Maestro Rieu enthralls adoring Newcastle fans

19/10/2009 4:00:00 AM

MAESTRO Andre Rieu created a classical wonderland inside Newcastle  Entertainment Centre last night, much to the delight of 6000 adoring fans.

The Dutch violinist and his orchestra performed the first of two Newcastle shows and will take to the stage again tonight.

It was Rieu's first visit here, and after such a warm reception is considering returning on tour next year.

The Broadmeadow stage was adorned with gold chairs and the venue showered in balloons during last night's performance.

"It's very much a theatrical show," Newcastle Entertainment Centre events manager Natalie Reed said.

The playlist featured everything from the classics to show tunes and contemporary hits.

Rieu bonded with fans, conversing between the songs, which included "Ode To Joy",  "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady, and Celine Dion's hit "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie Titanic.

My husband Ronald and I had a wonderful time when we spent ...The day with Andre...at Newcastle on Monday 19th October. We went to the sound check, had dinner with the other guests. We had the centre seats in the front row at the concert. We thoroughly enjoyed the concert and then went to the after party with Andre and the JSo Orchestra.
We had our photo taken with Andre and then talked to many of the JSO members.
We loved talking to Roger, each of the Platin Tenors,Max and Carmen and Mirusia. We will never forget the experience. Just wonderful. The sounds were perfect and everything was magnificent. We meet some lovely people and enjoyed their company all evening. The ticketek girls were wonderful and helped us all evening. I can recommend that if you can. please think about enjoying the whole Day with Andre experience. It is more than worth it.
Andre and the JSO made us all happy and will continue to do so for many years to come.
