Andre Rieu - 'Perfection In Music Is Better Than Sex'

'Perfection in music is better than sex'

March 5, 2010

Andre Rieu has announced another date to his tour of South Africa.

And like with most things in his life another record.

He is the first artist to perform at the Sun City Superbowl five nights in a row. The extra date is on 27 April and tickets went on sale this morning.

Speaking at a press conference at Sun International headquarters, the world famous violinist and best selling male artist in 2009 said that trying to reach perfection in music was better than sex.

"We will rehearse for at least three weeks before we push that red button to record."

He also said that the secret to his massive success was that he looks for contact with his audience. "When I look for contact then I am not so alone. I have 10,000 people on stage with me."

Rieu and his Johan Strauss Orchestra are exceptionally popular world wide with over 30 million CDs sold.  He lives in a fourteenth century castle and loves fast cars.

But, in an interview he told Tonight that he is happiest trying to achieve perfection and fulfilling his dreams. "It's important that people have dreams because it makes us happy."

Asked if he ever gets tired of his hectic world touring schedule he replied: "I have a lot of energy. I sleep a lot and have a simple regime. I'm either awake or asleep. I can’t stand people who are not awake."

Rieu also said that he never goes on holiday because he never sees the need: "I don't work so why should I go on holiday. I am always packing my bag to go somewhere."

The Andre Rieu Live in South Africa tour begins on Saturday, 24 April at the Sun City Superbowl and ends on Sunday 2 May at the GrandWest Area in Cape Town. Tickets are available at Computicket.  However all shows are sold out apart from the last show in Cape Town and the last show at Sun City

Actually it is Music and Chocolate
Shirley as Sex slowly... goes with the
setting Sun. Though a couple of ticks
older than Andre but in great shape.
Perhaps Andre's life is evolving a bit
faster in some aspects due to his hectic
schedule. Pass the Fanny Mays somebody
and que up an Andre concert!!

I am reminded of a quote (cananot recall who said this)

Sex is like Music, Sometimes I like to Waltz, Sometimes I like to Rock n Roll

hahaha, I think we may be on a slippery slope here! I think what Andre says is "trying to reach perfection in music is better than sex", that could only be known by those who have tried to "reach perfection in music" couldn't it? As for me, I am reminded of an old Peppermint Patty commercial, in which an old man says "When I bite into a Peppermint Patty I get the cool sensation of"...., then he stops & gives this sly little grin & says"well, at my age ANY sensation is a good thing". I think I'm with him.

Hi Andre, so excited you are coming to South Africa. I HAVE A BIG REUEST. When in Maastricht in July last year we happened to be at your rehearsal concert which we found very interesting. I wondered if it would be possible for the many pensioners, the aged and other elderly people to attend such a rehearsal concert. Your DVD's are very popular at the retirement villages and old age homes here in Cape Town and they are loved by the old folk. However, they cannot afford to buy tickets and this would be a wonderful occassion for them to hear & see you live. Please give this your attention. Many thanks, your great fan Julia of Cape Town.

I agree with Julia from Cape Town. I
manage a retirement centre in Durban and
we have 12 people going to the concert who can afford it, but there are a lot of my "Oldies" who love Andre and his
orchestra. Once a month I play his DVD's
and the attendance is always over 60 people ( we have 158 residents, some of
whom are unable to leave their suits) but a possibility to visit the rehearsal
would be wonderful to see you and the
orchestra live. Thank you for considering this and thanks to Julia for
the suggestion. Your fan in Durban Irene

Hi Irene, so glad you also think this is a good idea. Have you any suggestions how we could go about putting this into operation. It would be so wonderful for the old folk. Please contact me if possible Best wishes Julia.

Sounds good Sally, your quote, Shirley I am with you and the Peppermint Patty guy, but André is also a senior now and perhaps for him music is better than sex, but he cannot speak for everybody, some like sex with music, haaaaaaaaaaaa!

Hi Inge, Andre may be a senior and he may put sex in second place after music but in my opinion he is the sexiest man I have ever seen.  I mean this in a good way.  His sex appeal is phenomenal with his looks and his music and mannerisms.  I believe this is why so many millions of women love him along with the fact that his music is so incredibly beautiful and calming.  I love your sense of humor Inge.  I always look forward to your posts.  Hugs

Am glad Andre is perfecting Music. We
    attended an Illinois Symphony concert
recently and endured four movements of
Brahms. That was second half of program
and it was PAINFUL. Perhaps we don't
appreciate the classics but I believe
Andre has discovered the best present-ation.
