fans Globally Via Streaming Video
Debuting Andre Rieu at Times Union Center

Just in time for Mother's Day
Tickets.com, Inc, MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, and Times Union Center, Albany New York, announce an unprecedented event marking the first time a major ticketing company, venue and artist have worked together to broadcast a live concert, featuring international violinist sensation, André Rieu, on May 13th.

Andre Rieu was named the No. 2 Top Classical Artist by Billboard's Best of 2006, and he was also awarded the Top Classical Album for "Tuscany" and "Live in Dublin" plus Top Classical Crossover Album for "At The Movies." Rieu has toured in countries all over the world, including many stops in Japan, is considered an excellent conductor, a talented violinist, and a great showman. Overall, he has sold more than 22 million albums and CDs.

Available live and also for 30 days following the "live" event date, fans of the well known violinist and his orchestra, can enjoy his "Live Mother's Day" performance for $4.99 or become a part of history and see Andre Rieu live at the venue.

With fans across the globe, Andre Rieu makes a great first impression in introducing Internet streaming video capability, catering to several markets all at once. For the Times Union Center and Tickets.com, this is the first of many future events in providing just another way to enjoy live events.

"We're very excited to host and work with Andre Rieu in offering a unique experience to all of his fans," says Bob Belber, Times Union Center's General Manager. "This is an event that not only Albany fans can enjoy, but many others throughout the US and internationally."

"We've been pleased to work with two great organizations, Andre Rieu, USA and Times Union Center," Derek Palmer, Tickets.com Chief Commercial Officer replied. "The desire to provide fans with another option to live entertainment works well with our passion to meet a performer's and fans' needs."

Access to Andre Rieu's live streaming video concert is available through http://www.andrerieulive.com. Fans opting to use this method, although available internationally, should note customer service is available in English only.

Well this is certainly a very unique idea! I went back and forth on my decision to take the plunge, because like some I got a security warning, but then i decided to bite the bullet and I signed on. I thought to myself that this better be on the up and up, but I guess it is. I guess it's just my distrust of the internet. I've got Media player #11 so I should be set to go. This will be great for those of us who can't make a concert this year. Isn't Andre sweet?

I really enjoyed the concert, the music was wonderful as usual, Mirusia is all we have heard, really excellent,
and am glad Carmen was there. She also
has a memorable voice. However, I lost
the visual part during the last half of
the 1st half. I could still hear the music. The expanaction said something about the website being overloaded and
decreased the quality of the picture (or words to that effect). Did anyone else have that problem?

For a first time effort, I think it went really well.  Andre looked a little tense at the start.  I wonder if his mind was filled with all the tech things this takes.  And, where was Laura?  Not that these are complaints, just observations.

I had a wonderful time "at" the concert tonight. Was sooooo pleased to see Mirusia sing, she has a very beautiful voice and Carmen was beautiful as always, loved seeing her sing "O Mio Bambino Caro" again...what a wonderful song for her to sing... Suzan was exceptional as always, "I Belong To Me" was very beautiful". Loved everything about this concert, and actually being able to see it as we did, was a very very special treat!!!

Andre...well it just doesn't get any better than Andre at a live concert. He's just incredible. I love it.

Highlights for me were seeing Carmen, Mirusia and Suzan and hearing them sing. The Tenors, Amigos Para Siempre together, they are incredible.
Bolero, America, Amazing Grace, and Lullaby, songs I never tire of hearing. I never tire of watching Andre play or conduct these songs...his expressions, doesn't he just give you goosebumps? m-m-m

I really wish that I could thank Andre for this wonderful gift to the world, to all who cannot see him in concert under normal conditions, for those who cannot see him because of whatever reason...and for ALL the Mothers of the world of which Andre gave a special treat on their special day.

I really enjoyed the concert and knowing all of us watching at the same time was exciting. I didn't think to enlarge the picture but I will watch it again just to catch, more closely, some of the parts. Did I hear Andre say that the harpist's name was Alicia? And the lady in the hat, was she in the audience? I thought she might have been the harpist also.Whover she was she was certainly getting into it. I was hoping to see Laura Engels, I was wondering why she didn't sing. Maybe she will be on one of the upcoming dvds. And the beautiful Carmen, that made my husband very happy! And what is the name of the piece, towards the end, a very latin sounding, lively piece, makes you want to get up and shake your booty? I saw a young man dance to that at Dallas, when a lot of the fans come up to the front, towards the end of the concert. He was really doin' the moves!

Hi everyone! I finally got up at 9:10, isn't that awful. I just could not get to sleep last night. Wonder why! The girl with the derby was in the orchestra but don't know who it was. She had sunglasses on. The latin song near the end was Marina. He does that a lot and played it in Miami. I noticed too in Miami that some people left after the PBS girl gave the flowers to Andre. Little did they know that he would play 6 encores. Laura Engels was in Miami but I guess with Carmen being there she may have had another commitment. She sings nice but I love Mirusia's voice so much more. You must hear her in person with the sound all around you - she received standing o's in Miami. I am going to try to watch it again and see if I can get my video capture to work. I didn't want to fool with it too much last night for fear of interrupting the video stream. Have a great Monday everyone. Hugs

Thanks Jeanine Ann, for answering my question. I think the lady in the derby then is the harpist, the same one who acted up in the Vienna concert. I love her style! Isn't it too bad when people leave early? If they only knew that the "lullaby" usually means "Goodbye" and that when the orchestra members get up to leave and wave at you the concert is over.Oh well.... too bad for them who leave early.Well, have a good day, I'm off to do some laundry.

Congratulations Sally!  Your blog truly served a very useful function with this topic.  Everyone was alerted & was able to be ready in time for the concert, all over the world.

Judging from the 1000's  of people that are 'lurking', reading this topic & the replies, & not saying anything --- we can only hope each will at some point, come in out of the shadows, decloak & say something.  Please make your presence known to us.

Hi Patricia, thanks for writing to us. So happy that you loved the concert. In what way was the Times Union Center bad? I have never been there. Was it a small place. I am anxious to see what the Sovereign Center is like in Reading. Even though I live close I have never been there but it is gigantic from what I could see from the road. Take care and keep posting here. Hugs

Hi Joanne, There are several video streaming capture programs on the market. Go to a place like Z-Net.com (all small letters) and just ask for video capture programs. Some have converters built in and will convert the video from asf. file to mpeg or wmf. I use this to back up a one-time event so that I can watch it any time I want. If you have any questions just let me know. Hugs

Andre, or whoever in his organization that came up with the idea, sure came up with a winner by delighting ladies all over the world on Mother's Day, 23 May, with his webcast concert special.

        • The following JSO members were conspicious by their absence:
          • Heidi -choir
          • Karin Hinze - Cello
          • Lin -Violin
          • Laura - Soprano Soloist
          • Jean - Double Bass
          • Carla - Soprano Soloist
        • Andre's program of music & mix of humor was as good as it gets.  don't you just know thousands of people all over the world may have been treated to an Andre concert for the very first time & then wondered why they hadn't been aware of Andre & the JSO before now.
        • CARMEN MONARCHA ....What a wonderful surprise to see & hear Carmen Monarcha, Soprano Soloist, with her best rendition yet of Oh Mio babbino Caro.  I especially like her seemless transition from the  low note to the high note (no breath in between).  And to this day no one has such a flexible, gracious, & warm bow/curtsey at the end of her songs.  She seems to reach out & say "thank you for the applause" without uttering the words.  And she regularly blows a kiss to the audience.  When Carmen participates in a concert have you noticed that Andre leads off with Carmen among the soloists.  And rightfully so, because she is the best at capturing the audience heart & warming them up.  I nearly jumped out of my chair at the end of the song when Andre put his hand on his heart of stone, smiled, & nodded 'yes' to Carmen.  Someone is coaching Andre in the use of american idioms.  Twice he said he felt he was a "'lucky guy" to make music with the likes of Carmen & the JSO.  That is a pure american expression.  I'm wondering when Andre will transition to the more up to date expression/idiom of "I'm a lucky dude"
        • KLAARTJE POLMAN ....another very pleasant & unexpected surprise to see Klaartje in her familiar orange gown playing her Viola in her usual stage position sitting between Linda & Nadia.  Klaartje seldom appears in concerts here in the U.S.  Thank you, Klaartje.  I sure hope you can see your way clear to join the concert tour here in the U.S.
        • THE CHOIR...Judith, Resi, Kalki (?), Karin Haine, & Nicolle were again given increased attention & camera time, they add so much to a concert.  Andre first began to give the choir more spotlights in the Schonbrunn DVD & appears to be continuing with the increased attention.
        • ELS MERCKEN ...How nice to the this smiling blond violinist moved up into a more prominent front row seat, occupying the seat norally occupied by Lin.  did you notice Els is sporting a different hair do.
        • AGNES ...violin, sporting a different hair do & omitting the long dangly ear rings.  She sure has a world class smile & seemed really up for this concert.
        • MARGRIET ...Cello was wearing a new & different strapless down which I thought was very becoming.
        • I would have liked to see the spotlight shine on Cord, Jenny, Astrid, the new violinist, & LucaCord has been with the JSO for a long time, Jenny, Astrid & Luca about a year & we still haven't seen the spotlight on any of them.
        • 3rd MAN THEME... I'd never heard of the Zither until Andre mentioned it was the instrument used in the theme song of the 3rd Man.
I'll continue with some more JSO member observations later.  Now for some concert thoughts & observations:
        • 76 Trombones is a rousing, spirited introduction & was played with fevor.
        • The first words Andre spoke after everyone was on stage was to give thanks & tribute to Johann Strauss.  Considering that many, many people all over the world may have been watching Andre for the very first time, I felt Andre did a magnificant job of explaining Johann's inspiration in his life & the underlying motivation of all his concerts.
        • You know Andre endeared himself to the Aussies due to the references during the concert to Australia:
          • Gary - one of the Platin Tenors was asked what he had for the orchestra to eat.  Gary playfully pretended to be a Kangaroo & offered his tail for sustenance.
          • Dan, the Banner Man - captured the cameras attention when his sign, Waltzing Matilda, down under was being displayed.
          • And of course when Mirusia was introduced (more about the introduction later)
        • Granada - This number featured Roger on his trumpet, the Tenors, the choir with castinets, & Ruud who normally plays a trombone was caught playing a Bass Tuba
        • Emperors Waltz aka Kaiserwaltzer - Tania ,  featured solo on her Cello was beautifully played; Roger & Rene played their rotary valve Trumpets & although you didn't see  Nathalie , the flutist, you could hear beautiful, clear flute notes at just the right time.
        • Concerto pour une voix - This was the song Andre chose to introduce Mirusia  it was a difficult & demanding number that brought out the best in Mirusia .  In case you didn't know, the photo of Mirusia that was first shown when Andre turned the old lady into the beautiful lady she once was is the photo on the front of Mirusia's CD.  Her notes were clear, powerful, & sung with confidence.  Quite frankly, I was surprised with her poise, self confidence, & overall stage presence.  After the song I especially liked the way she descended the stairs, at each step down, hands of the JSO members were extended to help her down each step & to welcome her to the JSO.  Once down at stage level, Andre pulled out all the stops to introduce Mirusia No other performer has been given such a warm welcome &introduction from Andre.
        • Wishing You Were Here - another beautiful, demanding song, sung with confidence by Mirusia that endeared her to many, many fans all over the world.  Don't you know there were some crocodile size tears in the Louwerse household during this number.
        • The Blue Danube - The JSO played this number with pride & passion, Andre sowing his best on his violin.  Arthur (oboe) & Noel (French Horn) both contributed beautiful solos.  How nice to see so many couples dancing in the isles.
        • I Belong to Me - was beautifully sung by Suzan in her stunning "Sisi" gown.  Suzan always contributes to the overall "sum of the parts" of an Andre & the JSO concert.  I'm really hoping Suzan will be on tour with the JSO when they arrive in Phoenix in December.  I want her to personally see herself on the front of my T-Shirt in full color.
        • Bolero - Kudos to Marcel on the Drum for keeping & maintaining the rhythm during the entire song.  And no one has such a playful left eyed wink as Marcel.  Here is another example of the excellence of individual JSO members as Arthur (oboe), Sanne (I don't know which instrument she was playing), & Ruud (Trombone) as they performed their solo during the number.
        to be continued............4 june
        • Radetzky Marsch - I think we all look forward to & expect this music to be part of every Andre concert.  It is always played with such vigor & enthusiasm.  A concert wouldn't be complete until the brightly colored balloons drop.  At the end of this number is where we all saw the sign held by someone asking Andre to play Waltzing Matilda, "down under.  Don't you know that brought a chorus of cheers from all of his Aussie friends.
        • Libiamo - Die Platin Tenors have grown on me to the point where a concert isn't complete until & unless they do a couple of numbers.  They sing this song like it is 'theirs'.  One of Andre's earlier DVD featured the orchestra playing Libiamo, however there wasn't any oral accompaniment; this number is complete with the Tenors & the Sopranos toasting each other.
        • America The Beautiful - I have always wished this was our National Anthem.  The Albany audience enthiastically  joined the chorus in singing this very beautiful song.
        • Wild Rose - This is truly a haunting melody & Tuen plays (I don't know what his instrument is, or why he plays it out of the corner of his mouth- can anyone help me out here?)
        • Lullaby & Goodnight - it's a very quiet & somber moment the minute the lights dim, & Andre beings playing his violin, solo.  The audience is hushed & in awe, some in the audience even beginning to sing along, & a lady is gently rocking a baby in her arms to the music.
While I like Lullaby & Goodnight as a closing number, I also like the rousing Adieu, mein kleiner Gardeoffizier as a closing number because the entire orchestra & chorus end by saying, Adieu.

Two men come out on nearly every DVD to add something to the stage & then clean up the mess.  Mario & some other name I never catch.  Can anyone tell me which one is Mario?

I can't remember where the following occurred:
        • Mirelle (drums) giving us all a thumbs up & blowing us a kiss.  She has been long overdue for the spotlight & she has such a warm smile.
        • Agnes (violin) giving Ruud a flower after he successfully balances his trombone on his chin.
        • Seeing the choir hugging the male JSO members.
I've been thinking, & y'all now how dangerous that can be......so be forewarned the following is my imagination of a conversation that possibly took place between Suzan , Carmen , & Mirusia .   I am a fly on the wall, a smart fly,  that can speak, read, & write, in 8 different languages:

Carmen & Suzan are talking in hushed tones in the ladies room about the new sporano soloist that has been recently hired by Andre.  They both understand Mirusia has something they both want to do, therefore, they now have an agenda of a topic they want to discuss.

At the same time, Mirusia, knowing she is about to meet the 2 long established soprano soloists Carmen & Suzan; Mirusia also has an agenda of a topic she wants to discuss & also heads for the ladies room planning how to best broach a the subject near & dear to her heart.

Upon entering the ladies room, Mirusia comes face to face with Suzan & Carmen for the very first time.  There is a moment of surprise & silence, then all 3 begin speaking at the same time.

After introducing themselves to each other & exchanging pleasantries, Carmen, being the aggressive one, asks Mirusia if she would like to join her & Suzan over a cup of coffee after the rehersal?  Mirusia readily agrees.

After rehersal, the 3 girls meet outside of the rehersal room, at a prearranged spot & head for a nearby coffee shop.

In time, Carmen broaches her agenda topic by asking Mirusia something to the effect that she understands Mirusia has a CD, wants to know how she went about producing it, how she got sponsors, how much money it took, how she got the orchestra to play for her.....because both Carmen & Suzan would also like to do a CD & want Mirusia to help them out.

Mirusia gladly answers their questions over the next hour revealing all the details that led up to the production of her DVD & concludes by saying something to the effect, "I hope I've been of help to you, feel free to ask me anything else you wish at a later date about the CD's production.

Patiently, Mirusia waits for her turn.  When she feels the time is right, she begins asking Carmen & Suzan, to help her learn from their experiences, such things as
        • what things should I take, & not take in my suitcase when traveling?
        • do you have any suggestions about when is the best time to approach Andre with a musical idea?
        • how approachable is Andre to suggesting something be changed?
        • Please give me the benefit of your onstage experiences that will help me out?
In essence, the girls hit off, become friends, & vow to help the other whenever asked.

Only time will tell just how close to reality my imagination is
