A Preview of Andre Rieu's Second Concert in Adelaide

Preview of Second Andre Rieu Concert in Adelaide

It has been one of the best night's of my life - totally magical.

After such dreadful seats last night,  just having great ones tonight made such a difference and started the night off on a good note. The audience participation was much better than it was last night and you could feel how much more receptive they were. The whole atmosphere was so much better and there was a real buzz in the air.

When Danube started, up we hopped and went to the front to start our waltz.  All was going well, until we were directly in front of the Great one.  I'd handed our camera over to a friend so she could take photos of us,  but she was using her own camera to do so, so the woman next to her took it and did the photography for us. I don't know how many photos she took, but perhaps she caught us in what could have been close to a disaster. There we were performing in front of AR, when my heel got caught on the carpet and Rob tripped over my leg and down we started to go. Fortunately, Rob was able to regain the balance for us both, or we could have found ourselves falling at the feet of the Maestro. That could have been an interesting interlude for evening. In fact, if I had fallen, I would have hit my head on the stage.  Having regained our composure, we finished with aplomb and headed back to the seats, with grins from ear to ear.

When the encoré began, I joined my new W.A. friends in the mosh pit (why do they call it that - it's an awful saying?)  and we had an absolute ball.  We were lined up right in front of André, arms linked, swaying, singing, high kicking (which wasn't bad considering I arrived at the stadium on my walking stick) and crying.  When Amazing Grace started, Naomi started crying, I looked at her and started too. I don't know if it was the song, or the fact that the Adelaide concerts were nearly at an end, but the tears flowed. They are off to Melbourne, so the concerts aren't over for them yet, lucky girls.

When Mirusia came out to sing Adieu, she saw me in front of AR and was giving me little waves and I was doing the same to her.  I did give a much bigger wave when the cameras were on me at one stage.  I'd appeared on the screen a few times, so I thought I should show the rest of the audience, what a great time I was having. I believe that's called showing off!

As the stage cleared of the orchestra, only FRANCO was left. I was trying to take a photo of him and he knew it, as he started to ham it up. I was shaking so much, I kept turning the stupid camera off instead of getting it onto zoom. He could see what was going on and the darling Italian stayed on stage until I finally ( I think!) got my shot.  Until Brad goes through them for me tomorrow, I won't know whether I was successful or not.

Christine, thank you for your backstage photos. I won't tell you what I said when I saw the 2 you had with my man. Will it ever happen for me?????????

After the concert, Rob and I met up with Mirusia for a short time, before she had to go backstage for the meet and greet. Alice,  I am please to report I gave her 2 hugs for you.  She said they were all so tired and the singers in particular were feeling the pinch tonight. They were up at 2a.m to catch the flight from Auckland yesterday morning, did the concert, then the after party, which didn't finish until 2a.m. A 24 hour day.

It makes you wonder, how much longer they can continue at this pace.

Well all, the morphine and sleeping tablet has started to kick in, the adrenalin has started to kick out, it's 12.45 and I'm off to bed. I just hope I can sleep. I really am still so wired.

One last thing. In an interview with Richard Wilkins in this morning's paper, he made a statement which has my blood boiling. For those who don't know, André asked Wilkins to travel with them and MC the M&G. What he said was that 'only true die-hard fans' went to the after concert gathering. I was furious when I read that. How dare he! Can I be too surprised? He was the one who famously made the announcement on t.v. earlier this year that actor Jeff Goldblum had died, when he was alive and well and just started appearing on Law and Order, Criminal Intent. Idiot!

Finally, does anyone know of anybody who would like 2 tickets to Friday's Melbourne night concert? An Adelaide  friend of mine has 2 for sale. Her husband has just suffered a stroke and has been forbidden to fly even if he was well enough to do so. She doesn't want to waste the tickets, so I told her I'd put out the feelers for her.

Ok it's now 1 a.m. and I'm definitely off to the comforts of my bed.

Love to all
Lyndall

Lyndall will be sending a full report with photos today.

Sounds like you had a fantastic time Lyndall, thanks again for sharing your experiences with us. Every time I read these it's as though I've gone to another André concert. Can we go to too many? No, not a chance.

Thanks again, Lyndall for taking the time to tell us of your up close seat experience.

I've been to 4 concerts & all have been within the first 7 rows. I do think those up close do become more involved in the concert.

I, along with everyone else, is eagerly awaiting the appearance of your photos
