As Adelaide has it's second exquisitely mild, sunny, Autumn day, I feel deeply for those countries overseas, effected by such horrendous natural disasters.

My heart goes out to those who have
lost loved ones or have been injured, physically and mentally.

I can't even envisage catasrophes of such magnitude. Apart from bushfires, in South Australia, we are lucky we don't suffer as others do. Our last earth tremor was in 1957 and I, as a 7 year old, remember standing in the middle of our street with family and neighbours, but little harm came from it.

As I see Europe lashed with violent winds and storms,I worry about the safety of Andre and the JSO, as they travel from one destination to another.

To you all, regardless of whether you are effected or not, please keep safe, look after yourselves and others. Life is so precious.

Hi Marilyn (& everyone.) I like your greeting, Marilyn. I have so been waiting for Spring, one of my favorite seasons, although March can be very dreary & chilly, there is the promise of Spring to come.
I look forward to those warm sunny days, of daffodills & tulips.A time of renewal for the earth & me. On this day, of 60° & sunny, I call it one of March's teaser days, just a reminder of what Spring is about.
And music , especially happy music, comes with Andre Rieu. I see he is in SA now, getting ready for his April concerts there. One of SA great singers, a Mimi Coertse, has said, about music,"" music brings joy, pleasure, relaxations and healing. It moves into the inner chambers of people’s hearts. You cannot swear at someone in music Music is sensual, emotional and very spiritual. God is the writer, man just the player". I especially like the thought about "you cannot swear at someone in music". I'd never thought of that before. If people listened to music instead of looking at one another's differences, the world might be a more peaceful place, especially Andre's style of music. So bring on March, bring on Spring, & bring on Andre! Happy everything everybody!

You're very poetic and "Springy" today Shirley! Reading your post has made me feel like doing something romamtic and dreamy.
        1. March 4, 2010 Shirley wrote:
Well Jill, I'm glad I made you feel that way. There is always a downside to our Spring too, as the weather can be quite unstable, with the cold & warm temps mixing it up, and for those of us who live in, or near, Tornando Alley, Spring can be quite exciting as we are ready to hit the deck at the first sound of a warning siren. But overall, I still love Spring for those blue sky days & early flowers. As I've gotten older I don't "do" cold so well.
          1. March 4, 2010 Jill B wrote:
We see quite a lot about your tornados on TV here Shirley. I'd be terrified of them. How do you "hit the deck?" - have you all got underground shelters? Do the emergency services drive a truck around blowing the siren or is there a central one everyone can hear? I just can't really picture what it would be like.
The worst weather drama I've experienced is big hailstorms. The last one smashed our skylights and the house was full of fist sized pieces of ice. I was worried about my cat. She was on the other side of the room when the loungeroom skylights smashed and I thought she'd be knocked out if she tried to get to me across the rain of ice pouring down between us. Anyway, our town has lots of tin and colourbond roofed houses. So everyone needed a new roof after that storm and it's certainly made the town look very flash.
            1. March 5, 2010 Shirley wrote:
Hi Jill, no, not everyone has underground shelters, some do, or at least have a basement. We don't have either, so we just go into a closet. Our city has not really had the worst ones you see on TV, but when they come they are scary enough. One year we lost 4 trees & a few shingles off the roof. A big tree across the street fell , crashing into our fence & missing the front of our house by inches, the 4 back trees all fell away from the house, but did take out part of the back fence. Our neighbor had some straw on her garden & the wind picked up the straw & embedded it into a telephone pole, the pole looked like a porcupine. We have warning sirens at various locations across town so most everyone can hear them go off. Sometimes you can tell, just by looking at the clouds, or when the air feels hot & heavy. In the past, May has been our worst month but anymore it can be anytime. A funny thing I have to tell you, a friend of mine told me, when the sirens went off one day, she & her family had nowhere to go except the bathtub, so they all piled in, with a mattress on top of them. Her young son accidently kicked the cold water faucet on the shower head & they all got soaking wet. We have hailstorms around here too, but I've never experienced a big one. We had some roof damage one year. but the hail was only pea- size. As I watch the news, with all the different stories, about storms all over the world, I feel very fortunate to not have experienced the worst of them.
              1. March 5, 2010 Jill B wrote:
Thanks Shirley. I have more of a picture now. Fancy the wind embedding straw in a telegraph pole! Sounds like your friends had a damp adventure in the bath.....
Northern coastal areas here have cyclones. Nature can be very scary. I think an earthquake must be the absolute worst because you'd be so helpless. I've only experienced tremors and they're nervewracking enough.

This is a special request from Durban and Cape Town. Julia in C.T.and I in Durban are both involved with the care of Senior Citizens many of whom just can not afford to buy tickets but are all fans of yours through DVD shows in the Old Age homes. Is there any possibility that you would consider allowing attendance at the rehearsal concert for a small fee? I am not talking big crowds. It would be a very special highlight in their lives where not much is happening anymore.

    1. March 22, 2010 Jill B wrote:
      Hi Inge
You mentioning 'youth' and Baden Baden brought back vivid memories of an adventure I had eons ago when I was young and hitch hiking around Europe with a friend, Diana.
We were loving every minute of being in Germany. Were staying at Youth Hostels and this particular day planned on going as far as Baden Baden to the hostel there for the night. It was quite a long way and to get there before dark we decided we'd have to use the autobahn. We'd just climbed up the ramp onto the roadway when the first car that came along was a police car. Their English wasn't fluent but they had no difficulty making us understand they didn't want us to hitch hike on the autobahn. We didn't understand why but thought they might think we'd hold up the flow of traffic when people stopped to pick us up.
So, we walked back down the ramp and waited till we thought they'd gone and climbed back up again. They were waiting for us...and no longer so polite. We found it a bit hard to take them too seriously. They were only our age, extremely handsome and really quite 'dishy'.
So, back down the ramp we went. What to do, we thought? It was getting late and we didn't think we'd make the hostel in time if we went the long way round. So we decided to walk to the next ramp and get back onto the autobahn there. How irresponsible we were.
Feeling pleased with ourselves we climbed up the next ramp and who was there waiting?? This time they were downright angry and made it very plain we were to get into the police car. We thought, to our dismay, that we'd been arrested. Not one word would they say to us. The last family that had given us a lift had given us a bag of lollies. "Offer them a lolly," said Di. I did, but they wouldn't even acknowledge that I was handing them something. They just sat in stony silence and I began wondering how I was going to explain to my parents that they had to bail me out of a German jail.
We drove for a long time and passed several off ramps. Where are they taking us we wondered? I think it was the good part of an hour later that they turned on the blinker and we saw the sign on the ramp - "Baden Baden". Astonished we realised they'd driven us to Baden Baden. Not only that, they drove us to the door of the hostel, got out and opened the doors for us and said, "You will not hitch hike on the autobahn." We tried to be very enthusiastic in our thanks, but they wouldn't drop their stern manner or shake our hands. So we waved them off feeling suitably chastened and ashamed of ourselves.
The manager of the hostel and other guests were very intrigued to know why we'd been delivered so unceremoniously by the police. We were shocked when the manager said, "But, don't you know? There's been an unknown man picking girls up off the autobahn and murdering them? They haven't been able to catch him yet."

        Dear Irene and Julia,

I don't recall but I believed I directed you to leave a message for Andre on his Guestbook at his personal web page andrerieu.com   We are only a fan site and have no way to contact him with personal messages.  He cannot possibly respond to all the messages but every one is read and I am sure anything of this importance will be brought to his attention.  Please mark it important.  Have either of you tried this approach?  I really hope this works for you.  We really have no say as to what Andre and his team decides.  I did not even know you were waiting for an answer from us.  Good luck.  Jeanine Ann

Jill, I laughed so hard now, tears in my eyes. I have to tell that my friend Marga in New York City. She and I did have almost the same adventure as you. We took the train one day to Karlsruhe, just 35 km from Baden-Baden. We were l6 years old and had not much pocket money. We had just enough to take the train back, but we got very hungry in Karlsruhe and spent our money on some food and an ice cream and thought we hitch hike back. We just went on the Autobahn entry and held up our hand and a police car stopped. My friend said first:" run, Inge in the field," but I said, they would catch up with us. So we told them the truth and they said, it was too dangerous to hitch hike, they also took us in the car , two young guys, they gave us money for the train and drove us to the station. Not quite the same, but similar. You see, if my parents would have found out what we did, my father would have killed me, haaaaaaaaaaaa, perhaps not. But he never found out, but I told my mother one day.

I would love to know whether he would be performing a virtuostic piece like Zigeunerweisen
    1. March 25, 2010 Moderator Jeanine Ann wrote:

Hello, I don't know the works in question but since Andre is classically trained I feel sure he would be able to play them.  Have you ever been to one of his live concerts?  Andre plays a variety of music but does not give a strictly "classical" concert.  His music runs the gamut from Strauss waltzes to a Brazilian medley.  There are many DVD concerts available if you would like to see what he plays.  Andre is a very, very accomplished violinist.

    2. March 26, 2010 Inge wrote:
Wieniawski, I am sure André could play those Zigeunerweisen, if he practiced enough, but he is constantly on the way and that is why we see perhaps tooooooo often the same stuff. He plays Gipsy music from Strauß and Kàlmàn.

Hello, dear Sally, Jeanine and all you lovely People Fans!!!!!!
It took a while for me to be able to get into the Guestbook. Thanks to a recent message from the Guestbook directly, I am finally able to leave a comment and especially many thanks for the well-wishers to my birthday on January 15, 2010. I was soo embarrassed that I could not write earlier.
Not much has changed; my in-law father died in his sleep on March 5th. It is very hard for the people involved.
Fortunately my grandchildren are seeming to become nice human beings. We love them sooo much! A reason to live still for a very long time to come.
I sincerely hope that everything is fine with every Fan of our dear André Rieu.
I will now visit more often.
Thanks are also due to Sally for getting me into the Website again. Only God knows, as far as I am concerned, where the problem was.
    Good to be back!
