Violinist and conductor Andre Rieu is the investment in his big spectacle shows ended in the red.  In 2008 he suffered a loss of almost 12 million euros.  Its capital is 5 million in the min.

This website reported Thursday the WijLimburg.nl. The site relies on the annual report this week Rieu Production Holding has filed with the Chamber of Commerce in Maastricht.

To finance his shows, Andre Rieu secures his own brand name as pledged to the Rabobank. His property, musical instruments and royalties as collateral to the bank.

Rieu states in a comment in 2009 that he expects this to be  the "best year ever".  For this year the outlook is positive.  In a press statement, sent to WijLimburg.nl, he suggests that the negative figures in 2008 was due to additional depreciation of open air decors.  Because the company "on valuation and result determination very conservative", has led to negative results, says the world famous musician.

This year, a record number of Andre Rieu concerts, including eight in Maastricht, one in the Amsterdam Arena and a Thialf in Heerenveen.  In addition, Rieu has first concerts in Mexico and South Africa. There are also plans of Romantic Shows for a tour of Britain.

Rieu has made his name massive, with romantic shows, classical music for which he makes for the general public.

In 2008 he achieved his World Stadium Tour with a record turnover of nearly 50 million euros. Costs were also increasing, to 59 million euros. For the tour in Australia for example, had shipped 220 containers full of material he needs for his shows.

This is much, Rieu acknowledges in his response. He adds that it also contributed to the global attention for his figure in the media. Of these, he says, he is now reaping the benefits, given the new markets that opened for him.

    Hi everyone,
This is unbelievable how could anything like this possibly happen. We must all get behind Andre to make sure no further losses are possible. I wonder whether this loss has anything to do with his focus now on arena concerts rather than his spectacular showstopping sets.

As I was told as a child... don't believe everything you read or hear.
Numbers are numbers. This story comes out about every 5 years. All those millions of CDs and DVDs and Andre is in the poor house? I think not.

He will be ok, please no one worry.

Every businessman make unwise decisions. The successfull businessman, makes more RIGHT decisions than WRONG decisions.

If Andre did experience some losses with the Schonbrunn sets, it could have been worse had he not sold out all of Aussie concerts, which he did, in spades.
