For the first time EVER – themed André Rieu CD compilations!

André’s Choice is a new series of compilations especially chosen by André. Eight titles, each containing 15 tracks, traverse a wide variety of subjects – moods  (Happiness), nature (Seasons), occasions (Weddings), genres (Marches) as well as music familiar through the movies and music to accompany you while you cook.

TRACK LISTING

España Cani
Heigh-Ho (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
Spanish March
Florentine March
March of the Aviators
Blaze away
Egyptian Marsch
Triumphal March ( Aïda)
Persian March
Oh when the Saints
Seventy-six trombones
The Washington Post
The Stars and stripes forever
Radetzky March
Marche Militaire

Far from having militaristic or stentorian overtones, Marches are a lot of fun for André and this collection brings together some of his most oft-performed in concert. Though many of them have been composed by the Strauss family, they pay tribute to various parts of the world – Florence, Spain, Persia and Egypt, for instance. America blazes in with Stars and Stripes, The Washington Post and 76 shining trombones, and the proceedings are rounded off with a rousing Marche Militaire by Schubert.

Few things are as beautiful as the fall of an autumn leaf and the changing hues of a distant landscape. Nature and the seasons are beautifully captured in André’s Seasons, from the tales whispered by the Vienna Woods, to the beautiful spring blossoms from Japan (Sakura), and Ceylon (the Lakmé “Flower Duet”, forever entrenched in our minds thanks to its use in the British Airways commercials!). Roses get pride of place too! Birds flit across the landscape in the form of village swallows (Strauss) and gliding swans (Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns) to the mythical Australian ‘thorn bird’. No “seasons” anthology would be complete without Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, from which we here the quiet musings of Winter, and the CD is rounded off with a Christmas perennial – Winter Wonderland.

España Cañï

Beginning with the most global of all waltzes – Johann Strauss’s Music of the Spheres, this CD is a snapshot of the many lands André’s music has taken him to, and to which he pays tribute. The Girl from Ipanema and Granada are two Latin perennials. Italiana is a medley of Respighi tunes, and La Montanara and Vieni sul mar pay further tribute to Italy. The French medley beginning with La Vie en rose brings three favourites from that land. Ketèlbey’s In a Persian Market is a tribute to the orient, complete with bazaar and colourful costumes. Far from home – a reworking of the central section of Dvorák’s symphony ‘From the New World’ introduces a sense of nostalgia and longing, as does the following track, Scarborough Fair, made all the more so by the beautiful voice of Mirusia weaving in and out of André’s violin. And there’s a tribute to André’s new adopted homeland, of course, with I Still Call Australia Home.

The movies opened up a whole new world for classical music and – like it or not – they put classical music on a pedestal that it mightn’t otherwise have enjoyed. Nothing wrong with that… a tender on-screen kiss, longing for one’s homeland, a character’s innermost feelings which neither words nor actions might reveal, or the sense of euphoria at the end of a film when you’re rooted in your seat and the end credits roll through. Fifteen films, every one of them hits, every one of them with an unforgettable piece of music are here included.

Intermezzo Sinfonico from Cavalleria Rusticana
My heart will go on
Åse’s Death: Peer Gynt Suite (Grieg)

The Last Rose
Amazing Grace

Music has an amazing power to heal. It’s something André’s fans have brought home to him time and time again. It can lift our spirits when we’re sad or lonely, when we’re leaving something so precious to us behind (remember the scene in The Sound of Music when Captain Von Trapp mesmerises his family with his rendition of Edelweiss?) or, indeed, when we’re helpless at the loss of a dear one and no amount of physical comfort will do. It’s then that the spiritual power of music comes to the fore. Thus came about the idea for this CD, built, largely, from music that André’s fans have told him time again have helped mend and repair, comfort and guide.

One of André’s favourite hobbies – in those rare spare moments! – is cooking. This album was put together because there’s nothing nicer than having some energetic music wafting around you and mingling in the air with the aromas of your culinary efforts. Morgenblätter (Morning Papers) is ideal as you think about your morning cup of coffee and your breakfast – it’s ritualistic, almost! Eljen a Magyar is bound to help you produce your best Goulash yet! Tea for Two is for tea for two, Wine, Woman and Song will help that glass of wine go down all the smoother (…if help is indeed needed!) and Funiculi Funicula will bring that extra vigour to your pasta tossing!

Ask an André Rieu fan the single feeling most engendered when he/she experiences his music and the majority will say – “It makes me happy”. And so with that in mind, André decided to put together an album that would bring sheer happiness to his listeners. And, indeed, music that brings him happiness. Night after night he performs the perennial Strauss waltz The Beautiful Blue Danube and it never fails to inspire him. Off to a rollicking start with Strauss & Co, we are reminded of our Wonderful World, are introduced to the beautiful Limburg district from whence André hails, we lie in green fields and watch the clouds pass by as we’re seduced by Greensleeves or the ‘Vilja-lied’ from Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and we finish with an exuberant shout of communal joy with the immortal ‘Hallelujah’ from Handel’s Messiah.

TRACK LISTING

Trumpet Voluntary

Méditation
One Hand, One Heart
Air (Bach)

Caro Mio Ben (Dearest, Believe Me)
Amigos para siempre (Friends for life)

Wedding March

A special occasion and the sound of André’s music go hand in hand. Or was that hand in heart…? And with that in mind, André went into the studio to record a special version of the Bernstein classic One Hand, One Heart for this album. Then realising he’d never recorded Mendlessohn’s Wedding March he decided to arrange and record that too, complete with choir. So there’s music with which to walk down the isle (Trumpet Voluntary – receiving its first CD release here!), music that floats down the balcony and through the aisle (Ave Maria, Air, Méditation and the ethereal Concerto pour une voix) as rings are exchanged. Music as one stares into the dark(?!) eyes of another and above all music to make that pledge of Friends for Life.

When I look at my piano, I can still see my father sitting there, calling, "Sally come on over here and let's play a duet". I loved it. My father & I would sit side by side, playing our tunes. He playing well, me playing like a little girl who just started lessons. But when each song was done, he would tell me how good I sounded, how much I had improved and I would get a hug.

I dearly wish my father were still alive, so I could take him to one of Andre's concerts. I know he'd get a kick out of it, and of course, have to waltz with (he named me Sally), Little Princess.

Fantastic idea to give a gifts. Here is a suggestion to take it one step further. Does Andre have wine, red or white with his label on it? Put some with a CD and add some scented or unscented candles and voila, you have a gift for an anniversary, wedding, etc.

How about a gift for a sister or mother. Place one of the CD's in a basket array tied with ribbon. Inside contains seasalt bath, bath candles, soap, body lotion, pedicure items, the list is endless for ideas that would be suitable.

I was just thinking since Andre lived in Europe, he maybe has a winery or owns lands that grows grapes?

Maybe Andre, Marjorie, Pierre, and Marc might like these ideas.

Well, I know that I have most of these songs, but I don't have the beautiful art that Marc has painted, nor do I have the selection of music that go with the mood of André.
All of this music that André has selected for these cd's are wonderful, it would be nice to have them in a nice "choice" selection. It's also nice to have the words to explain the chosen selection.
I think it's very beauitful. I love the titles of the cd's to go with the mood of the music.

There is so many positive things about having "André's Choice" cd's, and I can't think of one reason why not to have it. I will definitely purchase it, if I have the opportunity to do so, and I cannot imagine not having that opportunity.

Welcome Moderator Piano!! Nice to see you! Interesting name, but I love it. Set aside the violin, I believe that one of the most beautiful musical "instruments" is the piano. And one of my favorite pieces of music that is in André's selections is
"Piano concert Nr. 50 p. 73 Adagio (Immortal Beloved, Main Theme) from the cd "Romantic Paradise". I listen to it everyday and I close my eyes and smile when Jo Huijts plays that beautiful piano.

I was away this weekend and could listen to André as much as I wanted to, day and night it was playing. I burn my cd's to fit what I love to listen to, and it's always the calming, relaxing, soothing music choices that I love.
I need all the help I can get, and when I'm driving, soothing music has the opposite affect on me than it does with Sally ...I need it to calm me. I would just get too tense if I were to listen to the more upbeat songs. I don't fall asleep because I love the music so much that I "really" listen to it.
Ok, you've probably had enough of my rambling on here, so I will see you later! Have a great week everyone.

Where do you live Constance?  I am sure he would be in your area sometime.  Hope you feel better soon.  Will keep praying for you.  Hugs

THe "choice" CDs are available at:

I have never ordered from this site so I am NOT recommending it, but they do have all of the CDS.

Does anyone know if the CDs will play on American CD players? or are they like the DVDs(PAL vs NTSC)?

Hi Joanne, these CD's are available at that site as a pre-order for July 28.  The release date is July 26.  Just a note as far as prices go, this site has each CD for $18.00 each so that is $18.00 X 8.

I have never had any trouble with CD's playing on American CD players and I have several imports.  Thanks for the information.   Hugs

IS $18 US Dollars? Australian Dollars? Plus Shipping? Anyone know?

Sally I would imagine that would be Australian dollars since they are being sold there.  I don't think it would include shipping.  You could get an International Money Order payable in Australian dollars.  We would pay less.  I can get a link to Hans's Music Store.  Hugs

Hi Jeanine,Thanks for answering so promptly. I have never had any problem with CDs either, but the DVDs drive me nuts. I think the way to overcome it is to have a player for both Pal and Ntsc,,
Appreciate your answering my question so promptly. All of you are fantastic!

Hi everyone. CDs play anywhere. Some DVD players in the US are universal also. That's why I buy the PAL versions of the DVDs because the quality is better than our NTSC versions. I paid $50 for my DVD player years ago and it just coincidentally plays both versions. At the time I didn't know enough to ask. Now I do. Andre's boutique people used to write to me when I ordered a PAL version to make sure that's what I wanted. By now they know.

Are there any suppliers in the U.S. for Andre's Choices - 8 discs? If a CD cost 18.00 Australian how much is that in American?

Hi Roberta, I have not heard of any suppliers in America but we may have to wait until the release date.  Australian dollars would be a little less but I have not figured it out.  With shipping it would probably equal out.  Keep checking with us in the event we find any information on the release.  Hugs

Roberta, the cost equates to US$140.75.
I know everyone is hanging out for these CDs, but I am sure if you can wait about 3 months (or definatly before Christmas) these will be released in a Boxed Set and you will only pay about US$55 to US$65 for the set. The 6CD set 100 Most Beautiful Melodies only cost me $29.95 and I saw it last week for $19.95. I guess it is up to how impatient you are. There are vast differences in the price of DVDS/CDS in Australia depending where you shop. Andres latest DvD "The Best of Andre Rieu" is selling anywhere between $49.95 down to $29.95, thats a big difference. I find the most consistently cheapest retailer is a National company called JB Hi-Fi.
      http://www.jbhifi.com.au/ Cheers to you.
