Happy December everyone. Where did 2009 go? I hope you all have a very enjoyable time with the preparations for Christmas.
Our stores in my town are already battling it seems to keep up with the demand for Andre's DVDs - the biggest only had four left when I looked and they usually have dozens.
Jill, Where DID it go? I remember just a few days ago it was January. Do you remember childhood when summer lasted for what seemed like 6 months? Now it flies by, and the year just zooms.

I went to get Andre's Christmas DVD, it has been sold out at all the stores I went to, in South Africa!
I guess that is good news. Just wish you had been able to get it. Do you have it by now?
The stores need to stock up, as Andre Rieu Fever is going to HIT.

Isn't this song on Andre's Christmas around the World and is sung by Carla, Carmen, and Suzan. It's a wonderful piece and they sure do it justice.

A friend gave me the Christmas Around the World DVD - it is so precious to watch, and I just bought the Live in Dresden dvd. Everything about this DVD is beautiful. I am so glad it is finally in the states, and many thanks to the Newsletter for alerting us of this. With this year closing and a NEW YEAR on the horizon, I would like to wish all of you health, happiness, prosperity, contentment and the wisdom to know which is the most important. Also, thank you Andre for your music and for bringing us all together through it.

I am looking for the lyrics of the Danube Waltz as performed in the Andre Rieu auf Schonbrunn DVD. My boys just love it and would like to sing along even thou we are Afrikaans speaking South-Africans.
We would appreciate very much as I could only found other versions on the internet.

Berinda, I'm not sure of the versions you've found, but the lyrics I like are the ones written by Franz von Gerneth. To me, they are much more appropriate.Look up his name & you should find the lyrics. On the Schonbrunn dvd there are two "danubes", an der schonen blauen donau, and donawalzer, I'd have to watch it again to see which one you might refer to. At any rate, I don't care for the Josef Weyl lyrics, only the one I mentioned. good luck with your hunt.

When it comes to JSO there seems to be a general consensus that FRANCO aka THE ITALIAN STALLI0N is up at the top when it comes to the most desirable member of JSO!! And as for his wife she's probably used to fans hanging out for just even one encounter. Even Andre admits that Franco has attracted a lot of interest by the women at his concerts.

For Andre Rieu: Just thought I should write and tell you that your music has delighted my mother. She is 92 and has never listened to classical music in her life. The other day she caught one of your programs on TV and has been happily telling me how much she enjoyed it.
Just goes to show that you can never be too old to learn. Your music has certainly opened up a new world for her, even at her age.

I seem to remember that Carmen's new CD

Well, this week went fast and we had a lot of pledging from PBS for André RIYOU, PBS still cannot pronounce his name after l2 years. the first 5 rows are gone, they offered them per snail mail and I pledged for 2nd row
in the center.

They are great seats Inge! Good for you! I had to take 3rd row but that is not too bad. They just tell you that rows one and two are taken and that is it. Some have 2nd row available. I hope all your Christmas holidays will be wonderful. Hugs

especially, but have others also. One of my particular favorites are the wonderful piano interpretations of Charles Suniga of favorite Christmas carols. His CD for the Holidays is a real gem, especially for those who love piano music.

I have just watched the Andre Rieu in Dresden - The Wedding concert. I LOVED it. I have always loved that kind of music. In fact when I bought my first 'record' some 50 years ago (when I was in my teens) much to the amusement of my peers it was "The Straus Waltzes". Midnight struck the clock on Christmas Eve and all was dark. The house seemed ready for the festive season, yet... there was something missing.
Mrs. Armstrong had her home ready for Christmas and the Holiday Season for a while. She wanted everything just right for her friends and family. She wanted them to be awed at her glorious lights, fantastic decorations, and elaborate home that cried, "look at me, I have a grand and enormous home for all to see."
In the middle of the night, on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Armstrong awoke suddenly by a faint voice crying to her. It seemed at first like a voice of a child. As it drew nearer and as she awakened, the voice was actually the voice of an angel.
Mrs. Armstrong sat up in her bed and covered her eyes partially with the covers. The light was so bright that she feared and yet was anxious to see what exactly was going on.
Mrs. Armstrong shielded herself at first with her pillow and then she gradually began to become accustomed to the heavenly light.
There, standing right in the middle of her bedroom was the Angel of Good Tidings and Peace.
The angel whispered ever so faint to her that the importance of this special time of year was about one sole purpose; the purpose of giving one's love and hope to another.
The Angel of Glad Tidings and Peace left Mrs. Armstrong and along with it the special message.
The next morning, which was Christmas Day, Mrs. Armstrong awoke and set out on a mission. It was a mission of mercy. She went out to help the needy and the poor. She kept this special purpose up until her dying day.
At her funeral, many came and acknowledged all that she had done for all who needed.
A wonderful life and remembered forever.

I haven't been on the computer for days, so I've only just seen your reply. Its been more a case of hohohum rather than hohoho. When the mercury reached 39 on Wednesday, everything went on meltdown, including the main freezer which had all my Christmas meat in it, including the turkey, ham and pork. It wasn't noticed until late Thurs arvo. I spent all day Friday cooking up all my meats and then trying to find room in my other smaller freezer to fit in all the cooked meals. Grrr! Now it's back to the shops to re-buy all our Xmas food, but it will have to be much later in the week, so I can just buy the turkey and thaw it out in time for stuffing on Christmas Eve, as there isn't any room anywhere for long term freezing. It'd be nice if some of our Northern Andre friends would wish us chilly thoughts as cooking on Chritmas Day some years are done in horrendously hot termperatures. . Yippee to the proposed 25o for Chrissy Day this year. To happier things. No-one else in the orchestra or soloists come within cooee of F.V. Mrs Vulcano is one very lucky lady. Can't you just imagine how heartbreakingly gorgeous his children are going to grow up to be.

perfect "photo of the season" Jeanine Ann. This looks like it might have come from Christmas With Andre Rieu. It is my very favorite Christmas dvd! I love the snowy scene at the beginning with the brass playing.Then inside, people sitting on hay bales & the lit candles on the Christmas trees. this setting is special for sure.When I first saw it I wondered how all those candles might be a fire hazard but it is so beautiful & I imagine everything was completely safe. Anyway, it really puts me in the right spirit for Christmas.
Please can anyone tell me if a DVD of the Sydney 2009 show has been available on DVD???? Not just the music but the show itself????

We managed to get the DVD from a Target store near where we live but havent had luck playing it as it keeps stopping for a couple of seconds then starting again..we took it back and got a new one but that is doing the same thing....we tested it with last years DVD of Andre's and that works fine....so my DH has taken the new one back again......so dissapointing...but I am sure that we will eventually get a good one

I purchased another (the 3rd) DVD of the Sydney 2009 concert from another store today and this one also stops and starts......this one will also be returned..is anyone else having this problem??
All my earlier DVDs play perfectly so I am wondering if there is a fult in this latest one.....please help

Hi Joy, I expect my DVD any day now from Hans Music so I will check it as soon as it arrives. He emailed me some time ago and said it had been shipped. I certainly hope there is no problem with the DVD. That happened once before with "The Flying Dutchman" with the subtitle dropping out and they had to replace them. I was able to fix mine somehow but that was an easier thing to fix than the problem you are having. Will let you know. Thanks for telling us. Hugs to you!

I have now contacted our TV technichian he is coming round to our house to see if he can do anything for us....seems so wierd as all our other DVD's play perfectly, we just cannot understand it.

The Viennese waltz is the original Western forbidden dance because partners dance close, facing each other and closely touching. Dear Bill: First I want to wish you a happy 2010. For us, South Africans, it will be a tremendous 2010 because it will be The Maestro's first visit to us. I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago about the violinist in the purple dress and I hope somebody will come up with her name. I think somebody must ask Ward. First I want to add a name to your list, also a violinist, Monica Dass( red dress and black hair): for years in orchestra, last in Kerkrade. (Flying D). In DVD '100 years of Strauss' she's asking Andre to read her handpalm. The trombone player with Ruud and Leon the last couple of years I know as Sander Hendrix, and you said Dominique. Will you please check that for me as it's my passion to collect every thing about them. Regards on the last day of 2009.
Hi All,
I had the techn guy come to the house and apparently the sonar (I thnk thats the word) has to be replaced in the dvd/vhs combo....it is still under warranty so has gone to be repaired..it seems to be a throw away world now, things arent made the way they used to be...in the meantime we have watched the DVD through my 7 inch DVD player that I use for my art work.
What a laugh at close to the end when Dame Edna Everidge came onto the stage it was hilarious we were crying with laughing...how about that grandson of hers playing violin???? wasnt he fabulous?

I had the feeling Dame Edna was ad libbing her way through the whole thing. I wasn't sure he'd actually prepared much of it and he didn't know the words to either of the songs he sang - maybe he was having some senior's moments.....
Andre seemed genuinely amused though. I don't know what the rest of the world will make of it, but I thought it was very funny. It feels so good when someone makes you laugh out loud.

While Adelaide sizzles in 40o temps tomorrow, I am so aware of the terrible weather conditions many of you dear readers in the northern hemisphere are suffering through.
Even on our coldest days, we don't have snow, except the very occasional sprinkles on Mt Lofty.
Having had the pleasure of experiencing the snowy conditions in Europe and Canada 2 years ago, I don't know what I'd hate more. Living in our sunburnt country with extreme heatwaves, or in your winter wonderland. Probably the heat, but only just.
The one thing that I loved in Europe, which we don't have here, were the magical Winter Christmas markets, especially at Schonbruun Castle Vienna, Mozartplatz, Salzburg, the town square in Graz, the main street in Munich and Vrijthof Sq, Maastricht.
Until you experience them for the first time, you have no idea how incredibly beautiful they are. As are the spectacular street decorations. Even in a poorer country like Hungary, the streets were ablazened with such beauty.
I sit here in my lounge room, Rob is asleep, Carols are playing quietly in the background, Xmas lights are twinkling on the tree and the hand made bell I bought at a market in the town square of Vienna takes front position. Such wonderful memories.
Nothing though takes away the memory of singing with gusto, my fav Carol, "Silent Night" during the Toronto concert, looking up at our Man with my eyes streaming with tears; tears of great love, immense joy and a feeling of the most blessed peace.
There are already so many gifts under and around the tree, awaiting eager fingers on Xmas Day. One of the saddest things in my opinion is a tree devoid of presents. It looks so lonely and empty.
It doesn't matter at this time of year if we are getting around in thick underwear, boots, coats, scarves and seersucker hats, or bikinis, shorts and thongs (flipflops), sleds, bicycles or cars, with or without chains. It doesn't matter if we are black or white, male or female, young or old, married or single. We are all one in the eyes of the Lord.
May this time, the time leading up to the Birth of Christ be one of much love, happiness, families, giving and receiving. Please Lord, Peace and forgiveness.
May your Chrismas Day be filled with family, laughter, music, smiles, hugs, kisses and most importantly - togetherness.
Merry Christmas everyone. Wishing you all a very safe, prosperous and happy 2010, may it be filled with good healh, love and music. Oh! and, of course, Andre.

That is better than I do Shirley, I drink tea and most Starbucks drinks but no alcohol. I used to have a glass of wine but I lost interest in it. I really hope all who drink this New Year's Eve will NOT drive. Hugs

Hi Jill, the Starbucks drinks are from Starbucks Cafe. They have the Caramel Macchiato (sp) which is Andre's favorite and the latte's, mocha and Frapacchinos. I love them all. I try to get the lite version because of so much sugar. Do you have any in your area? Happy New Year to you!

Hi Jill, yes most are hot coffees but also iced drinks and Frappachinos which are like smoothies but have coffee in them and you can get different flavors. My favorite is caramel. Around Christmas they have Eggnog lattes and peppermint mochas. Really great drinks. Don't know who owns the chain. You must try them. They are very popular in the United States. Hugs

December is the annual red crab migration to the sea to spawn, and full of bird life including the Frigit bird, the Booby bird and the Bosun bird.

Hey there Jill! Can you believe how fast a year goes?The older you get the faster it goes. Jill, I was having computer problems off & on today but ok now. Spent 2 days cleaning & packing all my bells for a display case, then today our local newspaper called & wants to do a story & photo on the USA Shirley Club,of which I am a member. This Shirley club started in Australia & i am an honorary member of the Brisbane Butterflies. Seems like a Missouri Shirley went to Australia fora convention & she later contacted me to join the USA club, sooo, we're off!I think we have 25 members already in the Missouri one but i haven't yet had a chance to meet any of them as they all live farther north.Our motto is "shirls just wanna have fun".

I was introduced to Andre Rieu and his orchestra via a television programme last night. I have never enjoyed a musical programme so much, his control of the orchestra while also being part of the audience was superb. One question though, who was the violinist in the blue dress sitting on the end of the front row ?
