Hi Andrea, I guess only André knows the reason for that, but there are several places he will not be appearing next year, Florida being just one, but I imagine he has his own schedules worked out for whatever reason. Maybe in another year he will return to Dallas.

      Hi Andrea: LTNS {{HUGS}}

I wonder why not the Nokia in Dallas too. It is a great venue. I noticed this year Andre will be at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Those lucky people will have Real Seats! Nice comfortable theater seats, with a good view from every seat.
I like the Nokia better than arena seating, where the seats are on flat ground and someone very tall wearing a hat always sits in front of you.

Hi Jeff, I saw that program.  Would love to have it.  I bid on it and got to 90 some dollars and quit and still was not high bidder.  Someone has a big price on it and I cannot afford too much with the concerts coming up.  It looks like André's signature.  I don't know who the bidder is.  Take care buddy.

Hi all,  sometime ago someone was talking about Marjorie's book and that the Aussie copy was a little different from the American copy.  I bought it from the Big W just because the cover is one of my favorite pictures of André and because it was said that it differed a little from the one I have.  I didn't go through it page by page but I did notice the quality of the paper and the photos is a little better than the Aussie book and has a discography in the back.  Does anyone remember what else was different?  Since I want to re-read it I will read the new book.  It has the same nice colored photos as the previously published book.  Thanks and hugs

$1250 to meet master fiddler Andre Rieu

          Article from: Herald Sun

          Cameron Adams

          October 10, 2008 12:00am

MELBOURNE fans are being charged $1250 to meet multi-millionaire Dutch violinist Andre Rieu.

And that's just the starting price on a Ticketmaster auction for a Rieu meet-and-greet package.

The auction is offering backstage access for 100 cashed-up fans per night at Rieu's three Telstra Dome shows next month.

The pricey backstage tickets do not include entry to the actual concert, where the best seats sell for $286 and the cheapest for $99.

Industry sources say the backstage passes alone could generate over $100,000 at each concert.

Despite high overheads due to his lavish on-stage production and huge entourage, Rieu's Australian tour in November/December is set to be one of the year's most profitable.

Sources say his three Telstra Dome shows alone have generated over $15 million in ticket sales.

Rieu's backstage package includes a meeting with the 59-year-old and his orchestra after each Australian concert, as well as "drinks, canapes and a signed picture of you and Andre Rieu".

"I'd walk over hot coals to meet him but I can't afford to pay that kind of money," devoted Rieu fan Lesley Skilney of Glenhuntly said yesterday.

"I don't know who's getting the money from this but they must be making money hand over fist.

"For the true fans who have forked out for tickets, which aren't cheap anyway, it's a bit steep to expect them to pay a minimum of $1250 to meet him."

Ms Skilney has already spent hundreds buying tickets to each of Rieu's three Melbourne shows, as well as an array of his CDs and DVDs.

Ticketmaster's meet-and-greet auctions end on October 16, with the highest bidders to be notified by email.

    Hello Everyone,

Sorry about not being here more often, but we are just getting over hurricane season here in Louisiana again. After we got through with the storms and got things back to operational, I took Mom and Dad to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee for a little break. The weather was beautiful, but we were too early to see the leaves change. We were more interested in beating the crowds.

Hope everyone is well. Has anyone else pre-ordered the new Andre DVD of Maastricht Part 2? I placed my order in the middle of last month and I'm anxious to get it. When I placed my order, the website indicated that it would be available by the end of September. They must have hit a delay because it still shows not available. I'm too excited and not patient enough. I need some new Andre.

        Dear Shirley and Kati,

Thanks so much for the information on the new tenor. He has very impressive credits and alot of them. The conservatory at Maastricht must produce some incredibly talented musicians. I guess people still study music seriously in Europe. Judging by the decline of qualified musicians in churches in America, we just aren't producing as many (at least not in my "neck of the woods".

I was just down in Metairie, Louisiana which is a suburb of New Orleans yesterday afternoon. One of their biggest department stores just recently finished the remodel that was required afternoon Katrina damage in 2005. Things are slowly coming back. Gulfport, Mississippi is slowly coming back too. They had WAY more damage than New Orleans.

        Take care all. God Bless.

About storm damage, it takes so long to rebuild doesn't it? Has Gulfport rebuilt it's library yet? I remember a report that it was damaged so bad it would have to be rebuilt. Also I agree, it seemed to be much more destroyed than New Orleans. These storms and flood and fires are certainly no respectors of persons.

That is another thing I do not understand.  I'm not old enough to claim to have walked to school 12 miles in the snow, but I do recall having to be at school by 8:30 am, and not getting out until 3:30 pm.  During our school time, we had music.  Everyone had music.  Even in elementary school, we had band & choir if we wanted to join. And we were still required to achieve good grades in all our classes.  But by the time my younger one was in high school, I was paying over a thousand dollars a year for band.

            Hello Shirley and Sally Ann,

It's so good to hear from both of you today. I hate being away from the site for these long stretches, but that is just life sometimes. Caring for my parents takes alot of my time, but it's worth it.

I don't know if Gulfport has rebuilt its library yet or not. Gulfport's worst damage was right along the beach. Higway 90 or "Beach Boulevard" was lined with beautiful homes that were a joy to look at. My home town is only 70 minutes from Gulfport. Everything along the beach was destroyed. My first choir director that I played for at church is currently serving First Baptist of Gulfport. Katrina destroyed their massive facility right on the beach. They just finishing rebuilding Phase 1 of their re-location to north of the Interstate 10. We love to take day trips over there. The mall is finally reopened and the Dillards store that took most of the damage has been completely restored and is beautiful. The Lakeside store in Metairie (New Orleans) was only partially open until just recently. I have mixed feelings about New Orleans. It is flood prone and I hate to see this happen again. Gulfport is slower coming back. But those folks in Mississippi have worked hard and not complained like those in New Orleans have. Sadly, the crime is New Orleans is just really bad. I live less than an hour away and I'm now scared to go downtown.

Regarding the music in the schools, you are absolutely right about the cuts. We all had music regularly. The place I notice the lack of music ability is in churches. I started playing the organ for my church when I was nineteen. There was simply no one interested in playing. We had several good pianists, but no organists. I took it on and learned over time and 20 years later I am still playing. I see very few young people pursuing music or voice training. Boys want to play guitar or drums in a band and that's it. I hate seeing the art of playing and seeing falling by the wayside. Our choirs have gone from 45 or more people to 20+ over the years.

Hope this information is helpful regarding recovery in Louisiana and Mississippi. Maybe things will get better. One thing is for sure--there will be less people living on the water fronts.

Before I forget, I noticed on Andre's website that Ronald Gerards is no longer listed among the orchestra. He was the tall young man that played in the percussion section with Marcel. Does anyone know what happened to him or why he left? I really liked him for some reason.

Well I better run. Great to hear from you ladies. Take care and God Bless.

Hi Macky, is there a story behind your email address?  I don't want to list it here for security reasons but I was just wondering.

It is good to have you back again.  I wish too more young people would take up music.  It is such a wonderful thing to pursue.  We have several organists in church and now they are looking for anyone who plays instruments such as guitar and violin but so far no takers.  I only started violin in January so I am still a beginner and it gets harder every week I go, especially when you are older.  In school we had piano and voice and that was it.  I took both but then didn't keep it up over the years so that was a big mistake.

That is too bad about New Orleans.  I think most big cities are like that.  I know where I was born in Lancaster, Pa. I would not walk downtown anymore.    Even in the smaller city of Lebanon which is much closer I would be scared to walk around.  It is really sad.

Come back again soon Macky  and have a wonderful week.  God Bless you also. Hugs

                Hi Jeanine Ann,

It's goo to hear from you. There is not a story per se behind my email address. The number is simply my year of birth and co-incidentally my height in feet then inches. I am rather tall. The Titanic part is just from my interest in the subject since doing a project on it in elementary school. I studied it rather intently when I was young. It is a fascinating piece of history. I love the movies about it too. All of them.

I hate to see the lack of young people interested in real music. But when you hear what they listen to these days, it is no wonder they are not interested inn music. Music requires discipline and practice and many young people don't want the work. When I first got into to piano, I didn't like it. I got interested in it during my early teen years. I had several friends that were very good. They were playing for church by age 14 and they were accomplished too. My home town is a college town and we had one of the best music schools in the US during the 1930's through the 1960's. Any church in town could easily get a trained musician. Those days are over. Many churches go for the praise band things anyway. Even Baptists (which I am one) don't always use the organ anymore. But I couldn't go to church without the organ. I have been in awe of it since I was 4 years old. It's so majestic. On one of Andre's Christmas DVD's, Jo plays the organ in a piece or two. He and Frank both play the organ. That Frank is EXTREMELY talented and I still miss Jo.

New Orleans may be OK around the French Quarter and tourist areas during the day, but I just don't feel comfortable being alone down there. Alot of business moved to Baton Rouge after Katrina because it is away from the water. New Orleans is surrounded by it.

Hope you have a wonderful week too. God Blessing and Hugs back at cha'!!!

I have no clue whether that is true or not, as I have absolutely no idea how much money it costs to move this palace around, etc. I have said from time to time that I wondered how he could have made money with the Palace, what with shipping, hiring extra people, housing and feeding 500+ people etc. And of course they have salaries and transportation. We know he makes money but a lot of it gets circulated and recirculated I believe. They probably make pretty good money on the performances close to home. Anyway, there is enough left over to live in a palace, etc. Not that he doesn't deserve it. He does deserve it because he works very very hard.

I will be very interested to see what happens in the future with Andre and PBS. PBS may have the prices up so high that it will be through Ticketmaster. That means a big job for someone to make sure we know before everybody else!

You know a lot of the PBS people I contacted asking about tickets were very fast to tell me that A.R. Productions were asking for the higher prices.  I don't know if I believe that.  One lady I was communicating with said she would have more info on the tickets by the end of the week but had already given me a price (not one I was going to) and then at the end of the week she said the prices have changed and they were not lower.  I know Andre does spend a lot, it just stands to reason with all the things that Sally listed.  I remember Andre saying on one interview that if his stadium tour does fail "I will be broke".  The interviewer had asked him what would happen if they are not a big success.  Now Andre laughed when he said it but I feel sure he meant it.  I really think that Andre would make more with less elaborate concerts and more affordable for more people.  Even though his concerts are always quality, there is something to be said about quantity.  But like Sally said, that is Andre's dream and he deserves it and I hope and pray it is very successful for him.  The ticket prices are high but not that bad if we save all year but the meet and greets could and should be much lower so all the "died in the wool" fans like us can get to meet him.  Millions have seen him on stage but few get to really meet him and shake his hand.  This is my one dream but not all dreams come true for all people so if only one can come true I hope it is Andre's.

To those who can afford it, do so, to those that really can't, please don't. I think it's the champagne lifestyle on a beer budget that has gotten a lot of people in trouble.

I think the $1250 price tag is way over the top. The genuine Andre fan can not afford that so naturally will not be there. I have no doubt that in Melbourne they will sell the 300 tickets. They will be bought by "want to be seens" using the Corporate Credit Card. After sucking on Champagne and Canapes, posing for the photo with "Andre..somebody", all will be promptly forgotten. Really makes the whole thing a "SHAM". I really have to wonder how much the Rieu Organization has to do with this. I think the whole thing is way out of step. $1250 will sponsor 3 children for a whole year in many parts of the "Real World".

Maybe I am just making a big thing out of nothing.  Just wondering why.

He did say he might start going back to smaller venues. My favorite shows were in the smaller venues, beautiful theaters, etc. The experience of the palace was not to be missed but a real theater (not a hockey arena) takes the cake as far as I am concerned. Up close and personal is what I like best.

Up close and personal is always best, I agree. I hope it's true that André will go back to smaller venues, it's totally more personal and enjoyable that way. Although I must say, that I would love to see the Schönbrunn Palace set just one time. I imagine the thought and effort that went into this would make it very rewarding to see.

Why the huge price? I cannot imagine why. $1250 is a lot of money to shake André's hand and get a picture with him. Try, $1599, plus tax, here in my area.
I also have to say that if I were wealthy I would do it. Also, rest assured that if I were wealthy, I would also be helping many people and animals around the world, so I guess I could justify spending that kind of money for a once-in-a-lifetime pleasure. I've always wanted to shake André's hand and tell him how much I enjoy his music and I would thank him for bringing such joy to the world.
Unfortunately, only the wealthy CAN afford this price tag of this M&G, and although I don't take away anyone's wealth, it's kind of unfair that the wealthy are the only ones who could enjoy a M&G now...unless of course you live in Australia and were fortunate enough to get the autograph and picture with André without any cost. Lucky? I don't know whether it's luck or not...but I believe that André is showing his appreciation for the overwhelming support the Australian's have shown him for his music.
I just want that opportunity myself, of course.

All this set aside, André Rieu is still the best Maestro that I could ever imagine. His music gets me through many trials and tribulations. The happiness his music brings me, is never ending. No matter what the cost of the venues and M&G's, the music can never be taken away, for it lives in our hearts and minds forever.

There is a touring show going across the states called "I Love A Piano", a tribute to Irving Berlin's great songs. If you get a chance I would recommend you see this show. 64 of Berlin's greatest songs sung by 6 talented singers, all centered around an old upright piano. The singing and dancing are fabulous.Like a good Broadway musical , it's entertainment at it's best. It ain't Andre Rieu but it's great nevertheless. Good music is always appreciated by me. There are some out there who will not share ticket information until they get their tickets and I don't think that is right or fair.  Tickets should be available to ALL fans the moment we know about them.  They should not be saying "Sale date for Maastricht tickets has not yet been announced" when they know the sale date.

As far as being a "super fan" or "fan" or whatever term is used, we are all the same. I believe André himself said that he doesn't regard any fan more or less a fan than any other...or words to that affect.
It's people who think they are "number one fan" that I don't get. Why should one fan be more "important" than another? They shouldn't of course.
I believe that someone living in one part of the world is just as much a fan as someone living in another part. Someone who's been a fan for 10 years, no more or less a fan than one who's been a fan for 10 days.

I wish I could contribute more, but having this unreliable ole third hand PC, I do not have the advantages of watching the video's, hearing any of the music which some site offer. Please do not take me as a whinner, this is all the truth. Had I the means to upgrade my system, I would have done that a year ago. As my circumstances are many, I will not bore a single sole with my reasons. Things just happened beyond my control. When Jeanine Ann sent me a photo of Andre, I am so over the moon, but NOW I can't even make a copy. The only pictures of our Masetro are on my CD's or DVD's. You don't realize how UNBELIEVABLY CRAZY HAPPY WITH JOY I FEEL when I get a tidbit thrown my way. I just feel so left out of that wonderful loop when y'll talk about seeing or hearing a posting, when I can't open anything to share in this joy. I eat my own heart out wishing I could see what you all with newer model PC's can retrieve.BUT, I am grateful with what I can pick up here or there. It just kills me, that I have saved so many pic's and just can not make use of the printer. Just to "see" a glossy picture from any concert would make me feel like a millionaire. OK, I hear it; enough is enough. BUT André beats in my heart, and I am truly HIS SUPER, SUPER FAN; AND I have only poured out 1/3 of my hearts feelings when it comes to André.
If I were to start on the things I have considered just to buy a ticket, any ticket. It would make people with truely caring hearts cry. The road soap "Andre Rieu: The world Down Under" we follow violinist and orchestra leader Andre Rieu as he prepares for his first concert tour in Australia. We follow him on his promotional tour, and, among others, were present at rehearsals in the studio and see them at major concerts in Europe. Like never before Andre comes together with his orchestra in Australia. With more than 1.5 million sold CDs and DVDs he is a "DownUnder"  mega star. Recently, the Limburg star reporting nine DVDs in the top 10 of Australia.
For the Australian grand Rieu concerts extracted from his Viennese castle, the ice dancers, the golden coach and the Viennese ballet. The kick-off of the concerts will take place in Melbourne where he will have  a large concert stage for more than 35,000.
Andre Rieu: The world  Down Under from Friday, October 31 to see at 21.30 on TROS Netherlands 1.

There are some words that do not make sense but we can tell that beginning Friday, October 31 they will be following Andre and his group preparing for his Australian concert tour.  This will probably be like "On the Way to New York".  I did my best to make sense of some of the words.  Hopefully this road soap will be made into a DVD at a later time.

I'm thinking that it's amazing how humans get so focused on things that may happen in the future, but we just never know what the next second will bring. We should all be happy with our present moment in life. Be happy, listen to beautiful music and help each other as much as we possibly can.
You take care of yourself Inge, no more of them accidents!

I read on Suzan's site that Australia will be her farewell tour. She said she will no longer tour with Andre after that. I can understand why she might feel that she should go elsewhere but I am sorry that she won't be with them in the future. I know many, me included, have a special feeling for her because of the time when she and Pierre seemed so happy together. It seemed like a fairy tale. Better the split happened when it did. I wish both of them the best of luck.

Virginia, I agree, Suzan will be missed. But things do change, nothing stays the same forever. I miss a lot of the "old" members of JSO, but I wish them all the best. One thing about it, Andre has an ear & eye for the best talent so I'm sure any replacements will be equally enjoyable. I guess we sometimes think of them all as family and as you know, saying goodbye to family is always sad.

I think of those who have left the JSO and think of how much I enjoyed them. I'm always sorry to see anyone leave, but I know it's all a part of change.
It is sad, for sure, for they will be missed. I always hope that they are happy with their decisions.

DJ Bob, you take care, I will say some prayers for your speedy recovery. I strongly believe in prayer and Sweet Jesus being there for our two traffic survivors.

I too read an article about Suzan leaving the Rieu "family" group. I know I will miss her very much. She just took my breathe away the very first time I heard her. There is so much talent in the JSO; I realize they come and go, but there are certain ones you become so attached to. But, as they say, life goes on.

So many good wishes to our traffic survivors; Speedy recovery to DJ Bob, and many good wishes on your new journey around another part of the world Suzan. We all love you, and you will always hold a special part in my heart. Much success to you and the girls that take this venture together. I do hope to see you once again. I looked yesterday in that "Personvanhetjaar.nl. and I found that Suzan and Carmen moved down very much, but Carla is still in the same standing as last year. I think those who want to vote for Andre have fun doing it and enjoy it.  It is a way to feel one is giving to a man who has given to them.  I know that no website makes anyone Man of the Year, nor does any magazine or newspaper.  It is our hearts which decide this honor.  And I'd say André has won the award many times over with millions of Fans.

Today I rummaged through my clippings from André and came across an interview from 2OO1 with Jessica Schwarz in Böblingen Germany. The whole interview is the usual thing and not worth translating because you read it a thousand times, but that part is funny:

Jessica Schwarz: One question for the "Wetten dass..? Club magazine: How long does it take you in the morning in your bath, Mr. Rieu?

André: How long it takes me in my bath? I am very disappointing in that, because I never take a bath.

    Jessica: What, one moment......

André: I never wash myself (laughing)

Jessica: That is why it smells so good from perfume - all sprayed over?

André: Yes, I only make: psch, psch ... just like Louis XIV used to do and his French Queen. They never washed themselves, they only spayed perfume and powdered themselves. In Versailles that was a huge thing, they shit and pissed for half a year one side full of the castle and then they moved to the other side and did the same, while the first half was getting cleaned.

    Jessica: Iiiihhh.......

André: This is really true. It must have stank there and like that it is in my house....(laughing)

Jessica: Oh how wonderful, nice, so we will all come by your place

André: Well, is that a good answer?

Jessica: now out with the truth: how long?

André: I always take a shower, short, very short....

Jessica: What I still would be interested in....

André:......but that with the washing that is true, soap you do not need that is not healthy, learned that from the Indians, really true!

Jessica: When have you been with the Indians together?

André: I was not, but I read it. They did that and they also massaged grease into their skin because it is good for the skin, but that with the grease I do not, but the rest!

Haaaaaaaaaaa, he really said that, so do not blame me for bad language, Inge

I first heard Montavani(?) play it and just the other day, on my radio station, I heard a very good rendition by Heitor Villa-Lobos."Seventh Heaven of Love", on Andre's Fiesta cd & Royal Albert Hall, it may be on others too, but it's a very old song(as old as me actually)! , and that's OLD!!

On his tour to Australia he takes people from ZDF to film one concert that will be shown in Germany on Silvester. The guy called him band leader, he wrinkled his forehead and said: "Band leader?" the guy said then: Orchestra chef.- In his orchestra are now 12 babies on the way and 5 couples married to each other from the JSO- a doctor is since 1O years traveling with him for him, actually, but if somebody else needs him he will look after them, too, but he never needed him. - He never ever had to cancel a show - Marc and Pierre are very musical, Pierre plays in the JSO, when the time permits trumpet, Marc has an I-pot in his brain, he remembers everything musical. - he thinks Obama wins in the US - his next plans ar to visit Mexico, Argetina, Brasilia and other countries in South America.
