Rieu May conduct his Vrijthof concerts end of June

Andre Rieu wants to conduct his Vrijthof concerts during the last two weekends of June this year. Rieu has presented his proposal to the Maastricht city council, who will review the possibility of changing the concerts dates.

Previous years the conductor and his orchestra held the popular concerts in July. This summer he wants to change the dates because of his concert tour in Brazil. Rieu performs in Sao Paulo from May 29 to June 10. Because of the enormous success of the ticket sales, Rieu would like to return to South America a month later, according to resources. Rieu, according to well-established sources in Maastricht, wants to conduct his concerts during the weekend of 22 to 24 June. If the ticket sales are successful, he also wants to add the weekend of June 29 to July 1. Once again, the concert on June 22 and again on July 1 may clash with one of the Dutch football team’s matches. These dates are respectively during the quarterfinals and the final of the European Soccer Championship. In 2010, Rieu’s concerts also clashed with the World Cup final, which then too led to a discussion with the city council. The city council wants to make sure that the shift would not create too many problems before they give their approval.
