Marlene, you think it's bad that you have not seen Andre in over a year? Well try 3 years! I am feeling so deprived, but due to circumstances beyond my control it has just not been possible. That's why I so wait to hear about everyone else's concerts. Between that & the dvds & cds I manage to just barely survive. But one thing about it, Andre has really made my world so much smaller. I have just been invited, & accepted, membership into the Brisbane Butterflies Shirley Club. All Shirley's, mostly in Australia & NZ I believe. They are all about "food, friendship & fun". That's right up my alley. It will be a new experience for me. Wonder how many are Andre fans? I know of at least two of us. Thanks to another Shirley.

Although I would love to claim intelligence and talents in ALL areas of my life.
Ok, it HAS BEEN one year, 7 months and 21 days...since I've seen André at a concert.

Jeanine Ann, that's great! I love to watch them play that one. They always have so much fun & the audience loves it. The first time we saw it was at our first concert in Dallas. I'll never forget a young man who came running to the front, where several people already were, and began dancing, all by himself, with a big smile on his face. He had more hip movements than I'd ever seen before. He was really into it. This is one that the young crowd really likes & they find out that an Andre concert is not dull & stuffy. I am glad to see more young people at his concerts. At this same concert, at the front, was a young mother with her little girl, about 5 or so, I gave the little girl a yellow rose because she was enjoying the concert so much. Pierre took a picture of the little girl holding the yellow rose. If I can find it I'll send it to you.

To make it worse when she'd said they'd ring back I asked, "Does that mean I'll get tickets?" Her reply was, "I can't promise that." I sat by the phone and stressed out till they did ring about 10am. When she offered me second row seats I was amazed. She told me they'd been ringing people back in the order they'd rung in. I wish the first girl had told me that.

Hi everyone. André's concert in Portland was terrific. The audience was very "up" and there was lots of excitement in the air. The songs were ones I had heard before at some point, but they were ones that I really like, and they sound so much better in the Arena where one is in surrounded by all of that sound. It gives a very different feeling. There were a number of standing ovations and lots of applause. The JSO itself got a long standing ovation. During the Beautiful Blue Danube, I would say there were 20 pairs more or less dancing in the aisles. The audience seemed very responsive to the music, clapping to the beat when they could. They weren't about to let André go easily, wanting lots of encores. One of the last encores was Adieu, mein kleiner Gardeoffizier, where the audience is supposed to sing and wave back to André and Co. This audience was waving back, but, being American, didn't know the words as well as the European audiences, but we tried. It would be good to know the words (German) so that we in the US can sing along too. The Arena wasn't totally filled up. There were some empty seats on the sides and up in the back, but the Arena seemed fairly filled up. Last time, the Arena told me that there were 14,000 available seats for André, and it was pretty full then. This time, definitely not 14,000, but still lots of very enthusiastic fans. It was a fabulous concert.

Shirley wrote:
Thanks Marilyn, the concert sounded wonderful. I'm just sorry the venues do not seem to be as well attended this year. I'm sure it's just an economy thing.I think Bill had the German lyrics to the song you mentioned but I'm not sure when he put them up. I only copied the main chorus but I'll give it to you. "Adieu mein kleiner Gardeoffizier, Adieu, Adieu Und vergiss mich nicht Und vergiss mich nicht Adieu mein kleiner Gardeoffizier, Adieu, Adieu Sei das Glück mit dir Sei das Glück mit dir Adieu, Adieu mein kleiner Offizier, Adieu". Hope this helps.
June 16, 2009
Marilyn Smith wrote:
Thanks Shirley. Hopefully these lyrics will help future concert goers. I will see if I can find the rest of the lyrics. I don't how often or if André plays this in the US because of the German lyrics. This seems to be one of his standard encores in Europe to bring the concert/encores to a close, so maybe since the Portland audience was really wanting lots of encores, he just Played it. I am sure the economy is playing a big part in the lower audience attendance, but there still was a sizeable audience there. If 14,000 seats are available, maybe the audience size was up around 11- 12000. A total guess of course. And the audience enthusiasm was so good that it hopefully made up for it..

Take care André, please return and share again with us, your life-filled music! It does make us happy!!!!!!!
I think it's fun to have these frequent thoughts by André himself. Thanks so much for putting them on this website.

A special month for me as I'm going to see André for the first time in one year, seven months and 21 days. Not that I'm counting.
Hope everyone will have a great summer!
I can't wait to see you in Brisbane for the annual "Shirley Shin-dig". I have seen them on TV from time to time and they are anything but "dull" I can tell you, but I have no doubt you are up to them. ha ha...ha...
So is that 21st January 2011 Marlene, where are you going to see him???
I could never countdown for that long, or is this some little "joke" I am not in on. ???
After I re-read Marlene's comment, I could 'read' it the way you did. Ha. It can mean two things.
I am pretty easy fooled Eh!!!. Marlene had me stumped as to how she knew where he would be performing that far away Ha ha.
Haha, Grayeme and Sally...ok...so I re-read my statement and yes, it could be taken both ways. As far as looking into the future and knowing where and when André is going to perform in my area...well, let's just say I haven't developed my talents in that category yet.
Ok, it HAS BEEN one year, 7 months and 21 days...since I've seen André at a concert.
Shirley, enjoy your "Shirley's Club"! Sounds like you will have a great time. And, hopefully, sooner than later, you will see André again in person. It's been a long time since you've seen him!

Hello from a voice from the past! It has been a long time since I posted anything on this site but many things have happened. First I have made my first photo show of our grandson who is now 9 months old. You can see it at the following; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y90G6-TdU7U (Be sure to watch in hi def and in full screen)
Now for some bad news, My wife and I were planning to go to Andre's concert in Baltimore and few days before at a friends house in the Washington DC area she fell down some stairs and broke a bone in her left leg which required an operation. Need to say we did not make the concert but some friends used the tickets and just loved the show!!
All my very best to all our friends and I hope to keep in touch more often. I really like all the changes to the site.
May GOD bless!!
DJ Bob (Still hooked on Andre after all this time)
Hi Bob, I am so sorry to hear that your wife fell. I hope she is on the mend. I saw you grandson on FB, he is a doll! Aren't Grandchildren the best?
Give my regards to your wife!
Hi DJBob,
We are so sorry that Maria fell and needed surgery. I hope she is alright now. What a shame you had to miss the concert too. We miss you both and cannot wait to see you again. We will look at the photoshow of your grandson. He is getting so big and so cute. God Bless you both. With our love, Jeanine Ann and Clyde
DJ, I've really missed you on the blog. I do think Haden is an absolute angel. I'm sorry to hear about your lovely wife. Hope she will be on the mend, guess no cha-chas for her for a bit.
Welcome back DJ Bob, just getting back on the blog site myself. I am so sorry to hear your wife had such a nasty and unfortunate accident. Sending her many wishes for a speedy recovery. I am sure your little grandson will keep her spirits lifted and keep a smile on her face. These little angels have a way of
lifting spirits and make many of our down times uplifting and give us the strength to get through these bad times.
I am unable to view your photo's, but I
know at 9 months, he has to be such a little cutie, making the both of you so very happy and proud. Sending smiles, lots of sunshine wishes and prayers as your wife is recovering. Glad to hear your back on the site with us.

I've been wondering where you were.
Today is National Doughnut Day and I plan to celebrate that!
In Remembrance of D Day. Thanks to all Americans

"Lost Heroes"
Ocean bird, I wish to tell you
A story from a long time ago.
Oh ocean bird, I wish to tell you
That sad old song you have to know.
America, so many heroes
They left their homes and crossed the waves.
America, you sent your young boys
Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you
That sad old song? They came to save us!
America, so many heroes
They lost their lives and filled the graves.
America, we love your heroes
America, we are your friends
America, well always love you
And keep you in our hearts and hands
America, so many heroes
They left their homes and crossed the waves.
America, you die of grief now
Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you
That sad new song? They are in pain now!
America, we share your sorrow,
America, let hope remain...
I was 7 years old when this happened. Most of the news we got by radio, I can still hear the voices of Gabriel Heater, Edward R Murrow & Walter Winchell, bringing the latest news. I didn't realize at the time exactly what was going on but we kids knew something serious had gone down. From the talk of the grownups we knew these were serious & somber times. Today we remember all those who didn't come back & are in graves in foreign lands. I'd like to thank all those who honor those in the cemetaries of your lands where they died. They say this is the day that changed the course of history & it probably was, but the price was high. To all those who died and all those who survived, I thank you. You really are the true heroes.
6 June 1944, in my opinion, is one of the most historically significant days

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuL5XLvAwOQ
Very nice Jeanine Ann. Thanks for sharing with us. I love "Marina", and I love watching André play it!
I LOVE IT. ANDRE IS REALLY INTO THIS AND DANCING! VERY COOL
I have other videos that I will share as I get them on YouTube. I guess I should have moved around and caught some of the JSO but I get stuck on Andre and cannot move : ) I have him playing Intermezzo Sinfonico and Titanic song. Hugs

From the comments I read it looks like it could be Heidelberg for a special concert? Could this lead to a new DVD?? Just wondering : )
I don't know where he is, but he's pointing, which looks to me like he IS figuring for a special concert. Any time would be great for a new dvd!

Hey, this looks like something to look forward to. Heidelberg always reminds me of the operetta "The Student Prince" and it's wonderful music.
I've just watched your video Jeanine Anne and really enjoyed it. You can hear the audience is having a great time and Andre looks like he's having a ball. The JSO are so animated too.
YES!! After stressing for a week since we heard Helmut Lotti is coming to Australia in September I got tickets this morning - second row too!
I was so worried I'd miss out because all the phones were jammed. The friend I'm going with has been telling me all week that all we have to do is visualise where we want to sit and it will happen. "Oh yeah", I thought. Anyway I did what she said and kept visualising the 2nd row, just right of centre, and it happened! I'll never doubt her again.
Just three weeks after Helmut's concert we have tickets for Andre in Newcastle.
I'm so happy I could burst.
WOW 2nd row seats for Helmut!! That is going to be GREAT !
I, too am excited about Helmut Lotti coming to Australia in September, and have been lucky enough to get tickets in the front row at his Gold Coast Concert. The phones were certainly jammed, but they answered at 9 am and took my name and phone number and said that they would ring me back. After one hour I kept phoning and couldn't get through, but they finally rang back at 11.45 and offered me front row seats, so I am elated.
Yes Marie I had a similar experience. I started trying at 9am but it took me till 9.30 to get through. The girl told me they'd have to ring me back...I was sure they wouldn't and not game to try to ring them again in case they were trying while I was!
Hello all. I had not heard that Helmut Lotti was coming to Australia. Is he coming to ADELAIDE. I know he got married again recently. Love his DVD"s cannot get TRIBUTE TO ELVIS though.
Sorry Lyn, but Helmut is not going to Adelaide this time. It is a whistle stop tour with just one concert in each place up the east coast. I think they are just testing the waters, so maybe next time for Adelaide. You will have to skip over to Melbourne to catch him this time. Concert details at

HELMUT LOTTI! All you guys are lucky to be able to go to his concert. It should be a humdinger! Thanks to a friend who sent me some of his music I am a fan of his too. Jill & Marie you have very good seats. Let us know how you enjoyed your concert. I'll be turning green with envy.

Moderator Jeanine Ann, I just wanted you to know, that the DVDs have not arrived yet, perhaps there is something wrong with your postal service, like last year the Slide show you promised never arrived.
Hello Inge, you must be a little patient, this is not all I do. I am painting the house inside. I am working on them. What slide show do you mean? Did I promise something else? If so please refresh my memory. I have no slide show as such, do you mean a DVD? Let me know by email.

Judith, we all miss you when you're not here. I was wondering where you have been. You are right, life can sometimes be hard, but what I like about you is that you have decided, you've made a choice, to smile & be happy anyway. Do you realize how many lives you might touch, just with your positive outlook & humor? Yep, people like you are definately missed.

I'm sorry life is hard for you at the moment. Wish I lived nearby, I'm sure we'd enjoy going out for a coffee and chat.....could talk about all sorts of interesting things!
Re outdated equipment - I ended up buying a DVD player purely so I could play the Andre concerts I couldn't resist buying. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. I'd had the DVDs for weeks before I had any means of playing them.
Thanks my friends Shirley and Jill for your sweet touching words. Made my day,
perked me up and just adds fuel to my
constant challenge to have a positive and cheerful outlook. Just another chapter in my journal of life, my new

CAN YOU TELL THAT I'M EXCITED?
Anticipation is incredible.

Family members don't wish to bother me.
Everything is a chore, EXCEPT getting ready for the concert!
I don't want extra "duties"!
Now, all I have to do is get ready, dressed and drive over there...but...it's still seven hours before I can leave. So...maybe I'll play some André music to set the mood...yeah right, like I need to do that!
I doubt that I'll be on later, of course, so everyone have a great Sunday, be good, know my thoughts are with you, wishing YOU were here with me, SHARING THIS SPECIAL MOMENT.

Hi everyone. André's concert in Portland was terrific. The audience was
very "up" and there was lots of excitement in the air.
"Adieu mein kleiner Gardeoffizier, Adieu, Adieu
Und vergiss mich nicht
Und vergiss mich nicht
Adieu mein kleiner Gardeoffizier, Adieu, Adieu
Sei das Glück mit dir
Sei das Glück mit dir
Adieu, Adieu mein kleiner Offizier, Adieu". Hope this helps.
New message from Andre on Twitter. He wants you to guess again!
My first guess would be beautiful San Francisco, California.
I think you are right. It looks like a cable car.
Hello everyone, I'm working on the Portland concert that I wish to share with you. My pictures, well, picture taking is not my strong suit, but I did try. We'll see what I can get out of them.
The concert was fantastic! I loved every minute of it and it sure was a whole lot of fun.
I finally got my "You'll Never Walk Alone" today. I am listening to it now, and if you haven't got it yet, you are missing a very nice cd.
"Nearer My God, to Thee", the song, was one of my husband's favorite songs. Being a minister, he loved all the spiritual music and he listened to Tennessee Ernie Ford sing this song a million times. It always meant so much to him. It will always remind me of him and yes, it does bring tears to my eyes as I listen to it.
Thank you André for playing this incredible song which allows me to bring back some very special memories of my beloved husband, not that I needed an excuse to think of him.
Hi Marlene. I did get that CD a few days ago, and it is a very nice CD. I have been enjoying it alot. I am glad for you that it brings back those memories of your husband. There are some very wonderful songs on it.
Sally, are you catching one of Andre's Concerts whilst he is in your area.???
Hello everyone, just want you to know that I am working on the Portland concert still.

Has anyone else had a problem getting the CD and etc. that is suppposed to be part of the "Silver Waltz" package for tickets? Lots of strange things happening. I just heard too that Suzan is married now. Bless her heart!
Hi Marilyn, nice to hear from you. I don't know about the CD, I did not have that package. I guess they are mailed to you. How did you hear about Suzan? I knew she had a boyfriend and was in the process of moving to Norway around the pole area but that is all I have heard. That is great to hear. Hugs

Can't wait to hear about the Phoenix concert!
I wish I was In Phoenix tonight!
I haven't been there but in the photos I've seen It looks a really interesting place with unusual architecture.
I like hot weather and Andre is there. Sounds great to me
I didn't have any idea who Andre Rieu was till I just went to his concert in San Diego, CA USA
His concert was awesome, heart-warm, people and audience oriented , fun concert
He shared how he loves music by his whole body and soul...
Thank you for sharing the great experience! You Rock!
Whoa, Webmommy goes to Phoenix and now the Guestbook is at bottom of page.. work work work... moving it up... up ... up....
Ooops Sally I should have seen that but I was so busy thinking of you in Phoenix : )
No worries.. I saw you were busy with keeping all us fans informed on Andre news
And now that I'm home.. I have news!

New Message from Andre on Twitter. See "The Daily Rieu" page.
I can't imagine anything better!
New message from Andre on Twitter (last one from our shores). See "The Daily Rieu" page.
Another new message from Andre on Twitter regarding the death of Michael Jackson. See "The Daily Rieu" page.
The photo taken by PBS in Wilkes-Barre finally arrived and I thought you may like to see it. It was only a 4 x 6 so it may appear small. That was nice of them to give us something to remember the PBS station.
Another new message from Andre on Twitter. He is still on the plane as of 15 min. ago. See "The Daily Rieu" page.
Two new messages with photos from Andre on Twitter. He is home! (Miss him already)
Yes, we certainly miss André already!
It was a glorious time while he was here in America.
I will try not to think of the long wait again, until the next time André and the JSO will be here playing their beautiful music for us
and sharing their happy moments.
Take care André, please return and share again with us, your life-filled music! It does make us happy!!!!!!!

Good morning
I think it's fun to have these frequent thoughts by André himself. Thanks so much for putting them on this website.
Have a wonderful weekend.
OH BOY, IT IS SO NICE TO BE HOME AGAIN!!??
I DO HAVE ENOUGH READING ON MY COMNPUTER FOR A FULL WEEK!!
DID ALL OF YOU HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE CONCERTS, ON THE WEST COAST?
BILL, DID YOU WEAR YOUR CHARTREUSE?
BACK LATER.
KATI
Nice to see you back Kati. Missed you.
Two more messages from Andre on Twitter. One photo is Marc's latest painting!!
THANKS JEANINE!
I AM VERY TIRED, BUT WITH TIME, I WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL SOON.
LOOKS LIKE, ANDRE IS GOING TO PORTUGAL, TO PRACTICE HIS NEW LANGUAGE SKILLS?
I AM SURE, IT WILL WORK FOR HIM, SO HE WOULD BE MORE CONFIDENT IN BRAZIL NEXT YEAR!
KATI
I missed you too Kati!
Jeanine Ann, I really like Marc's paintings, they have an almost dreamlike quality. Very soft & relaxing somehow.
Hi Kati! Good to have you back. Hope all is well.
Mr. Bill did wear his chartreuse. And he was noticed for his dancing ability. A young woman asked him (as we were all leaving the venue) to help her learn to waltz. Next year Bill will have more than enough dancing partners.
JUST BROKE MY HEART SALLY!!
I WANTED TO BE THE FIRST ONE, TO DANCE WITH HIM, I AM SURE, HE BECAME A PRO.
NOW, YOUNG LADIES ARE GETTING DANCING LESSONS FROM HIM?
SOOO, JEALOUS!!!
I HOPE, YOU ALL HAD FUN!
I DID SEND YOU AN E-MAIL YESTERDAY!
KATI
I LOVE THIS PAINTING JEANINE, ALSO.
SEEMS TO ME, HE DOES LIKE BLUE VERY MUSH.
HE DID PUT THESE COLOR TOGETHER SO BEAUTIFULLY, VERY MUCH ALIVE!
KATI
Wow, Marc's painting is very beautiful!! I love it. It's very peaceful...if André were playing "Intermezzo Sinfonico" with that picture, it would be perfectly matched!
Welcome back Kati! I missed you too!
what a great taste in paintings and certainly in music, Marlene!
i do agree. that music would be perfect with his paintings.
maybe, they will play that music at the exhibition?
New message from Andre plus photo of beautiful flowers. See "The Daily Rieu" page. Thanks
IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE, GONE WITH THE WIND, MARC'S PAINTING LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THE SCENES FROM THE MOVIE TOWARDS THE END WHERE SCARLETT GOES BACK TO TARA (HER HOME). VERY SERENE PAINTING.
Marguerite, you are right,I hadn't thought about that. I haven't seen too many of Marc's paintings but the few I have there does seem to be a "serene" quality to them.
Frank Steijns
Just now read an article on the web, dated 06/27/09 stating he has broken his leg in an accident jumping off the back carrier in which he totes his portable carrilon bells. States he drove himself to the hospital, was operated on and has a broken leg (fractured fibula).
Thanks to Judith for this information.
New message from Andre on Twitter. See "The Daily Rieu" page. Thanks
LUCKY, HE DOES PLAY WITH HIS HANDS, DO NOT HAVE TO USE A FOOT, OT HIS LEGS.
MAYBE, HE WILL NOT BE AS PLAYFUL FOR AWHILE, LIKE USUALLY HE IS??
KATI
I think Frank does use his feet as there as foot pedals for the carillon, as there are for organs. I hope it doesn't cramp his playing too much.
I'm sorry to hear that Frank Steijns broke his leg!!! My best thoughts for a speedy recovery...or as speedy as a broken leg can be.
Having a broken foot before, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to drive yourself to the hospital with a broken leg! Frank, you are amazing.
I certainly missed seeing you at the concert.
Dear Frank,
You were conspicious by your absence here in Phoenix, Arizona on 23 June 2009. Now I understand the reason for you absence.
I wish you a speedy recovery & hope to see you in Dec 2010 when Andre & the JSO returns to Phoenix
i HOPE THIS MEANS HE WILL COME TO PORTLAND TOO. WHOOPEE
And if he goes to the West Coast he must come to the East Coast, right??? I am ready!
Two new messages from Andre on Twitter. One with photo of his beautiful backyard.
Yes!!! We will think very positive won't we Marilyn??
I will start preparations now.
I found this violin glass wine bottle in an antique shop over the weekend and when I picked it up it was a music box. I noticed it said "The Blue Danube" and sure enough that is what it plays. Could not resist.
Wow, that is stunningly pretty!
That is beautiful. Strange how the violin, in any form, can catch the eye of an Andre fan.
How beautiful Jeanine Ann! I can see how you couldn't resist it.
Yes, another violin item is added to a collection here, there everywhere...where it stops...nobody knows!
What a marvelous unique bottle. You must love it.
Just saw for the first time on You Tube Mirusia singing Bethlehem Morning. Fantastic!! She sang it when she was in Australia last December but I hadn't seen it before. To me it's the best of anything she's sung. I would hope
Andre would put it in a Christmas concert of his. Off to Maastricht on Tuesday.
