New Waltz Composed for Andre Rieu

Anthony Hopkins Composes New Waltz For Andre Rieu

Sir Anthony Hopkins in the studio
Mon 11 Apr 2011

Now that's a composer you wouldn't expect in our studio, would you? Sir Anthony Hopkins is not only one of the world's leading actors, he is also a great musician. He composed a magnificent waltz, especially for André and the Johann Strauss Orchestra. This morning, he came to Maastricht personally to hear us perform his music.

We were all inspired by Sir Hopkins' beautiful music and his warm personality and humour. We are sure you will like the new waltz too: it will be played on the Maastricht concerts, and as a track on André's next cd!

    well I never knew Anthony Hopkins was also a composer of music! I've loved his acting abilities, in fact just last week we watched a movie of his we'd never heard of before, he & Alec Baldwin in The Edge. This will be a real treat to hear the waltz he's written for Andre to play.

    I was interested to see Anthony Hopkins with Andre, having written a waltz for him to perform in Maastricht in July.I seem to remember reading that Anthony Hopkins was going to be a concert pianist when he was young.I don't think I have dreamt that.He has been one of my favourite actors since I saw him in the BBC's War and Peace back in the 1970's.He played the part of Pierre Bezuhof and it was abrilliant series.I was lucky enough to find the complete set of videos at a car boot
    sale 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed watching it all again.One of the best things the BBC have ever done.Does anyone else remember it?
    I was also .lucky enough to see him on stage here in Leicester (at our Haymarket Theatre - sadly now closed)

      Hi dear Margaret, I read every comment on the blog.  If I get too busy I cannot always answer but I do see them.  Thank you for your comment - Andre has given you so much to look forward to, I am just the vehicle who brings him to you here (and Sally and moderators).  He deserves all the credit for what he has brought to our lives and it is my pleasure to share whatever little I can or as much as I can.  I hope you have a beautiful time at the concert as I know you will.  We look forward to hearing all about it from you and the others.  Big hugs

    I was not aware that Our Beautiful Man had been knighted by His Queen, He surely deserves it, I believe He has put so much into so many lives, we will never know how many, I think the numbers would be well off the richter scale ha ha;

    Please could someone tell me if Andre is entitled to put Sir, or whatever they are called in the Netherlands, before his name, as the British Knights are, or does he just get presented with a medal? Perhaps he is too modest to call himself "Sir" Andre? whatever -- he deserves all the titles and medals available throughout the world!

    Hello Bev,
    I am pretty sure that men have to be British citizens to be knighted by the Queen and made a "Sir".Therefore Andre would not qualify for that honour.I know he has many honours in Holland and France.
