Andre Rieu de Mens achter het Fenomeen Synopsis

De Showmaster (The Show Master)

(Page 43)
André is a pure show master. On stage he plays with the audience. He jokes, challenges and at times plays the fool. For Govert de Roos it is an absolute feast to observe André. He is so photogenic. His mime and movements. Almost every photo is different. The photo of André and James Bhemgee is unique. He won the South African talent show, South Africa’s Got Talent. This may look like nothing special.Until you realize that this singer until recently was a tramp who lived on the street and sang for the people passing by. Everything changed after he won the talent show. He has a fantastic voice. For him the African Dream came true.

(Page 44)
Every concert touches you. Govert De Roos said that he felt ‘empty’ after a series of concerts. A longing after the circus. The basic ingredients of each concert are the same. The country and character of the people determine the rest. The more enthusiastic the audience, the more the orchestra performs. When the audience seems to be lukewarm André will go full out to encourage them to participate. Most of the time the audience is touched and tears will flow freely.

(Page 45)
As photographer, even Govert De Roos feels the same. Both his parents passed away. But when he closes his eyes he can imagine his mother sitting in front of the TV, enjoying the tenor Richard Tauber, singing Dein ist mein ganzes Herz. This song is played on numerous occasions during concerts. But ... in Vienna Govert De Roos was so touched, he had to lower his camera for a while.

(Page 48)
André’s concerts are truly four-dimensional. During the winter waltz Schneewalzer the audience is covered with ‘snow’. Most of the time the audience knows that they are going to be covered by a huge barrel of snow, but it is still funny when it happens. With here and there terrified, or just relieved, faces.

(Page 52)
The impact on the public differs from country to country. But it is always a feast. The audience in Mexico danced everywhere. Even at the emergency exits. Nobody stood still. When looking at the photos, Govert De Roos enjoys each one of them. The joy in the eyes, the love on the faces and the crazy public. The music is so beautiful.

(Page 61)
Govert De Roos photographed many different concerts in his life. Nothing can be compared to the massive concerts of André Rieu. The photo on this page brought back good memories.Govert was seated between the orchestra and even wore the same clothes as the members. He took the photo during a concert in Vienna. “What a view!” He could feel the adrenaline.Even the chandeliers are from Rieu. Again the detail.
