    Hi All-
The countdown is on...10 days and counting until my Mom gets to see her HERO Andre' in Albuquerque, NM and I'm still trying to find a twinkle-toed Gent to waltz her down the aisle. Come on, guys- don't be shy! She's a beautiful blonde, and I'll even spring for a pre-show cocktail as an added bonus!

Well Kathy, if the concert in NM is anything like the ones up here in the NW, then there will be a very nice, energetic, happy fellow, just waiting for the opportunity to dance with a beautiful blonde!

I want to wish everyone a very happy and Merry December! I hope it's a great one...and I know it will be for those of you who are going to the concerts scheduled. I'll sure be thinking of you and wishing I was there.

A few years ago the People's Choice Awards voted on the greatest entertainer of all time.

Now when I think of great entertainers I think of Bob Hope (vaudeville, radio, records, movies and dozens of USO tours.) I also think of Bing Crosby (pretty much the same as Bob Hope), Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Al Jolson, Lucille Ball, Jon Clease, Jackie Gleason and so many more. And of course, Andre Rieu who's quickly becoming a MAJOR entertainer.

So who do you think "The People" voted as the greatest entertainer of all time?

      Great Question Al !

I wonder if people vote "in the moment" (as they seem to do) and voted for Elvis.  Perhaps Charlie Chaplin?

I think the Entertainer I would have liked to meet would have been Walt Disney.  And artist?  Leonardo.
      1. December 2, 2007 Pauline Von Schelling wrote:
That's a tough one as there have been so many wonderful entertainers.

I think probably Elvis was - at least in the 20th Century and he still is after so many years since his death. He was a fair bit older than me but I saw him when I was a kid in Blue Hawaii and I have been hooked ever since. Even the people in their 20's & 30's here love him now. There was and never will be anyone like him.

But there are the "Golden" stars of Hollywood like Stewart Grainger, Clarke Gable and the list is endless. So who do you choose???

Andre is in a category of his own - no-one can hold a candle to him at all - all ages love him.

Hope everyone has a very happy and safe Christmas - we will as usual swelter over a hot oven in 30 to 35c heat. I am soooooo looking forward to November 2008.

        Cheers

Don't get me wrong.  I like Hanks.  He is a gifted actor.  It is the "Of All Time" designation that I would object to.

What about Stage Actors?  Or oracles of ages past?  What about people we know nothing of, such as the story tellers of Africa?  They walk from village to village sharing history, bringing it to life.  Hans Christain Anderson, was he not an entertainer?

            Hanks over The Beatles?
Victor Borge? Bob Hope who for so so many years flew into war zones so others could laugh.

Oh there are too many to choose from!!

I don't know who "the people" voted for. I would think it might depend on the generation you were born in and also the part of the world you lived in.Overall, I'm probably with you on Bing Crosby & Bob Hope. Talking about "traditions", they were traditions for many households at this time of year. And as for traditions and customs at Christmas, I think, here in the US, it's a combination from many different cultures because we are a people of many different cultures. Personally I like the Victorian traditions, probably the "English" in me.Now André is part of my Christmas tradition!

Hello everyone. Wow all those who are going to see Andre soon must be so excited, hopefully this time next year it will be me that is so excited. Although I am getting worried, tickets for Melbourne have gone on sale but there is no mention of him coming to other states in Australia!! Lets hope ALL Aussies get the opportunity to see their idol. Lets keep each other posted on this wonderful website.

I had a sleep over at my sister Mavis's place last night. We went to visit Bill in hospital then came home and had an early dinner then settled down and watched the new Andre in Wonderland dvd. It was absolutely WONDERFUL. He is the most amazing entertainer.

I can't believe it's only 23 more sleeps till santa arrives... This year has certainly gone so quickly.

Have a lovely week everyone... thanks for being my friends... hugs to all Les xxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Leslie,  yes we are so excited, week after next I will be leaving for Canada.  I can feel those goosebumps already.  I cannot wait until you get your turn, then you will be counting the sleeps until you see Andre live in concert.  Just think of the joy that will bring to you!

So glad you and you sister could visit Bill.  Hope is doing ok.  Bet the Wonderland is wonderful!  Cannot wait until the postman comes with two white packages from Maastricht.

I have been so busy getting ready to leave that Christmas will be here before I know it.  I am really worried about my kitty Honi.  Her tumors are starting to bleed and I just pray that nothing happens while we are away.  My sister will be watching over her.  It is so sad to know that we had to prepare a place for her in the garden before the ground froze.  I hope she holds on for a while.  Keep praying for her.  Thanks.
      Hugs to all

Happy December, everyone. I am waiting to hear all about the concerts in his current tour. Lots of Christmas music no doubt. Last night I was playing his "Christmas with André Rieu" DVD - the one made in 1997. I love the Christmas music on the DVD and the CD as well - lots of traditional songs that I don't hear too often in the US, but lots that I really like. André and the JSO were all 10 years younger, most of them still with him. One thing that I always wonder about when I watch the DVD is how in the world they manage all of those lighted candles on the tree. It looks like a fire waiting to happen. There is lots of straw covering the floor, too. I've noticed lighted candles on the trees in videos taken in Germany also. What is their secret or do they have lots of fires? Have a great Sunday. It's very cold and rainy here - typical winter weather.

There are so many people who could be the Greatest Entertainer of all time. I tend to believe that it's someone who impressed us by not only their entertaining but also their humanitarian efforts. Among those that I can think of are the obvious ones such as Bob Hope, Elvis and of course our maestro André.
These men have entertained the world, impressed the world and have given us their "all". I'm sure there is more we could add to this list, however, these are the most prominent in my mind.
Sally said she wondered about people voting "in the moment", which is probably most likely. We also have the age group, "now" compared to "then" entertainers. How many people now days, who are voting, really remember Bob Hope for all he had done?

My vote, would be André of course, then Bob Hope, then Elvis. Then...
Well, I'm sure I'm missing some!

cd or dvd at my local Walmart or at any of thelarger record outlets in either Calgary or Lethbridge. Both cities are a 2 hour drive from here so I don't get to go very often. Have to keep the notes short as the carpal tunnel plus arthritis has really flared up with this minus 18 to 15 weather we've had for the past week. Only blessing is no wind. Am still waiting for a nerve test since Oct 1st, so then they can schedule the surgery. Very slow going but will have to be patient. I have a love/hate emotion to the holidays, likely because so many of my family has passed on, but my children are here as are two grandsons, so it is not all bad. My kids, check on me all the time, so I never feel left out of things, but I will be fine. Will take a day, have a good cry as I recall all the friends & family who have already gone to their reward. Thank goodness I can lose myself in a book & worry about other folks trials. Reading a history of India, the partition etc. It is a real horror story, that iot still going on around the world in many places. We all pretty much believe in a supreme being, so how we worship should not be a big deal. The main thing is there is one Supreme God, in all major religions
& no-one should be persecuted or murdered because they worship differntly from yourself. Tolerance is
something we should strive for as we can build a better world. I studied all the major religions of the world about 25 years ago & I was struck by the similarities rather than difference between them. Having an u nderstanding of other cultures destroys the fear we have of anything different, and with that goes the intolerance. It's Xmas &
we should love our neighbor as ourself.
Have Happy Holidays everyone, Love Marianne

Personal thought here on his glasses...if he is like some...he wears the glasses sometimes, contacts sometimes. Sometimes, I've heard you have to give your eyes a rest from the contacts. Just a guess of course.
      1. December 2, 2007 Marilyn Smith wrote:
I've worn contacts for many years and they were just fine until I reached the point where I was not only near-sighted(distance vision not 20-20), but also had trouble reading close-up. So for awhile I kept wearing my contacts and also had glasses for close up. I wore the gas-permeable lenses (Hard ones) and so wore them all day. I got tired of that after awhile, so now I don't wear contacts, but just wear bifocals. My eyes are good enough to where I don't need to wear them all of the time - just when distance vision is needed (eg. driving) or reading. In one of the soaps re Efteling there is a scene where Pierre has been trying to get André to wear contacts, but André doesn't like them, so he is happy with just his glasses. He says his mother thinks he looks like a history teacher. I forget what no. soap that was. I don't know if he is near or far sighted, but I am sure he must have trouble with reading closeup. (We all seem to get there sooner or later.
        1. December 2, 2007 Moderator Jeanine Ann wrote:
I wore contacts too for years and now wear my glasses most of the time because I am near sighted.  I tried the hard lenses and the soft lenses but as my eyes got drier I just stopped wearing them.  I loved them because they were so convenient.  I could check into them again since they are improved I'm sure.
I saw that soap too and he said he cannot wear lenses because he cannot get them into his eyes.  I had that problem too and used a tiny rubber applicator (Clyde had the same problem) and it worked fine to put the lenses in and get them out.  But I would say that Andre is near sited because he wears the glasses too much if he would need them for closeup but I am not sure.  Either way I love him no matter what he wears.  I don't know how he sees on stage without them but he looks much more handsome of course without them.  My closeup vision is so good that I can see the smallest writing and even those tiny little white spider mites you get on plants I can see them and their tiny little legs that my husband says he cannot see.  Well anyway I think Andre did change his glasses because he seemed to be wearing a more invisible type before and now the tortoise type.
            Hugs

Hi Jeanine. I'm glad you have good close-up vision. My closeup vision was worse when I wore my contacts, so I really needed those glasses. I never had problems getting my contacts in because I just put them on the bottom of my eye between the eyeball and lid, and then just pushed them up. Of course, they had lots of conditioner on them. I too love André no matter what he wears. Hugs

Thanks for the hint about recording devices. I will take a digital camera as well as my camcorder. I hope to get a video, but if not I will take pics.

This indeed will be a wonderful Christmas season for me. My only regret is that my 11 year old granddaughter won't be here in time for the Rieu concert. I think that she would have enjoyed the exposure to really good music. She loves to watch the DVD I have of Disney's Fantasia.

Well, I am back from the concert. I am rather miffed with PBS. The instructions they sent to get to the concert were entirely inadequate. I had to stop 3 times to ask directions and as a result arrived late. I could hear 76 Trombones playing as I entered but by then the entry procession was over,

The show was a little more serious than I had expected. No Manoe with her Rudolph mask, etc. But it was a lovely show, The Albukirk (as Andre referred to Albuquerque) fans seemed a little more subdued than most venues I have observed. Very few people dancing in the aisles (and then only when egged on by Andre) and no marching.

I was able to take some pictures and videos. You can see them here:
          http://mike-allen.info/page32/page32.html

You will need QuickTime (free download from Apple) to view the videos. I do apologize for the shaky hand. Best I could do and I did get most of the audio.

I did miss Carla. I was hoping to see the "Doll" aria and "Juleska von Budapest" live and, of course a duet with Carmen. Carmen was, as usual, marvelous. Laura Engles is a great addition. The Australian Soprano (I keep forgetting her name) is a HUGE improvement over Suzan Erens.

The Platinum Tenors were every thing that I expected. Goulash, sausages, kangaroo and all.

Andre did several Encores (I lost count) including "America the Beautiful" and "Amazing Grace."

Manoe is such a multi-talented person, I would have enjoyed hearing her sing. Her Dixieland rendition of Jingle Bells caught me by surprise so I didn't get too much on tape, Damn, but that woman can swing!

All in all it was a good concert. I didn't think too much of the venue. I just hope the next time the JSO comes to Albukirk they can find a better place.

I am mostly a happy camper.

The best of the season to all the Rieu fans all over the world.

    Hi friends,
I arrived home last evening from Sacramento. I had such a good time and so much fun I am still too excited to write it all down. Meeting Kati was one of the great highlights, she is so much fun! I got to see Sally and Joanne again as well as a bunch of other fans! Another highlight was running into Franco before the show and talking to him for about 15 min. I got a picture of him and Vernice. He seems to think Andre will be back on the west coast in the future. They like it here. Not sure when but I will be watching. We had quite a storm here on the Oregon Coast and now lots of flooding. My brother lives in the heart of the whole thing and says it is a mess. No power, no phones, and everything has blown over. He saw a new house where a creek had risen and was running through the middle of it.
Pretty odd for the high winds we had, usually not in the 100 mph.

Was not funny!!!! I am so glad i made it to Sacramento, the engine made the same terrible noise on landing in Denver, but i thanked God, i was on the ground. Why would you book Aussie tickets for Melbourne thru the Ovation Channel web site, when their top price is Aus $ 325, but ticket master top price is Aus 286 ? however, this is not as bad as the mark up that some web sites are doing... I saw the interview Andre did on German TV the other morning, and he said that some web sites are charging way over the odds for his tickets, but unfortunately, he can do nothing about it... big shame, because many people dont realize what the 'real prices' are, and worse still , when those web sites sell out of 'their allocation', they lead people to believe that the whole thing is sold out..!. it breaks my heart, to think that so many people are mislead. we dont mind to give 10% to a 'ticket broker', but not 100%! Some random thoughts:

Andre and the JSO will be playing in Albuquerque. New Mexico on December 11th before heading to Toronto. I'm thinking that they'll fly because it's simply too far to drive in such a short time, and they will want to be refreshed and ready for the grand opening concert of their World Stadium Tour.

As a Canadian it makes me very proud that Andre has chosen to open his tour in my country.

I'll bet crews have already begun assembling the decore, as they call it, although I call it a set. The reason I think this is so, is because this will be the first time the set has been reconstructed in a stadium and they want to get everything right. Also, nothing is scheduled in Rogers Centre until after the concerts and after the set has been disassembled and removed.

I'll bet there will be a full rehearsal Thursday next week. How I'd love to be there for that.

Hi...I'm new to this website, but I thought you might like to hear from someone who attended the December 1st concert at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. The performance was letter perfect, musically and in all respects. We heard Susan Erens, Carmen and the three tenors, all in great form and the evening was capped by a stunning performance of the very difficult Ravel's Bolero...the most deeply classical piece I have heard the JSO perform.
Oakland is across the bay from San Francisco and Andre used this as a foil to keep saying how happy the JSO was to be in San Francisco and what a great city it was, so that the audience could shout Oakland. That led to humor throughout the evening about not being sure where they were (Oklahoma?) and so forth. All in all a wonderful concert played to a most appreciative audience.

    1. December 6, 2007 Moderator Bill AZ wrote:
someone should have shouted out that San francisco is across the bay from OAKLAND.  Cause I know all about the Oakland/SF rivalry.

Actually, I quite surprised that Andre or someone in his organization would know how the SF useage would bounce off his Oakland  audience.

How many people, would you estimate, were in the audience?

      1. December 6, 2007 Ed wrote:
The Arena holds just under 20,000 for basketball, but the sections behind the orchestra stage were vacant...the available seats were essentially sold out and I would estimate about 16,000. The local PBS station KQED sponsored this concert as a fund-raiser and I felt that only a small percentage of the audience were San Francisco residents. None of the people seated around us were from SF. I live in Watsonville and the people seated next to me were from Pinole, for example.
I assume that in advance of each concert, the JSO's agents gather up some material about the locale for Andre to use. In this case it was easy because Oakland is looked down on as a poor relation by people in SF...note the famous quote from Gertrude Stein: "The trouble with Oakland is that when you get there, there's no there there."

is supposed to be up-coming in the next few month, so will an eye out for that concert. The photo of Andre & Carman are really lovely, wouldn't mind purchasing copies if available. Love to all Marianne

Dear folks Just a reminder of to-day's anniversary of Pearl Harbor. I remember exactly where I was that Sunday a.m. as an eight yr. old, walking down the hall
for my breakfast. The same holds true of the Kennedy assassination. Funny how such tragedies stick in our memories, Now, we are all friends, & trading partners & most of the older folk have passed, but there are still a few who remember. It was a sad time, but time heals all wounds & maybe one day all men
can be brothers. The picture of all the houses is sweet with them lighting up & the Xmas trees glowing. To Granpa Mike,
all I have is internet explorer & I can go most anyplace including both German ZDF,de and Tros.nl which gives me both the radio & t.v broadcasts. Now if I could figure out the time difference I think I could get the Andre broadcasts.
Am going to try the WDR site & see what comes up there. That's exploring, & never leaving my living-room. Love to all Marianne

Dear Marianne, I also have memories for these same things. First I was born a little over 9 months after Pearl Harbor,(If that tells you something) also the day Kennedy was assassinated I remember being in a barber shop having my hair cut on November 22. Just a little over three years ago on November 22 I was again in a barber shop having my hair cut and my mother was in the hospital with kidney failure. When I returned to see her she had died just one hour before!!

Dear friends. It is getting late 10p.m.
the temp is minus 24 degrees & it is supposed to get even colder overnight.
I am glad I went out to-day to run some errands, but still have to go again to-
morrow for a bit of groc shopping. The car works well even in the cold. Plug it in as soon as it gets below zero. that is celcius so on the fahrenheit scale it is even colder. They changed this about 20 years ago & I still would rather have the old scale, with which I was more familiar. It took me ages to realize that 20 degrees celcius was like
75 degrees fahrenheit. I don't think anyone in North America was left untouched by WW 2, in many different ways. Canada at the time was still an English dominion so we were involved right from the beginning in Sept /39. Our home in Calgary was in direct line with the runway at Currie Barracks, so we never needed an alarm clock as the planes started flying at 6a.m. & flew all day long. They were B17 for the most part, but later on the planes were bigger. It is funny what you recall from
your childhood. I was only six in 1939, but I still have a very good memory for a lot of trivia. & I do scrabble & crosswords to exercise my brain as well as play on the computer. I've only had mine for three years & I poke around into all the things that interest me, which covers A to Z & everything in between. Have just about finished the history of India/Pakistan, the partition etc & what a mess it was for a time. We have two lanuages officially
but also people from many lands just as has the U.S. Inida has some 47 different lanuages, plus all the various dialects. Sounds like a nightmare to me. We have some snow, just
enough tomake the roads trecherous, but if you slow down a bit it's not too bad
Hopefully we don't get a freezing rain
anytime soon as that makes the roads really bad. At least here in Brooks they plow the roads & remove the snow.
Our bigger city two hours east don't plow anything other than the main road so if you have to go to some of the side
roads & park, you get stuck no matter what kind of tires you have. I carry a shovel with a telescoping handle, which
has done yeoman duty at times. Hope everyone is fine. Got rid of my cold, which kind of slowed me down for three days, so now I'm okay Should have started taking more vitamin C, & that usually does the trick. Love to all Marianne

    {{forward to: André}}

    Dear Andre:

We hope you enjoyed the Golden Violin Poinsettia Christmas Plant. Daniel said that he would give it to you personally. My dear 92 year old mom and I loved the concert. You have a great God-given talent and we have loved your beautiful music, orchestra and great singers ever since we heard your first KPBS broadcast. In fact, I have all of your concerts on DVD and show them quite often to my friends in our private Viennese-like 50 seat Melody Theater.

It may interest you to know, I first started my singing career in 1965, in San Diego singing with an unknown tenor named Placido Domingo in a production of Tosca.
I have appeared in over 30 Operas since and have stared in many musicals such as The Student Prince, Carousel, King and I, the Desert Song, and the Vagabond King for the Starlight and Glendale Opera Companys.

As a well-trained Lyric-Spinto Tenor, my real love has been singing Viennese Operetta and I have sung in both Wien and Germany.

In one of my professional concerts in Los Angeles while singing the lead tenor in "A Salute to Rudolf Friml", my conductor David Forester said I reminded him of the late Tenor Mario Lanza, who he had personally worked with in Winged Victory in New York. I considered that compliment as quite an honor.

As you can see, I love beautiful music and great talent like yourself and your very gifted orchestra and company.

Having helped my dear deceased father, J. Howard Stein who was the General Manager and Producer of the San Diego Civic Light Opera Association (Starlight)and produced over 50 Broadway-like successfully artistic Shows for Starlight,I can appreciate what it takes to coordinate and produce a successfully artistist company such as yours.

I told your business manager about how my father invented a very unique Stop- Action Freeze System which froze the positions of the actors until the uncoming low flying airplanes flew by.
Not even the actors new when to freeze until they saw the red, yellow and green lights backstage. The 5500 plus a night audiences in Balboa Park loved the spontanious and sometimes humorous freezes as you can imagine.

Since I live in the area and graduated from San Diego State I came over to the KPBS studios to try to meet you and invite you to a personal showing of Die Graf Von Luxembourg in our private Melody Theater which my father built.

While waiting outside, I spoke to your manager, and he said you were running way behind schedule. I told him to say hello and left you a personal San Diego Chargers football hat. I hope you enjoy it and I hope to meet you sometime. Perhaps next year?

We would like to extend an open invitation to you and members of your company to enjoy a private showing at our very unique Melody Theater next time you visit San Diego.

    Until then,

    Best Wishes for Continued Success
and we want to wish all of you a very
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    Very Truly Yours,

    Jim and Barabra

      ANDR É RIEU

BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE ! ! !

This story 30 minutes after the show while it is fresh in my mind!

What a deal, what a show, what a showman, what an orchestra, what orchestration, what production, everything I ever wanted in show and more.

Rieu really lucky and of course multi talented, he gets to hear this orchestra and music every night. Rieu famous at 58 for his PBS funraiser concerts and multi extravaganzas all over the world brought it all to the spectacular Orleans Arena for one night only.

My personal theme, "so many symphonys to be heard so little time".... well tonight I heard the best of them all.

Obviously something of this magnitude would start on time...it did...77 minutes exactly a 15 minute intermissison and then 83 minutes in the second half, mulit encores and standing ovations.

With an empty stage Rieu and the orchestra entered thru the aisles onto the stage ....ladies in gorgeous colored gowns and the men in tuxes....playing 76 trombones.

It is called the Johan Strauss orchestra with that music and much much more to include 3 tenors 3 opera sopranos, Bolero, The Phantom of the Opera, Amazing Grace, America, classical themes and much much more. To the Blue Danube, couples danced, ladies danced, men danced , mothers danced with their children and one 70ish old man danced alone.....he was joined by a yound female stranger who gave hime a kiss at the end of their encounter.....it was lovely to see so much positive interaction.

This "thing" brought its own production to include videos on four screens, cameras on everybody, Christmas trees, baloons, snow flakes for White Christmas, boiling goulash, wine, roses and an orchestra that could land F15's on an aircraftcarrier or cure cancer...or do anything else they wanted. The orchestra was so good (with Rieu playing the violin, doing play by play and making jokes ) he hand little time to conduct! The audio flawless, never too loud, lighting and continuity perfect, the great Orleans Arena did not hurt any of this, 5000 of us lucky souls got to feel the experience. In the big picture somebody had to conceive the idea, the music the arrangements and produce the staff, just genius that's all!

A visul and audio masterpiece as good as anything I have ever seen....this includes you Sammy!

Thanks to George Chogyoji for sending this to us.

Hi, just noticed the comments on Andre's glasses from a week ago. Figured I'd answer here because I don't always check back to everything and maybe some of you don't either. Years ago the first time I saw Andre in glasses they were tortoise shell, (and he had on plaid shorts too! at a rehearsal) then frameless, now back to tortoise shell. He said that he can't get the contacts into his eyes and that he needs glasses for both near AND far. Remember in one soap neither he nor Teun had on glasses and couldn't read the sign on one of the containers? The frameless ones are not that noticeable if he decides to wear them on stage. I don't think we care what kind he wears as long as he keeps giving concerts.

It was a really nice photo of her in costume, when she was singing o mio babbino & holding Andre's hand. If you want a photo portrait of Andre it is available through the boutique & is a very nice picture. I note that there seems to be no calendar available, so I will recycle my old 2007, with months from a 2008 calendar, which has some nice photos of Alberta, but I also have a B.C magazine calendar which is really nice. I know a girl from Germany she stands in line for autographs after each concert , I asked her what she is doing with all those signatures, she said she sells them to André fans. Boy , I would never buy an autograph, that means absolutely nothing to me, but she makes money with it she said it helps to finance her concerts, haaaaaaa! Good Point Inge.  A couple of my favorite signed items are a sign made by Barb Henderson.  As a group we waived 'dancing notes' and a sign saying "Your Notes Make Us Happy" during a concert in Dallas 2005, and a booklet made by Lawrence Sudduth with Andre and all of the then Johann Strauss Orchestra members.  Andre saw the notes during the concert, and said, "Ah, yes, Fun",  and signed my note.  He then saw the booklet, even turning every page to look at it.  He liked it and signed it, as did many of the JSO.

So I don't think he cares to much.

Bill, it depends on the country.  Speaking in French, one would say the name differently than if they spoke German or English.  That was asked and answered during an interview in Australia.  André was as always, kind.

What I have noticed is that André never makes fun of, or insults anyone's pronunciation of his name. (I have seen him laugh about some of our attempts, and we laugh right along with him.)   André is always gracious to others.

At Home With Andre Rieu... wow.  I wonder if that is like our "Welcome To My World".  Or is it the DVD with the Limelight magazine?  Something new?  Gosh, we want it all!!!

Leo is a very keen gardener, and when you see Andre and him in the garden, they are like a pair of kids with new toys. We have only had the first 2 episodes of 6 so far, the remaining coming this week. So I think it is a local thing, but maybe Ovation will release it elsewhere in the future.

Pierre must be quite an incredible person in producing (correct term?) this massive show. I'm sure that André and Marjorie must be very proud of him. As we all are.

André seems to take on the "impossible"...he keeps on surprising us with special shows and special music and productions, special specials...isn't he an incredible, unique, intriguing and interesting person? And, of course, his whole family seems to be the same way.
I'm so happy they are on planet Earth...they do make life exciting and pleasant.
Just talking , Thanks for listening.

H i Bill. I didn't have much luck in your umlaut, etc. instructions. Word is not my favorite place - I always get frustrated there anyway. What I was wondering was wasn't it you who some months back told us about the website of Special Characters and told us how to use this website. I'm a whiz at making an "e" with an accent , and I think you also told how to make an "a" with an accent AND one didn't have to be in Word. It would be great if you could tell me when you did that (if it was you) and/or how to use the Special Characters. Thanks for all of your info. Marilyn S

I am with you Marilyn, those instructions are difficult.

I think Julie Spengler had the best tip on it . . .

Hold down the “alt” key. While holding that key down type in this order .. 0,2,3,3 , then release now you have an ‘é’

      alt, 0,2,2,3 = ß

So play around that way and you will find all sorts of accent marks. J

Yes, thanks Sally, that is how I do the accented é, but hadn't figured out the
ß. Thanks for that. I have forgotted how to do the accented "a", so will have to figure it out. I seem to remember you can figure stuff out by going to the Spec. Characters website, but I need to be refreshed on how to do that. I am off today and tomorrow.I plan to walk with my pups(if it stops raining, that is) and finishing up with Christmas. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Just to clarify the simple way to find ANY character you want:
Go to START, then ALL PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then SYSTEM TOOLS and finally CHARACTER MAP. Click on the character you want, click SELECT and see the number in the lower right corner. With curser where you want the character, hold down Alt key while typing in the number. You have to use the numbers on the right side of the keyboard, not those across the top. Release and the character should be in place.

To add an accent mark above any letter you need to press the < ctrl > key, not the < alt > key.

Press < ctrl > key & hold it down
          Press < ' > key & hold it down
          Release both keys
press < e > key, viola, an accent mark now appears above the < e >, or whatever letter key you want.

go here for instructions on adding umlats < ö   > or for using the german character ß

For all of these instructions to work you must follow the instructions in Word, then copy & paste the text in your work document into your reply on this blog.

Go here , for directions on all of the above symbols.

Hi Rodney. That DVD is available now on André's website. It is a wonderful concert. I and other have noticed that there is a momentary glitch in the first piece - just a few seconds but particularly noticeable. André's Helpdesk has been notified and has responded that they will be sending out corrected replacements (and we don't have to return the ones with the problem). However, the rest of the DVD is fine and is absolutely terrific.

Dear Friends. Thanks Terezie for the pics of Czech countryside. I didn't know there was so much color. Can't read the write-up, but the pics tell their own story. When Don(late husband & I went to Hawaii in 1974, I was struck
by the drab coloring of the buildings
except for the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, which is like pink cake icing!! Thanks to all who sent the reports & pics of the Toronto Stadium tour. It's the next best thing when you are too far away to attend. From the clips from Andre I think that there may be some performances on the west coast, but that could be in 2010 or later. Hope they choose Calgary as that I can do as
long as I am able to drive back & forth
Went to our church dinner last evening. It was a great feast, & enjoyed by all the attendees. Ate my fill, but not stuffed, even had room for dessert, so to-day it's back on short rations as I have to fight the weight gain, & there is so much food to nibble etc. Will go to my daughter's for Xmas dinner & watch the kids with their gifts. Andy is 11 yrs, so he's still has the excitement of a normal boy. They've had their tree up since Dec lst, & already
the gifts are piling up under the tree.
Son-in-law Bear is buying Kathy a new laundry pair as she has worn out the old set & the dryer has completely quit
A family of four creates quite a heap of laundry, & she washes no less than every second day. She keeps a very nice
house & she can cook very well too. When
she was 12, she wanted to learn, so I let her loose in the kitchen, & she made dinner for the family. She did it all herself, & I was so pleased with her effort. By the time she was 16, she had taken over the house, which was fine with me as I had gone back to work
    in Don's company as secretary/accountant
More to my liking as even to-day I do as little housework as I can get away with. Would rather do books, read, or play on the computer!! I get my nose in a good story & have to read until it's done, so of course nothing else gets done. There's only me so if I can tolerate the untidiness, it really doesn't bother anyone else. Have a young friend who will come next weekend & do what needs doing. He helps his Grandma, so I asked him if he would give me a hand & he said he would. I'm
such a pack-rat & save lots of stuff too
much, so will go through things, Clear out the clothes and pass them on to other people through the Salvation Army
I've got at least three of everything so it is time to lighten up. Hope everyone has a very Happy, Safe Holiday
& those who travel, safe journey, Love

I think I was the lucky one. As nothing has been posted by any of the fans I spent time with. in Toronto, I think they probably did not get out of Toronto on time. I flew up in a snowstorm and went to the Friday night concert, (I was going to only the one). I left the hotel at 1 p.m. and was lucky to get a 3 o'clock flight to Philadelphia and it was snowing heavily when the plane left. Had to hang around Philadelphia until 9, and was afraid the 9 o'clock would not take off because of the storm in Maine. But we took off and landed only 1/2 hour late. I hope Andre will take this into consideration if he does another extravaganza in Toronto. People travel so far to see him and it costs a lot of money if you have to stay longer especially for the people who go to numerous concerts a year. I thought at the time the concerts were announced that December is awfully "iffy." If you've looked at the sites you know that there were serious problems before the Friday concert. I don't know how many people made it to the Saturday concert. Hope some of you are back home by now. My next concert is not until Bridgeport. Hope every is safe.

I think I am finally catching up on the concert reports & news. This has been a most unusual week for us and several thousand others in our surrounding areas. We were not really thinking about much of anything but survival! The ice storm moved in on the 8th, by the 9th the ice was so thick the trees and power lines started going down, as they broke under the weight of the ice. Outside it sounded like artillery fire and the towns quickly became dark and cold. Our neighborhood got some power back a couple of days later, but we had lost our electric meter and weatherhead, which had to be repaired first. That puts you on a long waiting list of any electrician.3 days later we did get one to come to the house, but only because we'd been a previous customer. Now the wait for electric inspection and restoration of power! We were without power for a total of 5 days, inside house reached temps of low 40's, outside temps were anywhere from low 20's to lowest at 13. Our heat source was a gas range in the kitchen, our light source a kerosine lamp and many candles. Our car was in garage but we couldn't get out for a big tree limb across the driveway. Didn't matter because all available shelters filled up immediately, all available motels, with power filled up, so we stayed put as any family or friends had no power either. Those that did already had several "guests". Besides we wre better off than many, we could have hot soup and coffee and hot water. We slept with our layered clothing and jackets and hats on our heads. I can say "winter camping" is not my favorite thing to do! BUT, WE SURVIVED! We lost a freezer full of food, we lost power and trees, but we never lost the most important things. Sunday afternoon, at 3:15 pm, Santa arrived, wearing a hard hat, and he was from Tennessee! He had us hooked back up in an hour. As of now, there are only about 300 people still without power, in our town, but still thousands in Oklahoma. It was rough, but it could have been worse. The weatherman had predicted 6-14" of snow and that is just what we didn't need! Thankfully (& I'm sorry to say), it missed us and headed on up to the northwest. They got the snow we didn't need, (guess it had to go somewhere).
From what I gather all who went to Toronto made it safely back home and for that I am thankful too.
Here I have my Wunderland dvd and can't watch it yet, but I will! So many things to catch up on, and I will!
Even though the Grinch hit our town, stealing generators from those who had them, breaking into the dark homes & businesses, trying to ruin Christmas for many, he did not succeed as the spirit of the people will prevail. It's been hard for so many but I hope we will all remember, as the Grinch did when he tried to steal Christmas,
"Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. "Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

All in all it could have been much worse,I've been through a similar experience, when the town's gas lines broke, but I was much younger then. The temps were in the single digits then and we had a small electric heater for warmth. This time the coldest nite temp was 13. my friends & I were talking and we decided we'd much rather go through this than the wildfires and floods. We've been busy chopping and clearing all the broken tree limbs from our yard. We're getting too old for this nonsense!!! Finally, today, I got some cookies made, listened to Andre's Christmas music. If you want a good, easy candy-cooky thing those are great. Well, it's off to the shower. Oh yes, almost forgot, our cable went out twice yesterday, guess they finally got it fixed now. I hate it when I can't reach out and touch someone!!!

Dear Friends. So glad you weathered the ice storm. I remember one from the west coast & the power lines were as thick as a man's muscular arm. We were without power for 5 days but also had a chinook, which meant warm temps above 40 degress so it was tolerable. The eastern part of the country has had very horrid weather, but so far the West has escaped the downturn. We will get at least one bad storm over the winter, but we do seem to survive, without too many terrible things happening to folks. You can dress for cold, but we've not much defense against
wildfires & floods, so we must be thankful for what we have. Can't stay on the blog too much as the right hand is a mess. Numb, achey, painful & asll of those things. I had damaged my left years ago by crushing it is the wringer,

    Hi!
Unfortunately I wrote in twice and both times it seemed my notes did not take so I'm trying again. The concert and the dinners meeting new fans was just the experience I expected it to be. Other than the weather I would do this again and again for Andre. Saturday's performance was super awesome and such beauty took my breath away. It was fun meeting a couple of performers and conversing with them, they were so friendly and so sweet. Included was the highlight meeting new fans both at Saturday night's dinner and Friday night's dinner. Thank you Jeanine Ann, Ruth Morgan and Virginia Baker for a memorable evening and there will be more that I'm looking forward to. With fan's like you guys in all your support for Andre and each other which I experienced, Andre will always be successful as far as success can take him because his fans will always be there. Jeanine, I'm glad you arrived home safely as everyone else and thank you!

Will get the link for you and post it in a few minutes.  It is on my other computer.

The concerts for next year are already pledged through PBS in Jacksonville, Miami, Fl and Reading, Pa.  You must contact them as soon as you hear he is coming to that area.  He usually does the same cities every year with a few variations here and there.  The schedule is on Andre's web site under "Agenda".  Usually they will give you the information about contacting the venue.  Which concerts are you interested in?  Once you decide contact the PBS station (if it is a PBS pledge - it may be ticketmaster) and ask them about tickets for that particular venue.

Hope this helps.  Be back with that link.  Hugs to you

Music does heal a lot of hurt, & Andre can be pleased that so many of us have gone past being fans into being friends & caring for each other. It really is quite amazing, at least I think so. I hope Benny recovers from his illnes, and Bob & Judy as well. Don't quite know who they are, but still can send a prayer for their recovery. We'd do this after the regular days' work was done & we'd work until dark. It
was quite the endeavor & we had fun doing the work. We had a dog & cat & they had a dog so we had a great time.
We were all in our early 20ties so we tackled any job, except the plumbing &
our other good friends John & Nettie had
the plumbing shop so we traded work & each bought our own materials, so it really worked out well. We had bought our lot with all the material for the house, with a lot of extra, so we lined the walls inside & out with cedar siding
& still didn't use up all the material.
We had electric radiant heat & were never cold as the house was extra insulated & windows caulked for wind & weather. It was very cosy!!. When we left to move to Calif, I cried all the way to Seattle & then got over that. We put our hearts into that very first house & any succeeding home has never had the same hold on me. Expect my daughter shortly. They have a satellite & they keep changing the codes so they get them off my computer which will download and theirs' won't as one port needs to be replaced. When I began with the computer, I was so scared to do anything, but I finally reached out
& have never looked back. As long as the flags are green, the sites are safe but if they're red, I just don't go there, so I've never been plagued with viruses or slowdown unless my hard drive gets too full & I've been taught how to clean up the disc & defrag. Bear
can't figure out how I get by so well but I think it is the make of computer
which is Dell. I've had it three years

The 'Andre Rieu In Wonderland' DVD is just terrific. It's expensive, but worth every cent. The DVD is in Dutch, but has selectable subtitles. And, it's the only concert DVD that Andre is shrunk to a height of only 8 inches.

Wasn't that funny, about andre shrinking? I loved the whole dvd. As for Pierre and Suzan, I don't know anything. I guess only they do and they haven't told me a thing!

What's the latest on Pierre and Suzan?

They have not been together for the past six months. I believe it was Pierre's current girlfriend I saw with him in the hotel lobby in Toronto. Their kisses certainly were not platonic. I feel sad, because it was like watching a fairy tale develop. Of course we don't know what really happened but it's still sad to think it didn't work out.

Hi Virginia I had heard they broke up in the summer and that is so sad.  I don't know any details but I guess it just did not work out for them.  BTW I still have the chocolate violin, I hate to eat it because it looks so nice but I love chocolate.  Thank you again for the treat.  It was a great weekend.   Hugs

    Hi Jeff, Re. Signed violin
I just looked at you post about the signature of Andre on the violin advertised on e bay. The photo is of my violin that was put up on the net, but the violin I purchased from a uni student by the name of Nat that had the violin signed in Sydney by Andre. The violin is at this moment been framed in a cabinet and was to be given to my Father as a Christmas present but it won't be ready until mid January. I will post the finished product on this site so everyone can have a look. My father still does not know about it so I will hang on to it until his birthday in March. But we did have a great Christmas day watching Christmas with Andre Rieu and new years eve punch. I was even wearing my Andre Rieu Crew shirt for the occasion. I got my tickets to the Brisvagas concert on Dec 3, 2008 and I'll be taking my dad and a few friends, only 11 1/2 months to go.

Merry Christmas to all the Andre fans family and peace be with you in 2008.

Hi Margaret, thanks for the information on Limelight and Woman's Day.  I had heard that Andre would be a regular contributor to Limelight beginning in January.  That is very nice of you to offer to send the magazines to us.  What is the Woman's Day article like, are there photos?

I hope you have a wonderful New Year Margaret and that much happiness will be coming your way.  It will be coming your way in about 321 days    Hugs

Hi there my buddy Jeff, no I haven't heard a thing about Benny nor do I know about a DVD of Toronto but I surely hope so.  It was so wonderful.  My report is on the way.  It is four pages long and took me three hours to compose.  There was so much going on and I didn't want to leave anything out.  Wish you could have been there at the dinner and concerts too.   Hugs

We are looking forward to Andre's concert in Melbourne next November. We
have ourtickets for the Saturday night cencert. If possible please (we hope he will) play
"Toreador" from "Carmen". You will be amazed, gob-smacked and
bewildered by the reaction of the Melbourne audience. You will not get
the same reaction in any other capital city in Australia. Kind regards

I am so happy today, I probally could sing like a 'lark' ( better put in the ear plugs ) Happiness to All....

Dear Friends, This will be a New Years'
wish to all. May 2008, bring health, wealth & happiness to all, with lots of
Andre concerts. With the big stadia tours, some of us will likely have to watch vicariously, sort of over the shoulders of the JSO, Sopranos, Tenors & guests, I do hope there will be at least one dvd from down under, but if it is a composite of all the venues, that too, would be great to have that as a souvenir. From what I understand, the Toronto concerts will be made into a dvd, with a lot of the preparation, which is a show all by itself. It is one huge undertaking & they were able to pull it off & on time even with a balky generator. The lighting takes a huge amount of power, but with out it, the concert would fall short of Andre's
need for perfection, which we can all appreciate. Happy New Year everyone, & to those who are ailing, I hope your health improves to the point of being bearable. Have to wait until Feb to find out what can be done with this right hand, Now it not only hurts, aches, but burns like a scald. Not a whole lot of fun, but I will suck it up & carry on, because I enjoy my message. both sent & received. Love Marianne

      Hi Marianne,
I am so sorry your hand still is hurting you.  You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery.  Is there any kind of medication that you can rub on your hand to ease the burning feeling.  Maybe something that can get beneath the skin.  I know some of the creams have Lidocain (sp) and that does help.  I am surprised you must wait until February to see what can be done.  Just take care of yourself and I hope it will heal soon for you.   Love and hugs,

Dear Friends. Thanks for the prayers Jeanine Ann. What I have with this hand is carpal tunnel, plus quite a bit of nerve damage, & hopefully once I see the nerve specialist, he will recommend the surgery & it will turn out the way my left hand recovered after that surgery. Also I'm older so I may not heal as well. Quite a few folks in the building have had a very strange flu bug
including me. You just feel drained &
would rather sleep most of the time. One
just seems to run out of steam. Hope I'll perk up after I have my coffee etc.
It sure isn't like me to want to do nothing. Also think the really cold weather has an effect on us seniors, Golden Years, what a misnomer, when you're just wearing out, but it is better than rusting out. Still 3 days til 2008, & the voting on the sites will
re-open. Am also anticipating the new Ball drop in Time's Square. It's been up-dated for the 100th anniversary. Iget the TV from Detroit 2 hours early so I can see the New Year come in, and still get to bed at a reasonable time.
    Love to all Marianne
