Andre and Melissa Venema
In December 2005, Melissa auditioned at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, when it was decided that she immediately get lessons from Frits Damrow. Frits is international trumpeter, solotrompettist at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and he has several textbooks for trumpet attributed to his name.
Frits led Melissa to the entrance, on 22 April 2006, for the Young-Talentenklas of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Melissa has passed that test and it is in September 2006, in addition to her ordinary school, began her classical studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where they also were less aware of Frits Damrow. Meanwhile there it was also determined that Melissa made very good progress.
Furthermore Melissa will regularly appear as soloist in various parts of the country with the known Zaanse organist Dub de Vries. It provides concerts with both classical and religious music. In addition, they shall appear with him sometimes with different choirs in the country. Melissa plays among other things, together with famous artists such as Liselotte Rokyta, Martin Virtue, Carla Leurs and Yta van der Zwaag.
Melissa, in the summer of 2006, participated in a summer project in Oostzaan. The composer Erik Waerts selected only Melissa for an eight and a half minute solo from the song “Concerto for Trumpet and Youth Band”. She was by far the youngest. The entire concert is on a CD. Erik Waerts has sent Melissa a personal card that read: "Thanks for the wonderful performance of my trompetconcert! Good luck with your (trumpet) future".
Melissa also auditioned for the famous semi-professional Gelders Orchestra Fanfare selected and presented on January 13, 2007 to this very successful solo orchestra played in the major sports in Wez.

A wonderful article. Congratulations Melissa on your career! It is wonderful to read about young people becoming more and
more involved in creative endeavours.
The pictures are wonderful, especially the one with Melissa and Andre. I am sure her family and friends, as well as her educators must be proud.
All the best in the world for you Melissa. Keep on playing!

Thanks so much for this Jeanine Ann. Melissa sounds like a special and talented young woman! Congratulation to Melissa on her success and appearing in concert with Andre Rieu & his Johann Strauss Orchestra. (I play trumpet too! oh ok...so I don't play very well, but I do play)
I played the trumpet from eighth grade through high school. Don't think I've picked one up for many years. My brother still plays well. Haven't played the piano for years either but think I would do better on that at this point in time.
This is so cool. We could have our own Brass Band!
I hope she has a fantastic career with her trumpet and I hope we will be hearing from her very soon.
Talent is so wonderful, musical talent is exceptional.
I never played anything except the radio, cd's, dvd's, turntables,
well...you get my point.
Thanks Jeanine Ann for this article. The pictures are wonderful!
verhip! Sissi kwam ook nog even langs met haar Franz Joseph. Pracht en praal in het kwadraat, daar bij het superevenement.
