I do live in Mudgee and was surprised to see it mentioned here! Unfortunately today is Saturday and by the time I saw this article it was 2pm. I hurried off down to the record shop but it had shut at 12.30. So I can't tell you all what the cake was like I'm afraid.

Drats.  But we all appreciate the effort.  In the US we have not had a 'Record Store Day'.  I think that's an interesting concept.

I don't think we've had them here before either - Grayeme might know. When I looked through the shop windows it was all decorated with banners and posters and there were lots of tables of 'specials' and a big Andre section (not on special). So I obviously missed something. It's a wonder I hadn't seen anything about it in the local paper last week.
Just shows how special the blog is! You had to tell me about it Prudence! I have no idea where you are but I guess it's a long way away.

The first I heard of it was also from "Prudence's" post. It really did not seem to be very well promoted here.
It is a great concept, maybe it was more promoted through the younger generation information channels that us "old fogies" don't see.
          Fancy "MUDGEE' having the cake.!!!
          I love "MUDGEE" !!!

My son told me this morning he saw a lot of activity at the store while driving past yesterday. Said they had a band on the footpath and all.
I'm pleased to hear you love Mudgee Grayeme xxx

Mudgee, I really like that name. I took the virtual tour & what a lovely place, a place I would put on my wish list. Beautiful wine country and perfect for bike rides. Jill, it must be a great place to live.

Mudgee is an aboriginal word meaning 'Nest in the Hills' and it is a very apt name.
It was such a good idea of Grayeme's to put the link on the blog so people could see. Thanks Grayeme. I owe you one.
Our family always lived in Sydney. We eventually had six sons and friends of ours moved here to manage a car yard. When they told us I remember saying, "Where's Mudgee?" Anyway, they asked us to come and visit them for a weekend. (They were good friends - not many people asked us and the six kids to come for weekends!)
Anyway, when we arrived they told us they were looking for a few acres out of town and said there was a farm advertised in the paper and did we want to come for a drive?
Well, they thought it was too far out of town, but we thought it was heaven. It was 129 acres, tucked away in a valley between beautiful rolling hills, with good grazing land, a couple of large dams, a creek with fish and two big swimming holes for the boys and a couple of kangaroos hopping about - to us city folk very romantic. The house was old and delapidated, barely livable, but it had five bedrooms and a huge kitchen, so was big enough for us.
We turned our lives upside down and made an instant decision and moved.
Although the nearest was a kilometer away we were surrounded for ten kilometres in every direction by the best neighbours in the world. They soon turned us into sheep farmers, pig breeders, cow milkers, orchardists etc etc. The farm wasn't big enough to make a living from so we had to work as well, but the boys all loved growing up there. Now that they have all grown up we've moved into town, to a house that isn't so much work. And now, here I are talking about Mudgee on the blog.
How extraordinary that it was mentioned. The population is only 8000 in town and another 8000 in the district.

wow! "nest in the hills", I love that.I can see why you were drawn to it, and a perfect place to raise a family too. This all seems like a piece of paradise on earth. Thanks for the trip Jill & Grayeme. If I'm ever down your way I'll look you up!

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day, and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records etc. Record Store Day is now celebrated the second Saturday every April.
And yes Jill, I do live UNDERCOVER and far away in the land of Honalee.   Honestly, your Paul Cashmere knew about Record Store Day and now so do you.

Sally, this is really a fairly new thing I think. Last year,in Springfield(a town close by) they had a record store day. If you go www.recordstoreday.com you can find out, on a map, where the participating stores are, here in the US, anyway. but it does seem to be an international thing now.

Well, I've been down to the record store to check out about the cake. The owner of the store was quite surprised to hear it had been mentioned here.
He showed me a photo of it. It was quite a work of art - not the violin I thought it might be, but a reproduction of an old record player with a vinyl record and even the switches beautifully crafted in icing.
