"I've learned my lesson"

Andre Rieu is back.  "The World of Andre Rieu" docusoap

We follow the 61-year-old violinist during his tour of Mexico City to Orlando.  'Totaal TV',  Andre and his 120-man entourage in Mexico City.

In dead silence corsets (or dresses) are straightened, makeup touched up and violins are tuned.  Only the shiny shoes of Andre Rieu himself, pacing the stone floor, can be heard.  It is an unwritten rule: right before the decisive moment everyone keeps his mouth quiet and the maestro is not disturbed.  Even the camera crew who will be with him the next week closely following for the docusoap "The World of Andre Rieu", remains aloof.

Fighting spirit and Shouting

Tonight the second concert in the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. One down, three to go.  Then the King of the Waltz and his retinue of 120 people, including self-catering, security and doctor, a private jet travel to LA.  It's almost inconceivable that the 61-year-old violinist was recently ill with a viral infection in his labyrinth.  Andre: "A terrible period.  All I could do is lie down and be quiet to heal.  With patience, love and crazy visits with my grandchildren I was slowly improving. "The violin was taken out of his suitcase, the orchestra again rallied and so they waltzed merrily along ... But deliberately at a slower tempo.  Andre: "I take more rest, I am more focused and more broadly based.  This takes getting used to, but it should, I'm not 18 anymore.  This never happens to me! ” I am so happy that I can do what I like: making people happy with classical music. "

Stradivarius

After a crushing kick-off in Belgium Rieu got the whole ensemble on the plane to bustling Mexico City.  Andre: "The tickets were sold out in no time.  Four times the Auditorio Nacional, which are forty thousand tickets.  Fantastic, right?  "Part of it is dressing in elegant evening clothes in the hall to wait until he makes his entrance.  Another part is trying, just before the entrance to the colossal building,  to sell illegal Rieu merchandise, ranging from coffee mugs and T-shirts to key chains and DVDs.  Without a doubt, must-haves for young and old.  The buzz in the room increases, while the backstage is still silent.  Andre's violin, his Stradivarius of 1667 with a street value of several million dollars, is where it belongs: firmly clamped in the left hand of its master, ready for a great performance.  The case in which this piece of musical perfection worldwide travels, is already neatly ironed with blanket and ready.  Just as its personal bodyguard all day keeps a close eye.

Afterwards

Father and son share a last quick look of understanding.  Pierre, Andre's right hand for ten years again rushes to the hall quickly as possible to not only taste the live atmosphere,  but also on the way to relax.  And you have it:  the wings are opened, the spotlights look for the shiny shoes, the audience applauding.  More intense and vivid than yesterday, as Rieu will say later.  "I still do not know exactly what it is,  but a note, a scream,  immediately the night is turned into a party.  Tonight was such a night.” Chic, very chic! "

Hi Shirley! What is it with you and Andre and shiny shows! Are shiny shoes
a fetish of yours or only those belonging to Andre? Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, it's Andre's black shiny shoes that I refer to, but actually it's
me being naughty to Jeanine Ann. It's only in fun that I tease her about it.
She knows what I mean, it's only a joke between us.
Truthfully, I did used to have a shoe fetish in my younger working days.
Each paycheck would find me buying a new pair of high heels. I still like looking for shoes
but these days it's for comfort, not glamour.
And, back to Andre, when he wears his "back shinys" I know he's in concert mode. Bring on the music!
