André Rieu's Midas Touch

André Rieu - 'You'll Never Walk Alone' - GOLD

 ANDRÉ RIEU’s MIDAS TOUCH

André Rieu arrived in Sydney yesterday – his fourth visit to Australia in the space of less than two years – to promote his new album You’ll Never Walk Alone. “Ah, this feels like home!” the Dutch classical musician exclaimed, visibly moved by fans who greeted him enthusiastically as he entered the Arrivals Hall.

The album, released on 1 May, has already gone Gold. Subtitled “Songs of Hope and Inspiration”, the CD is fashioned as a Songbook, paying tribute to the music and style of the great orchestras of the 1950s and 1960s – Frank Chacksfield, Ronnie Aldrich and, of course, Mantovani.

Two of the tracks on the album were recorded as a response to requests from his Australian fans – Elizabethan Serenade and Nearer, My God, To Thee. “The message of my new album is togetherness,” says André. “As I write these words, I celebrate 30 years of performing on the stage. I’ve told my story often, having built my career to a point where I now have the privilege of enjoying my own orchestra, bringing happiness to countless millions, playing concerts night after night.”

The album celebrates Togetherness with such anthemic songs as “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Land of Hope and Glory”, as well as Love, with tasteful, fun arrangements of numbers from My Fair Lady and The Phantom of the Opera as well as a tranquil arrangement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Earlier this year, André composed and dedicated his own song “Yours Forever” to victims of the Victorian bushfires. The song is included on this album.

In 2008 André held the #1 position on the DVD chart for 36 of the 52 weeks with 6 different titles. His DVD sales alone represent 116 Platinum accreditations in Australia and he has sold more than half a million CDs in this market. In both, 2007 and 2008, he was the biggest selling recorded music artist in Australia.

Highlights of André’s promo visit will include appearances on A Current Affair tonight, and on the Today show tomorrow for a whole hour, from 8am – 9am, where he will cook his signature dish – an Endive and Pork stew. On Friday 8th, at 7.40am he will appear and perform on “Sunrise”.

Fans await him eagerly for his Personal Appearances at Westpoint Blacktown in Sydney on Friday 8th at 2pm and at Eastlands Shopping Centre in Ringwood, Melbourne on Saturday 9th, where he’ll sign copies of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

And André will be the guest of honour at an exclusive red-carpet event at Hoyts cinemas, which will play, for the first time on the big screen, his best-selling “Live in Australia” DVD, now 22 x Platinum and the fastest selling music DVD in Australian retail history. He will introduce the event and the concert will be broadcast via satellite to more than 60 cinemas around the country.

In October/November this year he will tour Australia for the second time with his Johann Strauss Orchestra for a series of fun-filled Arena concerts with an entirely new program.
