André, Carla, Carmen - BRAZIL & World War 2

André & the JSO are scheduled for 12 concerts in 13 days, a daunting & grueling task that is going to require a lot of energy over a really long time.

I’m of the opinion that Carla & Carmen, both brazilian born, have something to do with the demand for concert tickets.  You KNOW whatever they sing will be greeted with a wildly enthusiastic standing ovation & I’m sure they will enjoy a special moment in performing in their home country.

The 12 concerts in BRAZIL should help AR Productions to return to a strong & healthy financial position for 2 very good reason:

  • A lot of tickets will be sold - 11,000 seats per concert
  • There isn’t the cost/expense of elaborate sets (Schönbrunn)

It will be interesting to see how André’s DVDs & CDs sell.  Will they become as popular & sell as well as they did in Australia?  Let’s HOPE so.  At some point we should start seeing some articles/statistics on which DVDs/CDs are the best selling on sales charts.

Surely, Carla & Carmen will accompany André on pre concert promotions

Don’t you know André is scratching his head & wondering WHY he decided against performing in BRAZIL in 2010?.  The Brazilian people have been patient & I’m sure the extra 2 years wait will be rewarded in the hearts & minds of those that are lucky enough to get a ticket to the 2012 concerts.

Considering the demand for more concert dates in BRAZIL, it's puzzling that André is limiting himself to just one city São Paulo.  WHY not spread himself & his concerts into other Brazilian cities?

Concerts will be performed inside Ginásio do Ibirapuera, that has a seating capacity of 11,000; photos of the venue HERE.

HEADS UP, PIERRE RIEU - WW2 military equipment in BRAZIL:

We all know about your interest & collection of WW2 military equipment & vehicles,  IF you have time you’ll find BRAZIL to be a treasure trove of those old WW!! relics.

If you are Brazilian & know of any stored WW2 equipment & want to get rid of it, I’m sure Pierre will be interested in taking it off your hands.

André’s DVD, Welcome to my World, part 4; Pierre Rieu takes you on a tour of his WW2 museum/collection which you can see is quite extensive

BRAZIL strategic geographical location was critical to the Allies war effort because of their natural resource - RUBBER.

in 1942 the lesser known theatre of war was the South Atlantic; while lesser known it was one of the most deadly, because of german submarines & the relatively narrow area between Brazil’s eastern bulge & South Africa.

The Graf Spee, battleship, overshadowed all other ships, patrolled the South Atlantic sinking everything it spotted along allies shipping lines.  No merchant ship was safe with the Graf Spee on the loose.  In addition to the Graf Spee, & U boats, there were the German Raiders, warships disguised as innocent looking merchant ships, showing their true colors just before the kill.  Raider #16 sank 20 ships before being discovered & sunk.

Once the allies gained air superiority over the south atlantic, slow patrol seaplanes based at the bulge of BRAZIL; turned this into a killing field & more U boats were eventually sunk in the waters between BRAZIL & Africa than in any other theatre of war.

In August 1942, BRAZIL eventually came into the war on the allies side.  Thanks to a cooperative agreement, the U.S. shipped tire making equipment to BRAZIL, trained the brazilians to operate the equipment which assured the U.S. of a vital supply of rubber tires needed to move men & material.  BRAZIL prospered from all the U.S. dollars being spent by GI’s & being paid to brazilian workers + the navies of BRAZIL & the U.S.joined forces, worked side by side which transformed into one splendid co operative effort.

500 tanks transported safely through the shipping lanes from BRAZIL arrived just in time  to turn the tide of battle at el Alamein.

All kinds of jeeps, troop trucks, armored personnel carriers, shod with BRAZILIAN rubber tires were transported into the european theatre of operations as the allies moved through South Africa & then toward Berlin.

After the war, thousands of U.S. vehicles were abandoned or sold.  I’m quite certain Pierre will find a lot of military equipment, principally in and around  Natal, João Pessoa, Recife, Maceió, .

Victory At Sea, Vol 2; Beneath the Southern Cross, is 1 a hour documentary in black & white that does a much better job than I at showing & explaining BRAZIL’s vital contribution to the WW2 effort.

Interesting article Bill. Haven't heard a peep about Carmen for months. Am always interested in war history. Pop had a pretty good library of WWI & II non-fiction books and I still have some of them. Sounds like Andre is trying to
really upset Maastricht concert fans by moving those July concerts into late June. Rescheduling would be a nightmare
with the soccer match conflicts. Think he's attempting "A Bridge Too Far". Rio concerts should be planned later. Should
hear something possibly today on that subject.

I agree with your analogy of A Bridge Too Far in terms of Maastricht concert dates.

IF this years concert dates are changed it will set a BAD precedence & those that make plans a year ahead of time will never know with any certainty IF they're going to have to re schedule.   It's not just this years concert dates, it's all of the following years concert dates & the ensuing uncertainty

Netflix had a good thing going until they doubled their prices.  André has a good thing going, until he tosses in an mix of uncertainty on Maastricht concert dates.  I would think a good ole fashion dose of reason would dictate, that all concert dates revolve around Maastricht date that remain FIXED & CERTAIN.

Coca Cola had a good thing going until they change their recipe.  After shooting themselves in the foot, they fully realized their mistake, went back to Classic, but by then the damage had already been done.

Hopefully, André will do the right thing & withdraw his request instead of forcing the City Council to make a decision.

Look through your stuff & see if you can find the old Victory at Sea black & white DVD set.

Volume 2,  Beneath the Southern Cross, is the story of Brazil & the South Atlantic theatre of war, which is very interesting.

Pierre , should find some old military WW2 equipment while in Brazil, if he LOOKS.

    Hi Bill,
Thanks for the e-mail and the heads up.This is a situation where the proverb
"If it aint broke dont fix it"comes into play,Andre needs to be CAREFUL this could cost him many of his audience and his public. For some or other reason I feel that he is chasing money, and that is also not a good thing. 12 concerts in 13 days non stop, this could break his musicians, after all they are human, it is not easy doing a three hour concert
for 12 days without a day or two break in between, 3 or 4 concerts then a break should be ok If I could give Andre some good advice it would be dont push the envelope.

Make your thoughts & concerns known to the Mayor of Maastricht who, along with the City Council, will be making a decision on André's concert dates.  Express your thoughts to one of the people that will be making the decision.

    Dear Bill,

BRAZIL=CARLA=CARMEN! That figures. No wonder André is playing 12 concerts. These two girls were always special for André and now they will be singing with him once again! All those war relics will surely fascinate Pierre as well! Thank you for this lovely article! Deirdré (South Africa)

Thanks for your article, Bill, and thanks for the comments from other people. People are not race horses, but running them too hard will eventually break them down to where they are zombies while playing their beautiful music without any emotion. Perhaps staying in Brazil for one whole month and taking 3 or 4 breaks during this time is a better way to handle the difficult schedule. I had forgotten how much Brazil contributed to the war effort for the USA. Thanks for the reminder. Hopefully, something will move Andre away from messing with the schedule for Maastricht in July. Nevertheless Bill, again thanks for your efforts in keeping everyone informed.

Congratulations Bill, excellent article! My uncle was an avid wealth of information/knowledge on WWII. All three of my uncles served and decorated for all their efforts serving Our Country. I have passed your very moving article to my last surviving Aunt of a Proud Military Man and she has been moved to tears as she recalls so many stories my Uncle shared with her; said it seams like yesterday. We both go to the VFW which my Uncle belonged to, as she has shared many photo's from the War and we do volunteer work there. I am very sure the remaining men at this Post will be very touched by your "SUPERB" article. My personal two cents:
    Bill's Article takes 'FIRST PLACE'.

Thanks for bringing level-headed-thinking into the situation brewing in Maastricht and the City Council. See 'WE' do need you MEN on this BLOG! Now don't get mad girls/ladies, females seem to think from their hearts filled with TRUVIA, while our men think with their heads and lots of common sense. I feel lots of pots and pans being hurled my way - but on this subject, Joel Grey summed up a certain time in history, remember: Money, money, money money, money makes the world-go-round $$$$$$$
PLEASE, I ENJOY THE MAESTRO'S MUSIC AND
CONCERTS AND ALL THE GREAT PHOTOS, DVD/CD/BOOKS/VIDEOS OF ANDRE- ANDRE BROUGHT ME THROUGH MANY A HORRIBLE TIME IN MY LIFE - BUT HAVE 'WE' PUSHED HIM TO A LEVEL EVEN HE CAN NOT SEEM TO HANDLE AT THIS TIME IN HISTORY?? (these comments came from my 'heart)

Hi Judith, I love you dearly but cannot agree on this one.  Firstly, Andre wanted to change the concert dates for Maastricht this year, not forever.  Maybe he did want to go back to Brazil in July.  He only had one city and that was Sao Paulo.  He had twelve concerts sold in one city, think of what he could do with all of Brazil!  They have waited two years to see him.  I don't know what his plans were/are for Brazil but they have a right to see him also.  Maybe money does make the world go around but not Andre's world.  He is not in this for the money.  Sure he must make some money and he must make a lot of money.  In an upcoming article which I am getting ready to post Andre tells us that he must make 825,000 euros per month to pay bills before he can make a profit.  So money is important as far as getting the bills paid for an organization of 120 people.  Andre is happy when his DVD/CD's sell but not just for the money, it is because he has connected enough with the people who buy these DVD's, etc.  That is what he wants, to connect heart to heart with his fans.  All he wanted to do was possibly change the Maastricht concerts to another month and panic sets in and fans think he is giving up his home town for other fans who have been waiting a long time to see him.  He was not saying I am not coming to Maastricht this year because I need to be in Brazil, this was a one time thing.  Maybe we ladies do think from our hearts but that is because Andre plays from his heart, he talks from his heart and loves from his heart.  We also use our common sense or we would not make plans to see him every year or every time he comes to our hometowns.  We would not make plans to travel from long distances to see him in his hometown.  That takes a lot of planning and a lot of common sense.  We ladies are not just adoring females who cannot think.  We think as Andre has taught us to think, as he thinks, with our hearts.  We know in our hearts that Andre is not in this for the money over and above that which he needs to pay his hard working JSO to travel with him all over the world.  Love you Judith but you better duck, I am not the only lady on the blog.  Hugs
