Ruth’s Report on the MEN Concert. Manchester 21. April. 2011

Dear All, we set off from Colne at 4.00pm UK time so we could go for a meal before the concert. On the way back to the MEN there were hundreds of people seeming to be heading to the MEN, although we had arranged to meet Bob and Jean from Canada, it was like looking for the needle in the haystack!!!.

We joined the queue and decided June and I would link up, it was decided that we would meet the chaps in the car park at the end. We got into our seats about 8.40pm, then at 8.00pm people at the back of us started clapping and standing as Andre and the JSO came from the back I just about saw Andre in the flesh!!!! going past!! They walked down to Seventy-Six Trombones. Then they played the following:- Voices of Spring. Blaze Away. The Skaters Waltz, with some of the orchestra clowning around. La Danza. I think it was at this point that they put a phone of Andre’s grandbabies everyone oh’ed and ah’ed. Your Whole Heart Is Mine. Ole Guapa. Ben, Heal The World, The Snow Waltz, when the first few rows got covered in “snow” and their reaction showed on the big screen, we all roared with laughter when the snow fell all at once, even Andre was laughing, more so when the people saw themselves on the big screen and Andre cracking jokes. They then played Ballad To Adeline and The Gypsy Princess. We also heard the Platin Tenors who were brilliant.  We had an interval of 20 minutes.

When Andre and the JSO returned there were quite a few stragglers which were put on the big screen, so funny when they found out they were being filmed and Andre whistling Colonel Bogey! The last 2 gents walking down were very funny, the smaller one frog marching a taller man down the aisle, before sitting down the smaller man saluted to Andre and he saluted back saying, with a smile on his face, "he must have been in the army".

The second half started with La Cygne with cello solo by Tanya. Torna Surriento.  I’m Off To Chez Maxim with the girls and the Tenors.  Vienna Blood. Viljo Song with Kimmy, talk about goosebobs!  She got a standing ovation.  Hava Nagila where Andre introduced Manoe, who he mentioned had recovered from breast cancer, also got a standing ovation.  Then Mirusia sang Memories, was surprised she did not get the same ovation!

The next on the list was The Blue Danube inviting us to dance.  As there were only a few dancing near us got up, June mentioned we could waltz to the front with my flower to Andre from Lillie. Waltzing through the people nearer the front we managed to get to near the centre of the stage just as they finished playing, I was waving the flower to attract Andre’s attention, he saw and came to collect the flower, bending down He SMILED at me and said  “Thank you”.  I could not believe I would do it !!!!!!!!  What a feeling, and glad I did it was worth that smile. We went back to our seats just in time for the start of Hallelujah.  Most of the arena standing, a lot of people asking for more, so we got more from Our Wonderful Man.

Can’t remember what else he played, like Deidre I was on cloud 9. But I do remember Andre waving his hand as to say time for home, but he carried on playing “ No Place Like Home” and still we wanted more poor man, in the end Andre played” We’ll Meet Again”, I would think there were not many dry eyes in the house!  Then it was over, but what a great night,  and I got a balloon for Lillie.
Amazing, My Dream Come True. Very HAPPY!!!!

Luv Ruth

Hi Ruth and the rest of you good or not so good ladies.
Ruth you forgot to say that we did meet briefly
but you looked like a lady in love (I thought that it was my lucky day then I woke up and realised it was not for me.)Your report is very graphic and pleasant reading I thought that I was back at the concert.
Wished we had got together on this one and you could have added my photographs to it.My report that I sent to Jeanine Ann reads as if a 5 year old had written it,but hopefully the photographs will make up for my reporting skills.
Love and Hugs to All bob

Just a comment on your comment about Mirusia. Anyone who has been to many Andre concerts has heard Mirusia sing Memories many times. Kimi is new blood although she sang a song they have used in concerts before. I am sure that those fans who have not been to many concerts had an unbelievable time. The first time is magical. Not everyone feels the way I do, but the soloists need some new material. I hope he will make some changes before November. Mirusia has sung the same songs that Suzan used to sing. I think that the Maastricht concerts are special and other than this year, I will go to those. They have a lot of new material. And Maastricht is beautiful. My current plan is to go to Maastricht for a few days and then somewhere else for a few days but unfortunately not this year. Looking at the program you provided, there was nothing that we haven't seen before. Some people don't care, but I do. I don't want to see the soloists do the same thing over and over. Tanya plays The Swan absolutely exquisitely. One report said, Tanya played "her song." I am sure she knows more than one song. If this sounds that I don't like Andre and JSO nothing could be further from the truth. But, other than Maastricht, it's been a long time since we've been given anything new so unless it's a special, may save my money for Maastricht in the future. I have tickets for Manchester, NH for November. Maybe by then there will be some new material.I have lost count of how many concerts I have been to. I think it's 23.

Hello dear Margaret, I so enjoyed your concert report.  I don't often get to say so right away but I am so happy for you because I know what that first concert means to you.  Seeing Andre the first time live is almost indescribable and I know it means many more concerts to come.  Love and hugs

Dear Ruth you made a super report, just like Elizabeth and I understand your enthusiasm, as you have seen him for the first time, but I have to agree with Virginia Baker, it is time he brings something new. Je calls himself the JSO , Strauß and his brothers and his father have written much more than he plays. I have also tickets for Montréal Nov.23 but I am sure the old stuff comes again.

Still do not let this rain on your parade, the first time everything is super!
