Illness

For entrepreneurs, illness is really not an option.
Many times I have stood on stage with a fever, flu or runny nose.

But this time it's serious.  An imbalance for me felled me for several weeks with the result that I had to cancel a concert in the Netherlands and a world tour for the first time in 32 years!

If I had not been sick I would not have been aware of these decisions. . .
A high work ethic, loyalty to your customers, the inability to transfer
of your work, these are all reasons why operators are sick little.
The financial interests play an important role. You insure against illness which is expensive, especially for a small business and so you go as long as possible so as not to compromise your income.

Now we are well insured against the cancellation of concerts, but it brings equally high costs, thus only a portion of this damage is recoverable,  the rest is your own.

We also make a lot of marketing costs to communicate that concerts have been canceled and the announcement of the new data. On site
costs are often made. Thus, in the Arena the grass is already covered.  If that Lasts one week or longer then the slab should be replaced and that will cost soon a ton.(?)

Then there are the suppliers that are committed.
Often the companies and freelancers we work with that long say
no charge. "It will come back one time", they say.
I find that heartening.  Like the responses I get from the public (audience?) wishing me a speedy recovery and that really helped with my recovery.

During my illness, I discovered that this period had a positive side.
I slept more, took walks and only occasionally would visit the studio. This wake-up call I needed to realize that the past years I have been too busy. My body really hit me hard and I had to face the facts. The result is that the agenda again was shaken, we had to re-define the priorities and policies are tightened around the question: what do we do and what do we not do.  I'm afraid If the people who approach me for opening buildings or speak
at meetings increases in the future they will be disappointed.

By the time you read this, I hope to be back on the stage, but it is a shame that because of my absence our ultra low absenteeism of less than one percent will be boosted.   An important lesson is learned. Who in the right times says "no" to others, says "yes" to himself.  With this my last column I hope you will have something to take away from that.
