Andre Rieu South Australia Friendship Group

Hi all
After what has been a pretty rugged few weeks, I can finally put
fingers
to keyboard once again. I won't be going overboard with too much
typing
as yet. I'm eagerly awaiting Thursday, when the stitches are removed.
Even though I have good hand and thumb movement, I still have quite a
bit
of residual pain and with over 100 emails to answer, it's going to be
fairly slow going, so I ask you for your kindly patience, which, I'm
sure, you've learned to have with me, over the years.
As the computer hasn't seen the light of day for such a long time, I
am
well out of the loop with anything happening in the world of AR,
therefore, that alone will take up time and energy, trying to catch
up
on all the news and reports concerning His Greatness.
I've had plenty to keep me occupied, whilst recovering
from........well........everything.
The day before Rob and I came down with our oh so unpleasant stomach
bug, we had the most wonderful day at Hahndorf, watching the 2nd day
of
the Tour Down Under. For those who aren't from this neck of the
woods,
Hahndorf is a German town in the foothills of the Adelaide Hills. It
is
one of our fave spots to spend a day and is a much sort after tourist
hub. The Tour Down Under is the biggest cycling event in the Southern
Hemisphere, with many of the Tour de France lycra clad hunks, now
making
it to Adelaide for the beginning of the cycling season. There was so
many lycra clad lovelies both on and off the track, this little
besotted
fan was in fairyland. What a great way to spend a day - lycra,
mandatory
Kransky and sauerkraut roll and Bailey Irish Cream Ice cream.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
As with music and reading, sports dominates my life. It's no wonder I
needed a thumb job, going from channel to channel, watching tennis,
cricket, basketball and soccer. With AFL footy starting this week
and
the Vancouver Olympics, I'm in 7th Heaven and I'm afraid dear
friends,
you will be put on the back burner during much of this next fortnight.
We have also been entertained royally at 2 Adelaide Symphony Orchestra
concerts. The first one was the Saturday before my op, when we
attended
the ASO Alfresco concert it the glorious Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens.
Even though we are in drought and the exhaustive heat is well and
truly
on, the gardens are still a magnificent sight and the perfect
backdrop
for the popular Alfresco held there.
Last Saturday, we headed to the Festival Centre for the Matinée of
"Scotland the Brave". We couldn't get seats for the evening
performance,
which was sold out early, so decided to go to the afternoon
performance,
which in the end was also a sell out. We had seats on the end of the
first row, which gave us the best of both hearing and seeing the
show,
which was magnificent. The tenor was a chap by the name of Greg
Moore.
Oh ladies, he was to die for, both in looks and voice. And the voice
-
unbelievably beautiful.
The concert finished with "Amazing Grace" and "Auld Lang Syne", which
shouldn't come as much of a surprise. As well as the ASO. there were
the
pipers (including lone piper Andrew Fuller) and drummers, Highland
dancers, choir, Greg and soprano Suzanne Kompass (originally from
Canada), pianist Catherine Lynagh and fiddler Marcus Holden. Naomi,
you
would have been proud of me. I did a great job with the tears during
"A
G". With everyone on stage, it was hair raising stuff.
For any Adelaidians who aren't members of the Friendship Group, who
would like to join us, our first meeting this year is on Monday Feb
22,
at the Directors Hotel, 1st floor, 247 Gouger Street, from
12.30-2.30.
Any newcomers are more than welcome. This invitation is extended to
anyone visiting from the country or interstate. We meet on the last
Monday of each month and we'd love to have your company.
Well dear friends, that does me for now. Hope you are all well and
that
wherever you live, the weather isn't effecting you too badly.
Love to you all
Lyndall and Robert

Joy in Melbourne
Hi Joy
I'm counting down the minutes before the stitches come out. In fact, I should be getting dressed as have to be at the surgery in 1/2 hr, but dragging my feet as it is sooooo hot and muggy today.
I have also caught up on all outstanding emails, with the exception of 17 that came in this morning.
I'm going to be able to do so much more now I have a properly functioning digit again.
Thank you for your kind wishes
Lyndall
Lyndall, you amaze me. You don't let any grass grow under your feet do you? What a busy lady you are. sounds like you & Rob have a lot of fun. You know what? You just don't have time to stay sick long, do you?
I unfortunately have worse than better days, living a life of continual aches and pains, but I try not to let that interfere in my life too much, except when I'm in absolute chronic pain and spaced out on barbituates and painkillers.
My involvement in the promotion of Andre in this country and moreso the state of Sth Australia, has given me a new lease on life and I have found that I have entrepreneurial skills I didn't know I had.
I turn 60 in September and I intend to leave the frivilous 50's with a bang and unashamedly enter the super, sensational, sexy 60's with attitude. I intend to age DISgracefully and love every minute of it.
A certain Mr A R is responsible for this. He has shown all of us, that it doesn't matter what age your birth certificates says, you are only as young as you want to be.
Lyndall
Well I admire your positive outlook on things, especially while living with pain. And I have heard so many people say similar things about Andre & his music. I call him my "happy pill", to be taken on those negative times that everyone gets. I can pop a dvd into the computer or tv & before you know it I am smiling, and the day takes on a whole new outlook. At one of the concerts I went to, after the concert, I was talking to a lady who had seen him for the first time, & she was absolutely glowing. She said "I am leaving here with a whole new attitude"!
i hope that you will come back to Australia for mothers day in may this year
for a concert if i had $300 we would come
and see you
