    Born in 1949 in Maastricht Andre Rieu was raised with five siblings in a family of musicians. His father, his character conductor of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, encouraged him to take music lessons. He has already learned at the age of five years to deal with the violin.

    At the Conservatory in Liege, Maastricht and Brussels and the Dutch virtuoso deepened and perfected his musical abilities. After he had played several years in various orchestras, founded in 1987 the Rieu Johann Strauss Orchestra "and left in 1988 with waltz and polka melodies in his luggage the first time on tour.

    The artist deliberately plays classical pieces in a popular form and reaches with its mix of musical events, entertainment and show effects a huge audience.

    His albums made the leap into the pop charts, sold millions of copies have been honored with several gold and platinum. Over a million viewers so far have been in Germany, enchanted by the waltz music. The Star-Geiger is in international demand, concerts have taken him to Japan.

    With his wife Marjorie, whom he has known since childhood, Andre Rieu live in an old sandstone castle near Maastricht. His two sons, Marc and Pierre Rieu also work in the company.
