MAASTRICHT - Andre Rieu was awarded a medal Tuesday with its charter from the province of Limburg.  Rieu received the medal for his merits as a musical ambassador for Limburg. Governor Leon Frissen handed out the award in Andre Rieu's Studio in Maastricht.

The great breakthrough of Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra took place in 1994 when the Second Waltz song was a huge success. Rieu said refresh a gifted musician, violinist, conductor, arranger and entertainer, but also an entrepreneur with the attitude that makes his dream come true.

He wears Limburg ''nationally and internationally in an excellent manner. No other Limburger equals him in this very special way'', said Frissen. Rieu and his orchestra travel around the world and have sold millions of CDs and DVDs. His production company has approximately 150 employees with a turnover of tens of millions of euros. (Reuters)
