Andre Rieu In Montreal by Inge Cossette

Concert in Montréal June 25,2010 by INGE COSSETTE

Our concert was of course like yours Jeanine-Ann, Solos and some of the
jokes, but as it is in Montréal, it was half in French and half in English
and some of the jokes came from André because he took advantage of  the
things happening in the venue, I have not laughed so much in his concerts
for a long time, he said he was the lOth time in Montréal, but it was the
11th time I still have all the tickets.

Well to start with he asked of course where  people are from and one guy in
front said Longeuil, André:" how far is it away from Montréal?", another
one shouted from the venue: the next Metro station from here, the whole house was laughing including André and the JSO, than he asked him how many inhabitants it has and he said something over 2OOO, then André asked a woman where she was from and she said from Brazil and André, is that next to Longeuil? Haaaaaaaaa, another one from Ottawa, well he knew where that was.

After the intermission we had to wait for Tanya's Solo because the late
comers came all in with drinks and it took quite a  while, as there is only
one place to get them, upstairs, so the people from parterre were standing
longest in line. He took every one apart and the funniest was, a guy who got
lost and he was searching for his seat. André with his arm in his side asked
him: are you lost, the guy was now on the monitor and he got a head red as a tomato and noted. André asked Teun to give him a chair and Teun did so André swung the chair in the air and offered it to the guy, but now his neighbor signaled him where he has to go and when he finally reached his seat, the guy held his arm up and waved and the poor guy almost died and André had his fun. Next thing a whole group came marching down the isle with drinks and André started now to whistle the "River Quay March" the JSO fell in and also die audience. He finally said then: "Ottawa is here, Longeuil, too,and Brazil, we can start......

At the beginning when somebody was late, he asked where are you from?
Montréal, well he said, we are from Holland and are punctual , in Europe we
are always punctual. But that one you all know for sure.

I was also impressed with Kimi and Leon playing solo, Manoe and the Earth
song. I never was a Michael Jackson fan, but he was a genius, only too bad
that he turned out to be different from what I thought, but the two songs André played were beautiful and it also was the one year anniversary of his death.

A few pictures here, one André whistling the River Quay March, the rest you
know all. Vic and I had lots of fun this time, we also were early, last
year, remember, we missed half of the concert, haaaaaaaaaa!

What a fun, fun concert! Thanks Inge. Ilove to hear about all the concerts because even if the program is the same, the people & circumstances aren't.This had to be one of the best. Am still laughing, myself, about the River Kwai March. Do you remember how many encores they did? I hope we hear from someone about the Toronto concert, how it turns out with all the G-20 people there. Would hate to fight that traffic & there might be a lot of latecomers there. Andre & co might better keep their whistlers tuned up.

That was fun wasn't it?  He did the same in Baltimore and WB so now I don't have to repeat that part.  He kept saying things like "oooh no, another busload from the toilet".  Do they only have one toilet up there?"  It was funny.  He didn't do the chair part because no one got lost.

I promise my report and photos are coming.  I had a few things to get on the blog today as did Prudence so I have not had a chance to write it but it is in my head and in my heart.  I hope too we hear something about Toronto.  I always worry about Andre when anything like that is going on.  I hope the attendance is good.

Thank you Inge for a great report!  The photos were terrific! I don't know if I got one of him whistling but I may have.  Big Hugs

I do not remember Shirley how many encores but quite a few, even after the lullaby from Brahms where he drooped his bow falling asleep, he still gave in for the little Garde Officer and before that somebody pointed 5 encores with his fingers and André put his finger on his head and turned it, like are you nuts, haaaaaaaa but he played one more.

I just saw in the news that the demonstrators got in trouble with the police in Toronto, they started a fire, but I do not know what happened, it was suppose to be peaceful demos. I would not like to go around those security blockages.

Yes Inge I just have the news on now and they set a police car on fire.  Don't know what else is happening.  Are they close to the Air Canada Center?

Haaaaaaa, Shirley I meant dropped , not drooped, a typing mistake that slipped in.
Jeanine Ann I am not sure how close that Air Canada Center is, they mentioned a few centers close buy, but I did not know where André has his concert, I thought it was in the Rodgers center. I am sure he is o.k. but the fans might have some trouble getting in and out???

Inge, I am laughing as I read your report. What a concert you had. I like it when Andre steps out of his normal mode and gets real. Those are his best moments I think.

Little did he know he had a "mini" superstar in his audience!

I just read about the cancellation in Toronto. I feel sorry for the fans who have to wait until December, but it is saver. I also thought of André and his JSO. Last night Sanne disappeared after the first piece, she must have been sick, Frank had a red nose, also a little under the weather, André joked about his health that he was not sick one day, also his Orchestra, he looked around and saw the empty chair from Sanne, he looked also a little tired. Toronto is 7OO km from Montréal, they must have driven all night after the concert to be there and for nothing. But at least they have a rest. Hope that is a consolation for the fans that miss the concert.
