I also like the Andre in Tuscany dvd for many of the same reasons as Maastricht. Of course, I really like just about all of his concerts. What a thrill! So close to the members of the Orchestra! Second has to be just being in Maastricht for the 2005 concerts and seeing his home, his Castle and watching the set up of the concert with Andre riding around on his bike.
There are so many good times 3000 characters, not enough room.
Summer 2005 Dutch violist André Rieu and his orchestra performed at 4 concerts for 48.000 people at the Vrijthof square of Maastricht, The Netherlands . Maastricht based LED lighting manufacturer Xilver provided a large quantity of LED lights for this unique event.
120 Sparkle™Ls where used on stage. 60 where installed on the roof of the 25 meter long stage and on top of the LED video walls. Another 60 units where installed to light the front wall of the stage. The windows of the 1600 year old church where accentuated by two Sparkle™Ls per window. On stage the designers decided to use 75 Droplets from Xilver, which Rieu also uses on his tour all over the world. The Droplet is a small LED moving head of just 18 cm heigh. It was placed between the members of the orchestra to make subtle flares into the camera for the television registration of the concerts. All the LED lights where infact dimmed to 30% which was more than enough for the camara.

I have a endless respect for the "behind the scenes" work that is involved with such an undertaking. I realize that even though I cannot fathom all that goes into a concert such André's, the portion we DO see is fun, energetic, exciting and extremely entertaining. I know that the whole world is coming into a wonderful knowledge of André Rieu and the JSO. May our reign of enjoyment last forever. I would vote for Andre immediately just because I know in my heart that he would bring world peace, but also that no one else would be hurt, no families saddened by their loses. I know that Andre is not running for President, but he certainly would make a good one! Why would Andre saying that it would be better that we "make music instead of war" make people get up and leave? I would have to question the motives of those who believe that war is the answer to anything except suffering and saddness. I am too sentimental and soft, I believe that life is a precious thing and we need to learn in life rather than fight for oil or whatever reason it may be. This planet is a one shot deal, if we (they) destroy it with wars, hatred and selfishness, than it's lost forever. How could we ever get it back? I sit and listen to Andre's beautiful music and feel it in my soul, and then I wonder how could life be anything but beautiful, full of love and peace? Life is so much more wonderful with beautiful music to fill our every minute of the day. If only we could convey that to ALL people on this wonderful earth.

Jeanine Ann, I still have my balloons from last October! I didn't get any balloons from the first two concerts the previous year.
I got an orange one in Seattle and a purple one in Portland. They were so important for me
What neat shot of the Bus!
Nice picture of the bus Wendy! I hope that this year I'm able to see them, I looked but couldn't find them last year.
For special accents...
Start, Search, key in text box: character map; select the one you want.
Or, in Character Map, click the Font list, and then click the font you want to use.
OR, click the special character you want to insert into the document.
Click Select, and then click Copy.
Open your document and click the location in the document where you want the special character to appear.
Click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
Tip
Many programs allow you to drag special characters into documents. To do this, click the character you want to copy. When the character appears enlarged, drag it into the open document.
Or insert in the box at the bottom
Any of these methods should work with XP or Vista. You will need to experiment on your machine to determine which is best for you.
There is a way to save your frequently used specials. Look in the Help section because I cannot remember how at this time...
Hope this is of some assistance.
Have a great day...
Joanne
Thanks for the tips! Very helpful!
Thanks Joanne, I will copy this, this time, and keep it safe.
I have a faster way to insert the special character. At the bottom right corner of the character map it shows Alt+a number. When you get to the place in the word for the special character, just hold Alt and hit the numbers (you have to use the calculater numbers, not those along the top) and voila ... there it is. The é is #0233. Simple.
Thanks Julie!
A Great Tip. Thanks Julie! (miss you, hope we can get together soon)
André Hey it worked. Thanks Julie and Joanne. Hugs
Hey, MR BILL will be so proud of us if we start umlauting all over the place!
Yeaaaaaaaaa for success!!!
You go, girl
Have a super, great day...
Ok, this will work. It's not "simple" for me, or maybe my computer is having a problem understanding what I want it to do, that happens a lot! But I did it...now I just have to make it easy!
André!!!!! René!!!!! See...it's working, but it's strange how I got to this point. Oh well.
André, André, André, André, André, André
You Ladies, just made Bill's day! Go get Him! Kati
Why stop???? IT looks GREAT!!!!
Unbelievably, I did it on my first try: André!! André !! Wow ! René
I am on a roll.
HI everyone. I think my favorite concert was the one at Maastricht 2 years ago - the dvd called " Songs of My Heart/The Homecoming" . Andre and everyone were in such a great mood. I loved the beautiful lighting and sunsets, and it just had a lot of sparkle. My goal is to actually be there in person some day. I also like the Andre in Tuscany dvd for many of the same reasons as Maastricht. Of course, I really like just about all of his concerts. I have been to 2 in person, both at Portland, Ore. and plan to go again this Oct. Since I haven't sat on the floor, I haven't gotten a balloon yet, but that is another one of my goals.
Hi Marilyn: That is my favorite concert so far. I enjoy Frank on the bells (Carillons). I have a recording of Swinging Bells of Limburg sung in Dutch. I love it. Play them both in my car!
Hi Sally. Yes, I agree. Frank on the bells, the beautiful music, the beautiful sunset pictures, the square,
everything made that my favorite too. Also the Swinging Bells of Limburg too.
Actually, I really enjoyed the music in general. there were many wonderful
songs, singers, and players. Another favorite is André (note that accent !) playing Toselli's Serenade. I love to hear him play.
Marilyn, that reminds me of Jo Huijts. I wish Jo would record a CD of him playing his favorites on piano. I would surely buy it!
I sure would too. I love to listen to piano music. I took piano lessons when I was a kid, so it holds a special meaning to me.
Sally, I couln't agree with you more. I have just been trying to catch up on all the postings of the last couple of months while I was out of the loop and this just really hit me. I also wish he would make a CD. I would be the second in line to purchase that. I sure do miss his touch on those keys.
It is good to be back and I hope everyone is doing well. Hope to catch up on whatever has gone on lately.
Love to all, Carol
Carol, glad to see you back with us again.
Welcome Back
We did not know, mwhat happened to You? Welcome back! Kati
Jeanine Ann
To find Clyde and myself dancing for André and being the only couple on the floor is by far my favorite concert memory. I would peek around Clyde's shoulder at just the right moment and André would smile at us like he always does. I was so happy and this was a dream fulfilled that night in Reading.
I will never forget this wonderful, fantastic feeling.
It is burned in my thoughts forever.
Thanks to Dan The Banner Man,
we have this photo of my favorite concert moment.
Hi Jeanine
I must say that is one wonderful memory - one to treasure !
The next best thing will be the Concert in Maastricht! The big Anniversary! Work at it! Kati
Jeanine Ann, that's got to be the MEMORY DELUXE!
I am working at it Kati. I am ready but the husband needs a little more convincing. Maybe if I start applying for the passports it will happen.
Hugs
Hi Jeanine, get that passports, and We will work on it! I just had a lots of fun, making Photoshows, with My Family Photos, some Friends, and sent them off! Thanks to Bob. Kati
Kati that is great. Did you get the software from the Photo Show page? That is a good idea - they will be impressed. Hugs to Kati
Yes, I did. I had great fun with it all day, yesterday! I made shows, of my Family pictures, and sent them away! Very easy, lots of fun! Kati
Oh, so many but we think that the top of the list is: Sitting at a table at Vrijthof 9 in 2005 waiting for the concert to begin and here comes the Orchestra down the sidewalk waving their instruments toward the crowd at the cafes while the loudspeakers are playing "The Entrance of the Gladiators." What a thrill! So close to the members of the Orchestra!
Second has to be just being in Maastricht for the 2005 concerts and seeing his home, his Castle and watching the set up of the concert with Andre riding around on his bike.
There are so many good times 3000 characters, not enough room.
André Rieu Vrijthof Concert
Location: Maastricht - The Netherlands
Light Design: Henk-Jan van Beek & Maurice Verbeek
Light Fixtures: 200 Sparkle™L &75 Droplets
Light Source: Luxeon High Power LEDs
Control: Hog III
Data Protocol: Ethernet & DMX-512
Wow, 48,000 people in four concerts must have been very exciting! These must be the same concerts that we saw in the "Homecoming" dvd?? Interesting information about the lighting and the LED lights Gemma, Thank you! I cannot even begin to understand all of it. It's amazing what goes into these concerts.
Marlene
congratulations for the é
its perfect.....René
The first time that I attended a concert by Andre and the JSO was the best because I realised that I was seeing and hearing something special. I didn't even know that they would be performing in Edmonton until all of the good seats had been sold. I was high up, to the left of the stage. It was the Christmas concert, December, 2005. I also was stunned to find out that cameras were permitted, and I didn't have mine with me. I've been to three more concerts, and have tickets to Edmonton in October and two concerts in Toronto in December. After that first concert, I was hooked.
Hi Al! I thought you were perhaps traveling again.
As much as Andre hooks us with his DVDs and Music, I think you are right. Seeing him in concert the first time is WOW!
I should add that I get quite emotional when I hear Susan or Carla singing in person. I can't wait to hear Carmen and Marusia live in person.
I'm certain that I'll get quite choked up.
And think about this: We would not have heard about these beautiful talented ladies had it not been for Andre.BTW, I've just ordered the bus from Andre's boutique.
In Dallas 2005, after Andre played America The Beautiful, Suzan came on stage and sang Till We Meet Again. The entire crowd was standing, holding hands, swaying and singing along. There was not a dry eye to be found. (including mine).
It was one of the most beautiful moments of any concert I have seen.
Hi Carol - so good to hear from you. We were missing you and worried about you. I guess you will have so much to catch up on. Just glad you are ok.
Hugs
Sally, the Dallas, 2005 concert moment sounds just beautiful. Wish I could have experienced it - so happy that you did. When Andre plays America The Beautiful it is a special moment. It means so much to hear him give this beautiful gift to us and our country. Hugs
In Maastricht, at Andre's open air concert in Roermond just up the road from Maastricht! This was our first Andre concert in Europe in 2001 so we were excited. We were sitting in the second row and it was great. We had the opportunity to speak with several members of his orchestra and get a few pictures, very memorable indeed. We have been to several other Andre concerts in Europe but that first one, Cortona was excellent too!
That sounds Wonderful!
One of my memorable concert moments is when I was at my first Andre Rieu concerts in Seattle,Wa. a couple of years ago-when he made a heartfelt wish. Andre said: He wanted to see a day when the world would make music instead of war-and I couldn't of more agreed. I noticed when he made that comment a number of people got up and left. I for one am waiting for that day to arrive-along with Andre Rieu. Kyle a loyal admirier.
Hi Kyle. I was at the first concert in Portland a few yesars ago (2005), and he was talking in a similar vein. I don't remember if anyone got up and left, but the audience was cheering at his "music not war" comments, particularly when he said "if he were president he would take steps in that direction. (I don't remember exactly what he said, but words to that effect). Of course, he wasn't specific in his president comments, it was very gereral, but the crowd thought it was a great idea. It's hard to imagine someone disagreeing with the idea of peace through music, but there are obviously a few. I say "Right on, André, we are right behind you"!
Marilyn, I agree. If only everyone in the world wanted to live in peace. I enjoy how many people from Around The World, come here to our site & blog. Right now there have been over 50 countries this month, sending loving people to look at our sites. I am certain this beautiful music brings people with love in their hearts together.
Here is a link to a story posted earlier. It inspires me. If they can, why not the world entire?
Barenboims Orchestra Plays For Peace
Sally. Thanks. It is a great article
and really drives some important points home.
It was a great article, I re-read it and think of the words that Andre and Barenboim are sending to the world...music and all the peace and happiness it brings, NOT war.
Kyle, I wonder which of those people still would have got up and left the arena NOW, after knowing that 4000 of our service people have lost their lives and many thousands more have been maimed for life fighting in that war?
Beautifully expressed, Marlene.
Why would anyone leave a beautiful Andre concert. I agree with you Marlene, if only we get that message across to everyone in the world we could have a beautiful planet with just love and music. Hugs
