Andre Rieu & Pierre Rieu: A Family Orchestra
"We're working our dream come true"
André: Pierre was recently married: My wife Marjorie and I are extremely pleased with his choice Eefje. We have a daughter. However, the negotiations, the planning, was for me much more to handle than I had thought. The feeling was just as intense as when Pierre was born. That is really very deep.
Pierre: My older brother Marc was much more ready for the challenges, than I was. In bed at night I was in my head thinking of what I wanted to see the following day, crafts, or to build. Always with you.
**The above was in Australia, October 2008
Second Waltz
André: I have deliberately spent as much time as possible with you. Otherwise, there would be all things left for you to learn on your own, I did not want that. After my breakthrough in 1994 with The Second Waltz, I was suddenly was much more from home. But you're already gone as far as possible to see and to help with.
Everything in one small truck, and there. I know that they said: “ take the boy more often. He is more than a mature chap. ” When you just 14.
Pierre: Your reputation in the beginning was just not fun. Children are very cruel. Then they said how dumb it was that they have posters or your head, or they started, The Second Waltz stupid and sing it to Marc and I. Luckily I could quickly handle well. Though I still have it hard when people judge me because I am seen only as your son. I prefer to start with a clean slate.
Tsjakka!
André: That awareness has a downside for me as well. And I am not talking about my music the critics find my music repugnant or suddenly decide that Rieu is again acceptable, because the opinion of those people will be available.
Worse, I believe that our fanatical fans that follow us around the world, and then sit with a long face in the first row, angry all the other people who are also. Because they think that they own us.
Pierre: Some would find it quite right, that they should all join us at the table. They know us. These people do not understand that we also have a private life.
André: But, they might be forty in total. Considering that this year 800,000 tickets were sold, it is not so bad. The bulk of the people to respond very nicely. As we enjoy.
Pierre: Music has always been in your life. I therefore think it outstanding that Marc and I were never pushed in this direction.
André: ‘in my family were non-musicians are treated as foreign objects. I did not want to raise you with that foolish idea. I have given you violin lesson, but noted that the drive was not really from the inside. You have took your violin and planted it on the head of your brother!
Pierre: I still play trumpet.
André: That is true. And how.
Pierre: On my wedding day I brought to my bride a serenade. It was wonderful. Otherwise our roles are different and each of us carries our own duties. Together we make a whole.
Working together for a long time: Andre & Pierre

I had to laugh when I read a part of this. I know who he was refering to. We've all seen those few thugs who like to pretend they are special, but the truth is they are pests to Andre.
Andre loves all his fans, not just a few!

I know what you mean Sally, I have seen "fans" like this. It is not about love and devotion for Andre, it is whether or not Andre recognizes them. They should be sitting there smiling and laughing and having a good time rather than saying "I think he remembers me from the last concert". It is always about them and it should always be about Andre and the JSO. I would hate to be known as a pest.

Jeanine Ann, you hit it right on the head. For a few fans aka thugs it is about Andre noticing them, it is all about them.
When we go to Andre's concerts it is about seeing Andre & his JSO, about hearing their music and having a good time.
Such a telling difference. We are so unlike those who stalk them at hotels and busses.
You'd think they would have known how Andre feels about it. The man needs his private time. No one has the right to take that away from him and his family.

I DO THINK ANDRE WANTS TO TREAT ALL THE FANS EQUAL. SOME JUST DO NOT THINK, THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO AND HAVE PRIVATE LIVES. JUST LIKE YOU SAID SAlly, THEY ARE PESTS. I WOULD HATE THAT IN MY LIFE ALSO, PEOPLE HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO KEEP A DISTANCE!! KATI

Well said, Sally, Jeanine Ann and Kati!
Some people think they "own" André just because they go to his concerts...but André and Pierre and the JSO are people and need their privacy, as ALL people do.
There are no fans who are any more special than another. A fan is a fan is a fan...
No one owns another person.
André is special in so many ways because he wants only to bring beautiful music and happiness to people everywhere.
If I were these so-called "fans" who think they are #1 and everyone else is not...I would think about the time wasted, the energy wasted and their wasted lives. There can be no accomplishments when jealousy rules your life. Yes, it's jealousy when you want someone to only like "you".
Being a pest is an accomplishment, I guess, but I would want to attain something a lot higher than that.
André is quite a man, he deserves the best a "fan" can "give" him. Why not allow him to do what he loves to do without being a nuisance to him? André certainly deserves that. "Give" André your best fan attitude and support. We would all be happier if you did.

A Fan or a Fanatic?
The difference between a fan and a fanatic is that while both have an overwhelming liking or interest, the behavior of a fanaticwill be seen as violating prevailing social norms, while that of a fan will not violate those norms.
You know you're Fanatic when......
1. You name your pet André
2.You turn to see if it's him when someone says his name.
3.You have André wallpaper in your room.
4.You have made a tape highlighting all his solo's
5.You fly halfway across the country to see him in concert.
6.You check Ebay every day for his merchandise.
7.You have an expense account for his Ebay stuff.
8.You have started signing Rieu as your last name.
9.You have a web site set up for him.
10. You have a club set up for him.
11.You are planning, or have already, made a trip to see his home.

Oh gee Prudence, I could have done without this one!! I have not named my pet Andre - they are all girls: )
I have posters but not complete wallpaper - I guess 5 large posters does not count as wallpaper. I did buy the same cologne for my husband as Andre wears. I don't fly halfway across the world or country to see him because I cannot afford it. I do check Ebay but only once in a while.
I do love him like crazy and I will work my hands off for him on this blog.
I went to a meet and greet just to see him up close. I started taking violin lessons just because he plays the violin. I have a violin autographed by him. I have every CD and DVD that is known to exist except for those not released yet.
Yes and when I can afford it, I have plans to see his home in Maastricht.
Where do I fit????

I just love all this banter. Am going to try and give my "two cents" on this one fer-sur ~ as a newbie to the concert
circuit, my first seats were "SO HIGH",
I experienced nose bleed (Andre never glanced up that high), and needed oxygen
to keep me from passing out (but had a
marvie time), this is just a fraction of my reply. Keep your eyes focused to de site. Sure has been a very busy blog for the beginning of a new month. YEA!!

hahaha, guess I have to fall somewhere in between. All the comments are valid. Maybe I am, what you call, a semi fan, love his music, have a couple of autographs,a couple of pictures, been to only a few concerts, do not want to follow him to the ends of the earth though. Couldn't afford to anyway.Don't want a piece of his life, have no need to be recognized by him or anyone else for that matter. So maybe I am just a simple fan.I was only very lucky to go to what concerts I did because I figured it to be a once in a lifetime thing. I might get another chance at a concert or two but how many autographs do I need? This is just my own personal thoughts, to each his own I say.

The nicest part of this interview is how Andre & Pierre can share themselves so easily. Their interaction is wonderful. I am happy they are so close and that they keep public and private separate.
