Dutch violinist André Rieu is on his way to Melbourne, after launching the first of his Australian 2009 concerts in Sydney.
Rieu and his Johan Strauss Orchestra played to a crowd of 14,000 who were thrilled with a surprise appearance by Dame Edna Everage.
Sydney radio man, Alan Jones, who has been battling cancer, also made an appearance singing "We Are Australian". The tour included two shows in Sydney, plus performances on Sunday and Monday in Newcastle.
The Brisbane concerts are scheduled for tonight (Wed) and tomorrow (Thurs). Other shows are listed for Auckland (Oct. 24 and 25), and Adelaide (Oct. 26 and 27).
The Melbourne concerts will be held at Ron Laver Arena on October 29, 30, 31, and November l.

That is a nice article for Andre. It must make him feel good to be so welcomed and accepted in to the hearts of so many.

My husband and I were a little disappointed with the Melbourne Concert 29/10. The first half was very "flat". I felt that the chosen highlights had been put together without much thought of bringing new, unexpected magic to the stage. Not enough of Andre playing for us - he is who we went to see. The concert duration was disappointingly short before the encores too. The performers all looked tired - maybe because they have been travelling and performing so much; it was a shame as we really enjoyed the atmosphere, buzz and excitement of the concert last year; maybe our expectations were too high! Plus, Showbiz ripped us off with the price of our tickets; not Andre's fault. Don't ever book with Showbiz; we paid $202.00 for $149.00 seats- thinking we would be getting fabulous seats by paying extra and early; no way, when the tickets finally arrived (not until it was too late to get good seats elsewhere, plus they don't do refunds), the seats were very ordinary. I overheard other patrons around also complaining of the Showbiz rip-off too.
Still love Andre and his music reaches my soul.

Hi Sue, sorry about your tickets, that happens sometimes. I'll bet andre & the orchestra are getting a little tired by now & I can just bet that Andre is itching to get back home to those grandbabies. I'm glad you didn't let this turn you off Andre. It's just true that some concerts seem better than others at times, for one reason or another. I don't know how they all can keep smiling with that grueling schedule they have. You'd have to be really dedicated & committed. Hope your next one is much better. Thanks for your thoughts too.
