This is wonderful news. For a classical artist to achieve this kind of recognition on the world stage is extraordinary. After all, the music he and his JSO play, has existed for many years, if not a couple of centuries - and suddenly this music is brought into the homes of people who might never have considered listening to, or watching it being performed. Not to mention the many friendships he has been instrumental in creating across the globe - all through our mutual love for music, and the way he performs it. Simply phenominal!
The Today show is watched by so many & sometimes I have just tuned in to watch the live band segment. This is what andre needs here, great media exposure. A genius idea for sure. Knock 'em dead Andre!
I will, be intensely interested to see just what kind of numbers Andre racks up in terms of CD & DVD sales here in the U.S. after his appearance on the Today Show
I am sure this will be a boost to Andre's popularity, but we need to remember that most of us Fans in the USA/Canada already have all of his CD/DVD. We are not like countries that are just hearing of him.
That said, there will be many many new people who will be privileged to hear the glorious sounds of Andre Rieu & his Johann Strauss Orchestra for the first time.
Does everyone remember how they felt when they first heard Andre?
My sister had been BEGGING me to come and look at her DVD of the New York concert(Radio City Music Hall). I kept on putting her off - always too busy or something. Then one night in November 2009, she asked me to help her with her DVD player that seemed to have a problem. I helped fix the problem and started watching the DVD with her. I nearly passed out! I immediately called my husband to come and have a look, and we finished watching it together. In an instant, I was TOTALLY HOOKED and so was he. Barely a month later, we learnt that he was coming to South Africa. Co-incidence? Not ever! Since then, I've blown my budget buying his DVD's, going to the Sun City concert and I have never been so happy to part with my money! Thanks Sally, for keeping us updated with all the latest news.
This is fantastic news! I only wish that I could be there to see it.
Yes, Sally, I do remember the exact moment that I first heard Andre and how I felt. It's as though it happened just yesterday.
Flipping through the channels to see what was on tv and on PBS there was this man playing the violin whom I'd never heard before, he sounded fantastic and I've been hooked ever since. Live in Dublin was the concert, and I enjoyed it very much. Since then all my friends and relatives have been indoctrinated into the "Andre Rieu" Experience!
Also, I've since grown to appreciate the sounds of music like I would never have thought possible, and I've grown to love the sounds of the violin like no other musical sound.
I can't speak for anyone else, but Andre Rieu has made a very big impact on my life...from watching him and listening to his concerts and the life he shares with his audiences, to appreciating the sounds of music and what it means to healing and peace, happiness and just plain music for the heart and soul.
I'm very excited that Andre will be on The Today Show! I'll have to make sure that everyone I know, knows when to watch it!
Thanks Marlene for reminding me that Sally did ask if we remember the exact moment we heard Andre. Well my sister gave me a CD that she bought (she made me a copy) called Love Songs. I didn't think much of it and put it aside. That was in 2005. Then one night I was looking at PBS and I saw this violinist and I remember thinking how good looking he was and how differently he played and how happy he and his orchestra were. I think it was love at first sight!! I had to know more about him so I remembered that CD my sister gave to me and I played it and loved the beautiful music Andre played. I got as many CD's and DVD's as I could find but that wasn't enough. I had to know more and where I could see him in concert. I began searching the internet and I found this website. Everyone was so kind and gave me lots of information on Andre. After my first concert I knew I was hooked forever. I have always loved the violin and enjoyed listening to violin music since I was in my 20's. I have never heard anyone play with so much feeling and with so much love for the music. Since that day I am looking forward to my 12th and 13th concerts. To say he has changed my life is an understatement. Hugs
