Al in Edmonton
Andre Rieu was in Edmonton and I was there for his concert. What a day it's been! When I got up in the morning the first order of business was to see if I could get a decent ticket to the Saturday night July 5th concert in Maastricht. After that was taken care of, I headed downtown where the best hotels are, to see if I could spot Andre Rieu's busses, but none were in sight.

Each time the JSO has appeared in Edmonton the program has been different and this time was no exception. I did notice that viola player Klaartje Polman was not on stage. I can't help but wonder if she is under the weather. Another observation: They have new music stands.
After a few numbers some people were ushered to their seats. They were admonished by Andre. "YOU'RE LATE!" (pause for effect) "We came from Europe and WE were on time!" That got a laugh and a lot of applause.

Al, excellent report, great pictures. Ah, so you are going to Maastricht? I knew Toronto, but thought you might go to Australia too. Is that in your plans also for next year? Thank you for sharing your concert.
There's a chance that I could go to the Melbourne concerts. I'll be taking my 6th trip to Australia next April, so why not a 7th?
They are wonderful picures Al, I hope mine will be just as beautiful on Sunday!? Kati
Al, "thank you" for sharing all your words on this concert, plus the excellent pictures. What made all your info so helpful was your putting the names to the faces on your photo's. As I have yet to be fortunate enough to attend one of André's magnificant/out-of-this-world concert's. I have a DVD on at the moment, and as I partake of all your photo's, I feel like I am in that crowd. Hope one day to run into you at the Maestro's event-full display of wonderment. Saving my monies for a THINK RIEU event. Bt the way, we're sort of neighbor's, I'm just cross the Peace Bridge. Again, thanks for sharing!
I have also been learning 'bout Maastricht via internet, and ready The Un-Dutchables. OOOHHHH, I can dream....
I don't know of any other orchestra where fans know the names of anyone other than the conductor. Andre and the JSO are so special, that fans such as myself want to know more about the members.
I agree Al. Not many 'conductors' or Orchestra Leaders have enough courage to allow the orchestra members to be well known. Each member of the JSO adds to it's music and harmony. I love that Andre is gracious enough to step off center stage and let the JSO take their bow. A Class Act - All of them.
"Under the weather" as in drunk?
Surely not?
Paul in (Melbourne) Australia
Under the weather refers to being ill.
Thanks for the grrrreat concert report, wonderful photos, all clearly identified with the correct spelling of each persons' name.
I see you are hoping they will return to Canada next year. I, too, am hoping they will return to Phoenix in Arizona, but I do realize Andre will be in Australia sometime in November & December.
Hi Al, thank you for your wonderful report and beautiful pictures. I love the one at the top of this page! Glad you had such a good time. Hugs
Hi Jeanine Ann, "thank You" for the magazine, I really enjoyed it. Bet you are really getting ready for Toronto. I just missed out on getting a ticket for the Friday nite concert, so I am looking again. Take care.
Hi Judith,
You are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the magazine. Did you check Ebay for tickets for Friday? Are you going Saturday? We are
having a big fan dinner on Saturday afternoon so let me know if you are going to either concert. Hugs
Thanks for your great report and wonderful pictures. It gives those of us who weren't there a feeling of what happened.
Al, here I am on lunch at work and reading your story & viewing the photographs. I so enjoy it!
I love how each concert, though part of the current series, may have the same music...it is still different. Each concert is unique.
Dear Al, Thanks for the lovely pics & comments. You have echoed my own personal feeling about Andre his JSO &
the presentation of his music. Missed the last bit of the concert from the Blue Danube, as my grandson, Andy got sick from food poisoning, so the end of the the evening was a real denouement
He recovered without a trip tothe hospital & I had him drink lots of water
to stave off dehydration. He was so worried that I'd be angry with him but it wasn't his fault. That can be blamed on a tainted teen-burger from the Q&W in Stettler as that's the only place we had food. Was really looking forwarding to the rendition of Ravel's Bolero. but will buy the La Vie Est Belle, which is the only dvd, that I have found with it on the tract list. Thanks again Al, & I
am sorry that we were unable to connect
due to me being nearly last but I was in my seat before the Maestro marched in with his troupe. His eneergy is just amazing & it affects the whole audience
Love Marianne
