The Seekers to perform with Andre Rieu

Seekers to re-form thanks to Dutch master

THEY have a combined age of 272, which makes them roughly the same vintage as Johann Sebastian Bach's masterpieces. So it's apt the Seekers are re-forming to support classical music superstar Andre Rieu on his Australian tour this year.

Rieu set about organising the reunion after discovering 'I Am Australian' here last year.

He performed the unofficial anthem with radio broadcaster Alan Jones at his Sydney shows.

"This song was enough for me, when you can compose and sing this song, you must be marvellous," Rieu said. So he googled the Seekers and discovered the pop folk act had sold 50 million albums.

"I always want to do something more than my normal concerts so I thought 'why not book the Seekers'," he said.

"But I saw they're not together any more. I was talking to a man who said 'if there's one man in the world who can bring them together, perhaps it's you'."

The Seekers will play with Rieu at Rod Laver on October 16-17.
Tickets available at Ticketek.

Thanks Grayeme & Prudence!   I remember The Seekers.  Folk-group.

I found this on Wikipedia ....

The Seekers were a group of Australian folk -influenced popular musicians that was formed in Melbourne in 1962. They were the first Australian popular music group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States and were a highly popular band of the 1960s, at some points rivaling the popularity of The Beatles .

    Their best-known configuration was:

Judith Durham : lead vocals , piano , tambourine

Athol Guy : double bass , vocals

Keith Potger : twelve string guitar , banjo , vocals

Bruce Woodley : guitar , mandolin , banjo, vocals

They had nine hits] in Britain and Australia in the 1960s: " I'll Never Find Another You ", "A World of Our Own", " The Carnival Is Over " (which The Seekers have sung at various closing ceremonies in Australia, including Expo '88 and the Paralympics and still stands as the 30th Best Selling Song in the United Kingdom), "Someday One Day", "Walk With Me", " Morningtown Ride ", " Georgy Girl " (the title song of the film of the same name ), "When Will the Good Apples Fall" and "Emerald City".

Bruce Woodley's and Dobe Newton's song "I Am Australian", which has been recorded by The Seekers, and by singer Judith Durham with Russell Hitchcock and Mandawuy Yunupingu , has become an unofficial Australian anthem. To date The Seekers have sold over 50 million records.

How great it would be to see them live!Like I said, I did hear their Georgy Girl when it was popular here, but I didn't really know who they were then, but they had great voices. Someone mentioned they were on you tube so I went to listen to I Am Australian, I think it was on their 25th reunion. Wow, they still sound good, and what a great song that is. One person had made a comment that when you hear this song, somwhere deep inside you are Australian too, no matter where you were born.

I don't know how Andre does these things or who advises him....but there would not be one Australian Andre Rieu fan who is not "walking on air" with this announcement. To me...this is on a par with the "Schonnbrun Castle" Tour. The Seekers have been part of Australian lives for almost 50 years and it is amazing in itself that the group can still reform and perform to the level they do after that time. This has really added a whole new dimension to Andre's 2010 Tour. From all Australians...I say Thank You Andre.

Disappointed the Andre Rieu Concert will not be shown in all Birch Carroll & Coyle Theatres or at least in one theatre in major regional cities.
